Hi Toast! Everyone's welcome here and you sound super cool! ^.^ ha thanks I swear I keep adding haha to everything so I don't sound intimidating and "lol" seems childish the constant struggle to express friendliness online without being cheesy It's hard to express genuine feelings through text so I get ya! xD I almost always put "haha" or "xD" after like every sentence lol

Also, can you guys keep my friend's niece in your prayers? She has a pretty serious UTI, and if it doesn't get better soon, her kidneys may fail. She's 12 and in a lot of pain.

Suspicious Toast : i only vaguely remember you being in the arguments. but welcome to the thread! we're all pretty much civil and friendly in debates, so i doubt you'll be disappointed in those expectations. you'd be surprised how much we actually disagree, we're just good at accepting it. tbh this thread is 50% chat so feel free to just come in and talk about your day if you're bored, or propose a topic/subject matter to discuss.
@jess: Praying <3
which reminds me, what do y'all think of the "safe space" concept?

which reminds me, what do y'all think of the "safe space" concept? okay *rubs hands together* this may like...sound offensive but I'm just being honest, I'm a really blunt person so like sorry xDDD but i think safe spaces are dumb like people choose to be offended by something. If you really want to not be "triggered" then choose to not be. Like it may not be easy but you are the one that chooses to be happy or mad or whatever. Something may make you mad but you can always push that emotion away. It's not easy but just because someone doesn't like a differing opinion, doesn't mean we need to segregate them. And I honestly don't know how people are so triggered all the time. Like I can understand if someone was like...from the army and had actual ptsd and gets triggered by loud noises, but to say "I'm triggered" over someone saying that they have a different opinion than you is ridiculous to me I don't think safe spaces are going to solve any problems. It's going to make people soft with no backbone. The real world has opinions you don't like. There are no safe spaces in the real world. People need to learn to let it go and move on with their lives, you know? anyway that's my word dump

i'll be praying jess!!
and on safe spaces, well, they piss me off because of what people think they're supposed to be used for. the idiots who've made them into this thing where they can crawl too when they get butthurt and offended by stuff that you just have to deal with in the real world are ruining it for the people who NEED safe spaces. they were originally designed for people like me, with anxiety disorders or other mental health problems that could warrant going to a place of seclusion, to cool off or come back to reality. i've had to use one before, and it's kinda just a plain jane room where you can sit and get your wits back about you if you dissociated or are in the midsts of a panic attack they were NOT designed for people who wanna go and stew cause they heard a mean opinion and have to cry about it.

i agree that they're done. even obama has come out and said the idea of them are stupid because expecting the whole world to never offend you is a ridiculous idea. your home is your safe space. expecting public locations to be is absurd.

ehhh i mean the ones that people use on college campuses ARE those rooms a lot of the time though and it makes me v upset ugh. but yeah, they are stupid like, in real life, in a work setting, or just out and about.

I have returned! ^-^
Could you play for my Spanish teacher's mom? She's apparently sick enough that my teacher has been gone the whole past school week looking after her. (No, I don't know what she has.)
Also, one of my other teacher's daughter just had a baby. The baby was 6 weeks early and she is on oxygen. Could you pray for her to have the strength to survive?

I won't give my full opinion on safe spaces here, in the interest of trying to be Christ-like. But I'd like to say that I have heard of certain colleges which are now providing actual physical "safe spaces" where students can go and cuddle with stuffed animals if someone makes them feel bad. I really wish I were making this up.

“God made us: invented us as a man invents an engine. A car is made to run on petrol, and it would not run properly on anything else. Now God designed the human machine to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on. There is no other. That is why it is just no good asking God to make us happy in our own way without bothering about religion. God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there.” ― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
John 4:13-14 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life.”

For the sake of disagreeing, it's easy to argue against anything, literally anything, with an extreme example of it.
I agree that having physical places where particular opinions are banned is ridiculous, but there is more to the notion of safe spaces that isn't being credited. I for one know that I've looked for groups of people or really just anyone to get close to and feel comfortable disclosing to them. Being able to get non-sugarcoated advice from a friend is incredibly valuable. But some people might not have the resources or available networks for such a thing. It's why being able to anonymously post things on the internet has attracted a lot of people.
There also seems to be an assumption that safe places are for LGBT+ or liberal people. But that's just another assumption that damages the positive values of 'safeplaces'.

But that's just another assumption that damages the positive values of 'safeplaces'. I get what you're saying, and I agree. Having a network, club, group, etc for a particular mindset or specific people is not a bad thing. Everyone enjoys validation, and camaraderie with like-minded friends is usually positive. However, constantly hiding oneself in the protection of a hive mind is not healthy-- we have to hear different arguments and opinions in order to have conviction. Also agree that assumptions are often made. Unfortunately, people so aligned as you have said often get the blame because they usually coin it with the phrase "safe space." Similar situations with other groups happen as well, but are usually hidden under the guise of something else.

okay advice time: i'm going to dinner to celebrate a friend's bday and then a sleepover, and idk what to order from the menu. i looked at it ahead of time on their website, and it's a high-quality italian place. we're doing separate checks so i don't have to worry about getting anything expensive. should i get the margarita pizza ($12), grilled branzino ($27), or atlantic salmon ($23)? the fish are a bit pricey but it's friday, so I can't have red meat, and since i'm spending my own money i don't mind getting something on the expensive side. i pretty much never spend money so it'd be nice to splurge a little.
