Frey padded away from the nursery and back over to the fresh-kill pile. He took a thrush from the top of the pile and glanced around the camp for a place to sit and eat.

Grimm intercepted Frey with his fresh kill. "We need to hunt," he said simply, deciding he was the best cat to start with. "There's not much left, so please finish quickly and take some other cats with you..." he hoped the other tom wouldn't argue as he stared blankly with unblinking amber eyes.
Pine padded behind the group with Dark, Bones, Raven and the others. She felt highly out of place as they began marking the trees close to the river. A claw mark there, a spray here. She grappled her claws forlornly down a willow tree, the bark clumping a little between her toes.
(Guys don't forget you can just insert yourself on the border patrol if you want.)

Pine glanced at Lily for a moment as the young cat sniffed. "Anything new?" she asked, though actually rather disinterested to find out. If she could, she would slip away from the party while no one was looking and head back to camp or up towards the mountains by herself but she didn't want to rouse any suspicion.

Pine sighed and sniffed again to try to help out the apprentice, her eyes grew wide as she did, "Oh no, Bones was right. There is a fox around here somewhere. Even I can smell it now. It must be coming back around..." she cut off and bounded towards Dark, "The fox is getting close again." she hissed.
Dark sniffed too, "Everyone!" she called, "Stop what you're doing. We have a fox to track and drive out."
Bones nodded and looked up towards the sky, worried that it was starting to get dark.

Pine glanced at Lily, seeing her escape back to camp, "No, foxes are too dangerous. They will kill and eat smaller younger cats. Come on let's go home for now so we can warn the others." without asking permission from the leader, Pine bounded off behind a leafy bush to head back to camp. She didn't really want to face a fox either.
Bones' eyes narrowed as she noticed her leave and she said nothing, pretending to have not noticed and continuing to sleuth around.

Pine hissed softly from the branches, "Come on, Lily. Do you want to get killed? Let's go!" she shuffled anxiously. The other cats hadn't seemed to notice yet.

Lex's tall frame meandered silently behind Raven's as he followed the group toward the border, amber eyes flickering to and fro as he surveyed the area. His large paws remained expertly quiet as he cautiously tread, whiskers twitching softly as he parted his jaws to taste the air. He simply came to halt and watched the others mark the borders with his deep, amber eyes.
Sybil's eyes flickered open softly as she awoke from the short nap she'd taken, jowl parting in a yawn to reveal her sharp, white teeth. The young molly got to her paws slowly, making sure to stretch each appendage before she stood up fully, fluffy tail sweeping the ground behind her. Her eyes wandered about the camp, wondering what everyone was up to during this time of the day.

Pine shrugged. "I don't think so? I'm not a very good fighter or tracker so I'm probably just as useless, and I want to see you safe." It was true, she did like the apprentice, even if other cats made her nervous the younger ones usually didn't. "Besides, someone does have to warn the camp because it would be a disaster if the fox got into the nursery. Don't see it as being disobedient, see it as taking initiative." she hoped she was right.
Grimm continued to pace the camp, noticing Sybil was awake he grumbled something that sounded like a hello to the apprentice.

[ lex is gonna hang with the patrol ]
The young apprentice's ear twitched as Grimm approached her, groaning inwardly as she realized he had acknowledged her in his own muttered grumble. "Um, hey Grimm," Sybil began awkwardly, unsure why the older tom had even greeted her. I bet he wants me to do something, she thought suddenly, annoyance pricking at her paws. She quickly pushed it away and tried to look bright and attentive as she waited for his orders.

Grimm mumbled something else, "Do you... hunting... please?" The large tom was terrible at speaking up, so it was hard to make out what he said. But before Sybil could respond he turned his back to her again.
Pine and Lily were entering camp together and Pine strode up to Grimm, nodding to Sybil as she approached, "There's been a fox scented near the southern border near the red ravine." she said plainly.
"So? What d you want me to do about it?" Grimm replied.

Frey couldn't answer even though he wanted to, the thrust still in his jaws. He hesitated for a moment staring back at Grimm before giving a small nod.

Sybil blinked awkwardly as Grimm didn't form full sentences. She opened her mouth to respond but was cut off as Pine and Lily entered camp. Blinking softly, she twitched an ear, curiosity gleaming in her eyes as the pair spoke. "A fox?" she repeated, tail swishing behind her. "Did you see it?"

"No, but we all smelled it." Pine replied. "Grimm, foxes are dangerous to the kits and apprentices." she meowed. "Someone needs to keep an eye on the nursery."
Grimm only blinked in response and turned toward the nursery only to sit in front of it.

Olive was sitting near the edge of the camp, silently watching the other cats in the clearing, but it wasn't too far for her to overhear the conversation beginning between Pine and Grimm. "A fox?" she echoed, the edges of her maw curling up in a grin. "Sounds like fun. I wish I could be there to give it the clawing it deserves." Olive's brother had agreed to go with the patrol that was scouting out the new territory, but she had opted to stay behind. While speed was her specialty, long periods of endurance sure weren't. She was perfectly fine with leaving that up to the others.

Sybil turned to watch Grimm pad away, wrinkling her nose at how awkward he was. She turned her attention back to Pine only to see Olive trot over and speak. She flicked her ears and response and nodded, her own brother out with the patrol. "Same here, I've never fought a fox before," she mused.

Salmon was chewing on the mouse in the nursery. She stopped when she heard Grimm sit just outside and she pricked her ears, watching the entrance cautiously.

Olive flicked her tail. "I'm up for it." She was also curious as to what her brother was up to, and if he was as excited for the coming skirmish that was almost sure to happen as she was. She hadn't flexed her claws in a long time, least of all on a fox. Finally, I'll no longer be bored out of my mind, she thought. She used to just wander the world with Hickory, never having her nest in the same place twice, but now that she had joined the DarkBlood Cats, things were different. Sometimes, she missed their old, exciting way of life.
