What has happened in the span of eleven days. Started a new fanfic which I probably won’t finish. The holidays. Babysitting my cousin constantly. Revision.

I never understood the hype over these hero movies. Maybe it's because I was never into DC comics or Marvel when I was younger, preferring anime instead. I dunno, just something that doesn't pique my interest when everyone else seems obsessed with it.
Speaking of movies, thoughts on the Sonic and Pokemon live actions? I think they're ridiculous and whoever made them should reflect upon their life decisions and what brought them down this path. Because sometimes capitalism isn't everything, and even though you can make money doing it you probably shouldn't be doing it. Like these live actions.
But all that doesn't really matter much. I'm just here to bump the thread and keep it alive for 2020.

Sonic and Pokemon live action. nope. Nope. NOpe. NOPe. NOPE. NOPEMy reaction EXACTLY. Where are all these live actions coming from? Why no more original movies? Why no more book adaptations? Current movies are all remakes of older ones. I never liked watching movies when I was younger, but these days it's only gotten worse. Sure, there are good movies released all the time. Just the amount of live actions/remakes seem to have skyrocketed these past few years. I mean, I could be wrong. I haven't done any research into any of this, it's just all about what I feel. But I feel like there are more live actions/remakes being released now than there used to be, and they don't look good.

Like heck, I love the animated version of Disney, some of the best movies ever produced. I hate the fact that they feel the need to remake all these movies (I’ll let Spider-Man and The Amzing Spider-Man slide since, just yeah) I do think there’s more live action being released, as you say. But the thing is, the way that movies are animated, they try to make it look real. But then it starts looking too real for it to start looking fake.

Sonic and Pokemon live action. nope. Nope. NOpe. NOPe. NOPE. NOPESonic– yeah that thing is nightmare fuel. But Pokemon actually deserves a chance. Hear me out. I honestly really don't like the whole remakes trend myself... It shows a total lack of creativity in the movie industry these days, and just reminds me of how the only way they'll dare to tiptoe out of the factory-produced standard movie structure of the decade is if they can instead ride on cheap nostalgia and already-made stories which they know were successful in hindsight. While Detective Pikachu calls back on nostalgia, that certainly isn't all it's banking on, and I have to say, it's probably the most creative movie and most zany, risky idea I've seen in years. For one thing, it's not a remake of any preexisting movie, and it's loosely based off of a SPINOFF game of all things. Like, what? A spinoff game? And imagine how hard it must've been to render Pokemon in real life. Those easily could have fallen either into the camp of being too realistic to the point where they were unrecognizeable, or so close to the originals that it wouldn't have felt like an innovation at all. These Pokemon designs, to my delight and surprise, were kind of perfect for what they were made for. Iconic, easily recognizeable, but they actually felt like they fit in the real world. Super fun! Sure, they were a little creepy by nature, but I seriously respect that instead of ignoring it or trying to cover up that factor, they kind of embraced it and made the world feel a little dangerous, creepy, but ultimately freaking awesome and FUN! Ultimately, the creepiness factor just made the world feel that much more risky and unique among so many other super safe films today. And did you know for these designs they hired some Deviantartist who had made these ultra-realistic Pokemon paintings which got internet-famous? I mean, hiring some independent artist based on a one-off art series seems kind of outside the comfort zone of most companies working movies that are big like this. But they went for it! What! And then there are their casting choices. Ryan Renolds was Pikachu. They got Ryan Renolds on, and they opted to hide his face behind a Pikachu. And the other main characters who did act as humans in this film were definitely not as famous and 'safe' of a choice as a celebrity like Ryan Renolds. No ultra-iconic faces, no saturating their main cast with famous people– they were willing to take the risk on lesser-known actors for the vast majority of their cast, and just kind of use Ryan Renolds as a gag you could catch if you recognized the voice. And you know, it worked! Either way, this wasn't just some cheap movie made for a quick buck. They really poured love, effort, and creativity into this. I gotta say, I was hesitant at first myself, but after getting a feel for the trailers and then seeing it myself yesterday, I just have to hand it to them. By no means is it a perfect movie, but they broke the mold in such a fun way that you just have to respect them for that! I had the best time because I didn't automatically know where they were going to go with the story, or the tone, or know what the grandstanding moral at the end was going to be (there wasn't one– that is, whatever messages it had were subtler than the whole Uglydolls "it's okay to be different" and the like). So yeah! Getting off my soapbox now XD I know this movie seems a little odd and with the live action trend surging it's easy to doubt it, but I can say I had the best time and this was one of the most unique movies I've seen in a long time, which is frankly super refreshing. Especially if you like Pokemon, I highly reccommend you see it
