KESTRELKIT | The Nursery | Fawnsong, Foxkit
Kestrelkit mulled over her mother's words for a moment or two, but seemed to accept that explanation. Of course the leader was busy; if she was leader she'd probably forget things too! When Milkstar finally called Emberkit by her name, she quickly lost interest and turned back to her sibling. She was just glad Twistedfoot wasn't the same
As Foxkit started talking about the dangers of the forest, Kestrelkit's eyes grew wide with fear. Bears sounded horrible - and she thought badgers sounded bad! But she was going to be the fiercest warrior this clan had ever seen, she shouldn't be fearful of such creatures. Still, the image of a massive black shadow towering over her scared her no end - she was still just a kit, after all. But at the change of topic and prospect of fish she perked up. "I've never tasted fish before!" she squealed with excitement, her enthusiasm causing her to bounce slightly.

EAGLESTRIKE | The Forest | Fogpaw
As they padded towards the clearing, Eaglestrike planned out their training session in his head. He figured that he first should cover the basics of combat, and teach Fogpaw the standard battle moves, particularly those that smaller cats may find useful. Only once he had mastered them would he begin to put him in more realistic battle situations - though he would still go easy on him for now. He wanted to teach Fogpaw what a real battle was like, but not crush his confidence in the process.
He looked over at his apprentice at his question, not surprised that he would ask. A lot of younger cats had misconceptions about what a battle was really like. Even Eaglestrike himself had only been in a handful of proper fights and didn't know everything there was to know yet. "Unfortunately, enemy cats don't always fight fair. If we were to run into a rogue right now, they wouldn't refuse to fight you just because you're still an apprentice; in fact, they would use it to their advantage," he answered, thankful that the odds of that situation were very unlikely. Willowclan were lucky that there weren't any neighbouring clans around, so the most they ever really had to deal with was the odd rogue. Predators were a more likely danger.

The queen listened to her kits' conversation with a soft purr of amusement. "If a bear ever dared to come close to either of you, I'd claw it's ears off," the she-cat promised the two. Though she was a gentle, kind-hearted cat, the wrath of a mother was one of the most formidable forces of nature. Fawnsong leaned her head down to wash Kestrelkit, licking the kit behind the ears with thorough laps of her pink tongue as Kestrelkit excitedly mewed. She hoped that Twistedfoot would make good on his promise; it would make their day, especially little Kestrelkit who had wanted to explore with her brother and den-mates.

Fogpaw | Training grounds/Clearing | with Eaglestrike
Fogpaw's thoughts began to race as the two cats reached the clearing. He doesn't get to go out with his mentor too often due to Eaglestrike being a very busy warrior, therefore at times like this he can't help but get extremely excited. Fogpaw loved to learn, even if he was a little feather-brained and would lose track of things, but, it never stopped him from doing the things he loved- which was training to become one of the strongest warriors he could ever be.
Fogpaw's eyes widened at the thought of a rogue approaching the cats. It made his heart race, and he couldn't tell if it was from fear or adrenaline. "Rogue's can sure be nasty cats. It's a good thing we don't see many around here..." His voice trailed off as he began to think of all of Willowclan's known predators. "When we train, will you have to teach us how to go up against predators like bears?" He wondered how a cat could teach another how to fight something so big and wild, but Fogpaw suspected that a cat could never fight such a large beast alone.

"Well I don't want to play with some lazy old cat. They won't teach me how to be a real warrior," Featherkit retorted in a quiet voice, his tail lashing behind him with annoyance at Lionclaw. "And they wouldn't be able to play with us! They'd just want to sit around eating fish," he thought crossly. The tom turned back to his litter-mates and Wolfkit and shook his head, clearing his thoughts and perking up almost as fast as his mood has soured, "Okay! Wolfkit, you lead the way," Featherkit spoke with overflowing enthusiasm. He had been in charge of his little patrol for long enough, now he wanted to have his time to truly mess around.

Twistedfoot sat in his den staring at the ferns growing into the medicine cat den, reminiscing about his past and his missed opportunities, or well, what he could have been. Being born into the world with a deformity, the life of a warrior was always never something reachable, never an attainable goal or opportunity. It wasn't just something he could train enough for to work or something that could be mended, it was really just a set back every day of his life that he could never overcome. He had fought hard in the beginning of his days to be trained as warrior's apprentice, and to avoid being shoved into the medicine cat den with his mother just because he would never be good enough and never had a choice, but at his apprentice ceremony he was apprenticed to his mother, like everyone had expected him to be and every chance he thought he had was just fantasy.
Though Twistedfoot had never had the opportunity to become the warrior he had yearned to be, that didn't mean he couldn't be a cat and make his own choices that really were possible to him. "Fawnsong," the small tom thought to himself, "you and our kits are .. everything," he looked down at his paws and smiled, thinking about the little bundles in the nursery who were soon to overflow the den and become apprentices. They were growing up far too fast, and the reality was that soon he would have to be treating his own kin of their wounds. It was a thought pushed far into his mind, but sometimes he couldn't help but consider the fact. "They must already be awake and being a hassle for Fawnsong," he thought, but he meant it in the most affectionate way possible. Twistedfoot padded out into the clearing and looked towards the fresh kill pile hoping for a fresh fish lying about, and instead his eyes first found Wolfkit going around camp with Dappledblossom's kits, who all looked quite guilty about something, but they at least looked like they were having some fun. "Wolfkit's smart, he'll keep the craziness in line," he thought, chuckling as he picked up a large fish from the fresh kill pile and padded into the nursery den, intending to share some of it with Fawnsong as well.

Foxkit looked far too giddy and thrilled at the idea of her father coming to visit them again. He was no stranger to her or her litter-mates, and she really looked up to him for being a healer for his clan. By no means did Foxkit imagine herself caring for sick and bloody cats all day, but she could see just how skilled Twistedfoot was at his duties and she could respect that. "If Wolfkit isn't back soon he's going to miss out," the grey she-kit licked her lips at the thought of tasting the fish, and she didn't mind taking her brother's share of the kill. Only a few moments past by and she heard the familiar paw-steps of her father striding across camp and towards the nursery, the sound of something else that seemed to make a sound as he came towards them which was soon distinguished by its salty yet sweet smell that enveloped Foxkit in a dream. "Now aren't you glad you stayed here in the nursery?" Foxkit asked Kestrelkit as their father finally emerged into the den.

He pressed up against the larger tom, perhaps trying to appear bigger. He felt small, in the face of Lionclaw and whoever else out to make the kits feel uncomfortable. But Lionclaw had a reason. His and Featherkit's behavior wasn't acceptable. He wished he wasn't so easily swayed. He wished he'd stayed out of the mischief, standing to the side like Splashkit or simply not taking part. Of course, he would eventually regret all of his actions as a kit when he grows up and becomes older, wiser, smarter. He sighed in defeat. "Thank you for telling us the obvious," he called out as the warrior left. "We will keep that in mind. What did you want us to do, send you off to StarClan?"

EAGLESTRIKE | Forest Clearing | Fogpaw Eaglestrike nodded in agreement, his face serious. He of all cats should know just how dangerous rogues could be; only a short time ago, his own father had been killed battling one, the wounds the rogue had inflicted too great for any medicine cat to heal. Rogues tended to fight with no honour, and he hated them every day for it. A true warrior wouldn't kill another cat unless completely necessary, and he didn't understand how someone could bring themselves to injure another cat to the extent where their wounds were fatal. But he tried not to think about that, and pushed the thought to the back of his mind. Today, he was focused on his apprentice. "Of course. I want to be able to teach you not only how to fight cats that might be smaller than yourself, but also animals that might be much larger," Eaglestrike answered, his voice level and calm, "Though remember that you would never be expected to fight an animal as big as a bear on your own. That would require a group effort." Now that they had reached the clearing, Eaglestrike felt excited at the prospect of training, feeling some adrenaline already pumping through his body. Not only did training teach the apprentices how to fight, but it also kept their mentors' skills sharp. "Now, are you ready to start?"( ᴘᴏʟʏᴏɴʏᴍᴏᴜꜱ )
KESTRELKIT | The Nursery | Fawnsong, Foxkit, Twistedfoot "You're so brave!" Kestrelkit meowed wide-eyed to her mother, imagining the she-cat going up against a bear to protect her and her siblings. I have the best parents, she couldn't help but think, sending a big smile on her face. She closed her eyes, enjoying the feel of her mother tongue grooming her fur, but her eyes snapped open again at Foxkit's comment. "That just means more fish for us!" she exclaimed excitedly. Soon, a salty scent made its way into the nursery, accompanied by the more familiar scent of Twistedfoot. She had detected traces of this scent before, mainly on other cats after they had eaten, and it smelt heavenly. "Definitely!" Kestrelkit replied to her sister, whipping around when she heard her father enter the den. Letting out a squeal of excitement, both at the sight of her father and the treat he carried in his jaws, she scrambled to get out the nest, her fluffy tail standing straight up in the air in pure excitement. In fact, she was so excited that she tripped over her own paws as she tried to clamber out of the nest, resulting in her doing a clumsy forward roll out on to the ground. This didn't faze her, however, and she quickly got back to her feet, her small legs running over to her father. "Twistedfoot!" she squealed in delight, almost barreling straight into one of his legs. • Sparrowpelt • Elder • Camp •Cloudheart // ashfeather Sparrowpelt smiled in response as the tom's response. "Very well, thank you," He responded rather jovially for his usual sarcastic nature. "I'm coming back from seeing Dappleblossom's new kits. They're quite the bundle." He added on, stopping by the snow white cat and carefully positioning himself so that he wasn't facing the sun. "There is something about kits, don't you think? They just make everyone a little bit more hopeful." With that he glanced back briefly at the nursery den, and took a deep breath, feeling once more that pang of regret, that the clan was moving on without him. He flicked his ears thoughtfully, and erased the passing image from his mind. How selfish of him.
CLOUDHEART | Camp | Sparrowpelt
Cloudheart smiled at the mention of kits, knowing just the effect he was talking about. Their general positivity always seemed to be infectious, and while they could get in trouble from time to time, you could tell that they always meant well. In fact, he thought that he had seen some of Dappleblossom's litter exploring the camp just before, and their determined and excited faces had brought a smile to his own. "I know exactly what you mean," he replied to Sparrowpelt, "Though I don't think Lionclaw would agree with you. I just saw a number of the kits 'attack' him just before. He didn't seem amused," he added, eyes glittering with silent laughter. Out of all the cats in camp, he found it entertaining that the kits had chosen one of the grumpiest as their target - though he didn't envy them having to listen to the short lecture after.

Fawnsong purred in response to her kit's adulation, gently tickling the kit with her nose as she washed her, her soft amber eyes on Foxkit. Though Kestrelkit wasn't her kit by blood, the queen still considered the young cat her own, and she knew that the kit saw her as her own mother as well. A sense of motherly proud welled up within her at the thought of the great cats her kits would grow up to be, and she hoped that she could be there for all of them, every step of the way.
Twistedfoot's entrance caused her to lift her head, and she rose to her paws as Kestrelkit tumbled towards him in excitement. Her tail twitched in greeting, and the tabby she-cat quickly strode across the nursery in short steps, pressing her nose to Twistedfoot's muzzle as their kits excitedly chirped below them.

Momentarily shocked at being put in charge by the rambunctious kit, Wolfkit simply stared at Featherkit for a moment. Despite his internal surprise, his face conveyed an expression of indifference. Wolfkit's unfortunate disconnect from his heart and his outward demeanor caused him to seem much cooler than he actually was, and the tabby quickly glanced away in embarrassment. I don't know what we should do! the kit wailed inside, though he surveyed the camp with sharp blue-green eyes. He noticed his father disappearing into the nursery and looked after him, his tailtip twitching. Wolfkit wanted to bound after him and greet him, but he glanced back at his patrol with uncertainty. He didn't want to leave the rest of them hanging and disappointed.

» OOC || Morticat I think I replied on page 15. monarch can you please reply with Snookpaw? She's frozen with Brightfall at the Elm Stream. For the plot, I'm still deciding who's going to die. I originally wanted Galekit to live but end up with some kind of disability due to injuries (I kinda played around with the idea of him being deaf from birth (white cat with blue eyes thing)) and getting caught in the flames and living but that was scrapped for unknown reasons.) I can see either Darkshadow or Brightfall kicking the bucket during the fire. I still want them to live though because I enjoyed playing around with their personalities. But I'm not sure if I want to make more (expendable) characters with detailed personalities... It's rather conflicting, but I'm sure one of my characters will die, and none of them will get away with no burns. ||» GALEKIT | CAMP | FEATHERKIT, SPLASHKIT, WOLFKIT˜*•. ˜”*°•.˜”*°••°*”˜.•°*”˜ ˜”*°•.˜”*°••°*”˜.•°*”˜ .•*˜˜*•. ˜”*°•.˜”*°••°*”˜.•°*”˜Galekit drew back in an exaggerated sweeping motion, leaving Wolfkit in the lead. He personally didn't mind that Featherkit asked the tabby kit to lead; he was glad the one in charge had more sense. He did see what happened when Featherkit jumped at Lionclaw and he followed suit, effectively irritating the warrior. He had a right to be angry. Maybe Wolfkit's adventure would keep the kits out of trouble. His small frame quivered, still stung by Lionclaw despite appearing as stoic as he could. He didn't like the negative attention. Even if Milkstar didn't want to visit him and his littermates, he had better things to do than annoy all the warriors in camp. That would only bring the whole place around his ears. "Lead on, Wolfkit!" The kit cheered flatly, a poor attempt at trying to appear merry. He was excited of course, but he seemed to have a talent for hiding since he was born. "Where are you leading us?" He pressed on.

Fogpaw | Training grounds/Clearing | with Eaglestrike
As the two cats wandered into the clearing, Eaglestrike's words echoed through Fogpaw's mind. He couldn't help but wonder what big predators the warrior's have faught off before; it was hard to imagine cats against a bear- but it could be done. The young tom began to feel excited as they finally reached the training grounds and he'd finally get to learn some battle skills. He knew that his size was his main advantage, but he wanted to be more than just a big cat, he wanted to have something that would make him an amazing warrior. Luckily, battle training was a good start.
"I'm ready, what are we going to start with?" His ears flicked as he got into a battle stance; he lowered the front of his body while his haunches were raised. His tail and hips wiggled back and forth as he was already prepared to leap at his mentor.

As his mate came towards him, the tom dropped the fish to affectionately press his muzzle to hers. "I hope you haven't been too lonely in here," Twistedfoot looked at her with a bit of concern; usual for a tom who had to deal with other duties while their beloved mate stayed back with the kits. He looked down at his daughters and immediately his heart swelled with an incredible amount of love. "Look at you two!" He exclaimed, gently swiping at Kestrelkit's ear as a playful gesture, "I'm gone for one dawn and you've grown," he shakes his head smiling. Though Kestrelkit wasn't biologically his, in every other way she was entirely their own pride and joy, their own kit to see grow and make mistakes and biology couldn't change a thing about how he felt about his daughter. Every moment he spent with their kits in their period of innocence was the most fulfilling and heartwarming experience of his life. They were still incredibly small and growing into their big personalities, and learning how to navigate clan-life. The fish he brought in was just one small way of his part in getting them accustomed to the life of a warrior.
"It's too bad Wolfkit isn't here," he frowned, glancing back over at the patrol of tiny kittens pouncing around camp. Turning back to the rest of his kits and his mate, he was overcome with the feeling of anticipation and excitement. "Well have a try!" he motioned towards the fish, sitting down and leaning against Fawnsong as he spoke. The she-cat's warmth spread like embers across his body and reminded him of just how much he owned to her for his happiness.

The fluffy grey kit bounced across the den past her mother and ducked in and around Twistedfoot's front legs happily before coming face to face with the fish. "Wow," she murmured with a gaped mouth, "I didn't know fish were this big," Foxkit exclaimed, looking at Kestrelkit to find out her own reaction. Rather than the scent hanging in the air unpleasantly, it felt as though it danced across her nose with different flavors of the lake and scents she had smelled among her mother's fur. It was salty and musky, but the sweetness that radiated was what invited her in. Unsure of how to tackle such a thing, she looked at Fawnsong with confusion, "Do we just bite into it?" she asked.

EAGLESTRIKE | Forest Clearing | Fogpaw
Eaglestrike's whiskers twitched in amusement at his apprentice's stance, reminding him somewhat of the way in which kits play fight. He knew his apprentice was only doing it out of excitement, however, and his mentor knew that meant he was ready to work hard. "Well, I don't believe you'll be able to do much from that position," Eaglestrike pointed out, though there was a warmth to his tone that showed he wasn't at all mocking his apprentice. "I want us to start with the basics. I know you probably already know some basic battle moves just from having observed others, but it's important to know that a battle starts even before you make your first move," he paused for a second, wanting his words to sink in before he continued, "You want to be able to gauge your opponent before you attack. What are their strengths? What are their weaknesses? But perhaps most importantly, what are your own strengths? And, of course, what are your own weaknesses?"
Eaglestrike delivered all this in his normal calm and serious tone, knowing that half the battle could be decided just on whether or not one was able to size up their opponent correctly. Underestimating an enemy could have disastrous consequences, but overestimating your own skills was just as bad. He looked expectantly at Fogpaw when he had finished, prompting him to answer his last questions: what did he think were his strengths and weaknesses?

KESTRELKIT | The Nursery | Fawnsong, Twistedfoot, Foxkit
"She wasn't lonely; she had us!" Kestrelkit squeaked, still bouncing with excitement. She let out a laugh as her father swiped at her ear, letting out a playful growl in retaliation, raising one paw in the air in what was meant to be a menacing gesture, but just came off as a cute attempt at intimidation. "Soon I'll be as big and strong as you!" she exclaimed, giving up on her weak attempt of a playful threat and flashing him a massive grin instead. She knew that technically Fawnsong and Twistedfoot weren't her parents, in a biological sense at least, but she loved them and adored them as if they were - and at the end of the day, that was all that matter.
She finally turned her attention to the fish at her father's prompting, circling the prey once before coming to a stop by its side. She prodded one of her paws into its side, surprised to find that it was softer than she thought it would be. Its scent was beginning to overwhelm her senses now, and she felt her stomach growling in response. It was truly intoxicating. She looked up at her sister with wide-eyed excitement, meeting her gaze, "I didn't know either! It's as big as me!" in actual fact, the fish was a lot larger than her; Kestrelkit just liked to think she was bigger (and stronger) than she actually was. Just as unsure about how to go about eating it as Foxkit, but not having a lot of patience to find out, she crouched down and went for it: she sank her teeth into its side and ripped a small piece of meat from its body, stumbling back slightly at the momentum of pulling back. Her mouth was instantly flooded by a salty, yet sweet taste that perfectly matched the intoxicating scent it was giving off.

Sparrowpelt swivelled his head, craning his neck to see if you could spot the kits and the unlucky cat. However, from their point of view, little could be seen past roots and bramble. He shook his head with a low chuckle, however, able to imagine the scene. "Yes, I'm sure. But when he gets old like me, or perhaps when he has his own kits (what type of she-cat would like him, though?), he'll learn the joy of kits." Sparrowpelt puffed out his chest slightly, thinking back many memories when he had just been a kit himself. Yes... That was a long time ago. "In the meantime, he better enjoy them. Wolfkit gave his den-mates a look of uncertainty before he turned around, fluffing out his fur. "How about we try to find the medicine cat's den?" he questioned, twitching his tail. It wouldn't hurt to take a peek in, right? He was fascinated by his father's job, the idea of being able to care for his clan-mates through the use of herbs and poultices captivated the young cat.

Twining her tail with her mate's, Fawnsong watched the kits curiously sniff at the fish, and she remembered her own first experience with the delicious prey. The smell was tantalizing to her as well, though she decided to wait for her kits to get their share first. Fawnsong nodded in response to Foxkit's question, giving her daughter a purr of encouragement. "Fish come in all sizes," she informed the kit with a soft voice.

"How strange," Tawnymask frowned, staring into the water with a mix of confusion and disappointment. "I didn't expect the waters to get so low and dead this early into Greenleaf," she remarked, giving the water one last scan to be sure she hadn't missed any movement of life. "I'll have to tell Milkstar to start sending land hunting patrols rather than at the lake," she mumbled, mostly to herself as a reminder. The heat of the season had crept up quickly and quietly, engulfing the forest in a blazing humid heat that was hard to get away from.
