Yeah... I think ShadowClan were always doomed to be mean :/
I remember looking through Kate's Blog, and when someone complained about how horrible Rowanstar was, Kate was just all like "well that's ShadowClan, what do you expect?".
So it's obvious Kate doesn't intend to get rid of ShadowClan's stereotypical jerkish behavior anytime soon.

Yeah... I think ShadowClan were always doomed to be mean :/ I remember looking through Kate's Blog, and when someone complained about how horrible Rowanstar was, Kate was just all like "well that's ShadowClan, what do you expect?". So it's obvious Kate doesn't intend to get rid of ShadowClan's stereotypical jerkish behavior anytime soon. Which is sad. I wish they had more layers than "Well, that's the jerk Clan" or whatever. I hope they get some development later on in the story though I'm not sure if it will be good or not. |

Tbh, I'm not surprised by this at all. Given how even the apprentices are disrespectful, I expected for ShadowClan to be disorganized.
Also, Sleekpaw is Dawnpelt's daughter, but not her apprentice. Her mentor is actually Tigerheart.
And it's hard to say whether Pinenose cares for Violetkit or not, but she does seem to at least to an extent. She's certainly not as bad as other queens though, namely Lizardstripe.

Tbh, I'm not surprised by this at all. Given how even the apprentices are disrespectful, I expected for ShadowClan to be disorganized. Also, Sleekpaw is Dawnpelt's daughter, but not her apprentice. Her mentor is actually Tigerheart. And it's hard to say whether Pinenose cares for Violetkit or not, but she does seem to at least to an extent. She's certainly not as bad as other queens though, namely Lizardstripe. Oh whoops. I knew she was someway related in someway to Sleekpaw. WHOOPS. Still, jeez, disrespectful apprentices. And I think she cares for her to an extent but I don't think she's giving the right time of affection considering the circumstances. But she's not abusive a la Lizardstripe and Rainflower and whatnot. Sometimes people are neglectful and it's not necessarily on purpose. They just aren't able to fulfill people's needs. Or cats needs in this case. |

At least Needlepaw seems like she's going to have a close relationship with Violetkit from now on, or at least try. |

I hope they get some development later on in the story though I'm not sure if it will be good or not. But at the same time... I sorta think Kate has a point. I remember people being really excited to read Yellowfang's Secret and see ShadowClan's POV, but were like, "what the heck? They were horrible! It was just a clan full of jerks!". And there was a lot of disappointment. It's almost like people expected them to secretly be even more nice than ThunderClan, but ended up seeing a clan that partially lived up to their reputation and didn't do very well disproving their "evil" name. So really... I think what we saw was yes, half Rowanstar having trouble controlling his clan, but also that they are naturally a stern, even harsh clan who have historically easily lowered their standards. They barely put up a fight when Brokenstar broke the warrior codes one by one, they quickly slipped under Sol's spell, and now under a new leader they are struggling with loyalty and obedience. I do think they can change- and the authors have the ability to write that into them- but I'm also not complaining that they have stayed the same- since cultures can stay ingrained in family lines for generations upon generations- especially if they stay isolated from other influences. I just think the whole "ShadowClan are jerks" thing is plain boring now ^^" I get it, it may be apart of who they are... but a change would be nice xD |

I mentioned this in a different post but I feel like ShadowClan has always been portrayed as flippant toward their medicine cats. Yellowfang's Secret was the first portrayal of how ShadowClan see their medicine cats. Which is they didn't see them as all that important simply because they didn't hunt or fight. Even being called cowards. And did you see ow quickly the whole Clan turned on Yellowfang when Brokenstar called her a murderer? To see that they think that a cat only needs a few moons of teaching and then they'll be a proper medicine cat is stupid. On top of that the one becoming a medicine cat needs to actually want to be a medicine cat. Does Roawnstar not realize that they're forcing a kit to give up one day being a father? Or being allowed a mate in general? And then who knows if StarClan will accept them? Does Puddlekit even believe in StarClan? I mean Sleekpaw doesn't that's obvious. Leafpool was the first to really know about Mothwing she had to teach Willowshine about StarClan and their duties as medicine cats because of it.
To be honest I'm not at all surprised because this similar behavior was seen in the past. But I am worried about cats who haven't been so agressive or unapproachable in the past. Tawnypelt seems fine but what about Tigerheart? I know for a fact Kate hates him and I wouldn't be surprised if Kate let's her bias change his character.
Like I said Pinenose has some grade A parenting going on but at least she's a step up from Lizardstripe.
