--Hello, WFF! It is I, Swift, rising from the land of the dead (finals week), coming to you with a new project. It seems like the WFF needs a new one-shot contest, and I've always thought it would be fun to run one of these, so, here you go. I'm of the opinion that there's nothing that fuels writing more than a little friendly competition mixed with a deadline (which is why NaNoWriMo works so well!), so with this contest, you have a week to write a one shot based on a prompt. That's all it is. It's simple in concept, and, I hope, a fun way to grow your writing skills while meeting other writers on this forum. May the plot bunnies breed away, and good luck!
--The prompts will be posted for each week on Saturday morning, and will be judged Friday afternoon. The winner will be posted on the front page, along with a link to their winning one-shot.
--All entries will be judged on a fifteen point scale.
?/3 for mechanics ( grammar/spelling/punctuation)
?/1 relevance to prompt
?/1 for title
?/2 for characters
?/2 for originality
?/2 for plot
?/2 for description
?/2 for worldbuilding
There is a possibility for two bonus points.
--The final results with be posted on this thread. If you want a breakdown on why you lost/gained points, I will happily do that.
--To enter, just give me a link to your one-shot here, and tag me in the original post.
--There will be a second, bonus prompt below the main. If you write that prompt into your story as well, you get an extra two points.
--One-shots must be be between 500 and 2500 words. Please post total word count at the top of the page in your original post. --This should go without saying, but the work HAS TO BE YOURS. If I find out you've plagiarized, you will be disqualified from the round and will not be allowed to participate in future contests. --Your entry must be written specifically for the one-shot contest. Even if you have a previous work that fits the prompt, it must be new. --Once your one-shot is posted, it cannot be edited. --It has to be about cats. I understand that the forums now allow you to post original works, but since this contest is run through the WFF, it must be cats based. Our first winner is the lovely and talented » ѕнαdσω ⚔️ with her story, The Last Caller! Although the story is short, she builds an intriguing world you wish to know more about, hinting at a complicated, fascinating magic system, as well as a different religion than the StarClan we know and love. MissMistyno need to be aggressive, swift's clearly not done with the page. in case you can't wait, though: one shot contests are usually contests that provide a prompt, and people write a story based on that prompt. it's a short story rather than anything longform, and it must be only one chapter, hence the name. some folks offer reviews or banners or art as prizes. the contest i used to run was intended to challenge folks to better their skills, so it was more for fun, and the winner got a week of local glory featured on the contest's main post, and would be replaced by the next week's winner after contest judging. that format tended to foster friendly competition and personal improvement, which is always amazing here in the wff. a lot of wff contests over the years have been more about having a good time and friendly competition + improving skills than winning any particular prize.

MissMistyLike Tues said, one-shot contests are writing contests where you're given a prompt and a specific word count limit. For this contest, it will be between 500 and 2500 words, so about the length of your average fanfic chapter. This contest won't have any sort of prize like maybe a full length fanfic contest, because there's going to be a new prompt once a week, and I don't have that much extra time. Again, like Tues said, it's more meant to help refine your craft in a friendly, competitive way, and often times, everyone who entered would go around and read all the other entries, so it helps foster community, as well.

mintedstar/furOkay, and that's fine! Just add a note to me about why you edited. The rule is mostly to ensure fairness, because I know what sometimes you start getting all these ideas after you post it, but once you post you are officially entered. So you can do stuff like add the wordcount, change the note to me, but not the actual body of the one-shot.
