Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw both wanted to go to the Tribe and help them in Outcast, and oddly enough Ashfur was there to help decide if Firestar should let them go. This is what Ashfur said:
Ashfur said they can easily spare a few warriors. Does this mean that he wanted Firestar to sacrifice Squirrelflight's life in the middle of unknown territory? Ashfur made it sound like losing a few warriors meant nothing, and I am pretty sure he wanted Squirrelflight to die in the journey.

I've noticed this too. Wouldn't surprise me if that were the case.

Wow, I didn't ever notice that! Yeah, it would be a convenient way to get rid of Squirrelflight, her kits, and Brambleclaw in one go. WOW, I just realized the whole gang was out there! That was perfect for Ashfur, who probably hoped at least one of them died, leaving Squirrelflight heartbroken.

I don't think he meant it like that. I'm pretty sure he meant spare as in they had enough warriors back in camp to protect themselves if anything should happen, so it's perfectly okay to send other warriors to help the tribe. Besides...I'm pretty sure he wouldn't blow his cover that easily. He didn't want to kill Squirrelflight, he just wanted to make he suffer, and him wanting her to possible die where he can't see it, also doesn't seem in character for him. I think he only really did this to get her trust, that way when he blind sided her later his plan would work even better.
