H i s t o r y
Long ago, there was one Clan that ruled the forest. This Clan had no name besides "The Clan;" after all, with no other Clans, why would it need a name to differentiate it? But as always, over time there became disharmony. It has been countless moons, seasons, and generations since this occurred, and so no cat living or dead now remembers the cause of the split, but still it came. The cats warred among themselves. When they divided, the territory was not large enough for two Clans to survive in separate territories, though they tried for many moons. Cats starved and died. And finally, the leaders of both of the new Clans came together on the newleaf equinox- the time when night and day are the same length- and came to an agreement.
The two Clans would share their territory, but they would only use it at certain times. The one that would become MorningClan would hunt during the day, while the Clan that is now EveningClan would hunt only at night. Thus, if a MorningClan cat should at night be out of their camp or the small area around it, it would be considered trespassing; the same for EveningClan, but during the day. Both Clans claimed small patches of land around their camps that was exclusively their territory, but the rest of the land was for both. And thus the rather unique balance of modern MorningClan and EveningClan was created.
A b o u t M o o n C l a n
EveningClan is one of two Clans which live side-by-side in a deep river valley. Because space here is scarce, and neither of the two Clans are neither willing nor especially able to move, the two have a unique situation where most of their territory is shared. EveningClan is the Clan which hunts at night, from the moment the last rays of sunlight fade in the west to when the sky turns orange in the east.
As one would expect of cats who only hunt at night, EveningClan is made up of cats with neutral-colored and often dark pelts, such as gray, black, and brown. Brightly-colored cats, like ginger or tawny, are very uncommon, and if you see a white cat in the Clan they are almost certainly of mixed blood. EveningClan cats tend to be fairly small and lithe, as well as nimble- they are able to move carefully through the dark and silent forest, making no noise as they stalk their prey. They tend to have thick pelts to ward of the chill of the night, and though cats with long fur are the most common, cats with medium or short fur do exist, so long as their pelts are still thick enough to avoid freezing. Most cats have dim-colored eyes, often of orange, dark amber, or graying tones, but blue is also very common in this Clan.
EveningClan cats tend to be quite quiet, reserved, and even melancholy in personality. They are quite secretive, and tend to hide their motives and emotions from others. Thus, EveningClan cats seem to live in continuous contemplation, often planning but rarely acting. Because of this, their feelings tend to fester- a grudge could be held silently and secretly for moons before revealing itself suddenly and explosively. Romance tends to go similarly, and though it may seem obvious to others that two cats belong together, it may take forever for either one of them to make a move.
However, this isn't to say that EveningClan cats are complete loners. They tend to have a few friends within their Clan to whom they are quite close, and allow themselves to appear a bit more vulnerable to than the rest of the Clan. Most cats have a very obvious best friend with whom they share everything with; it may be a mate or sibling or even parent, but the two cats will often be nigh inseparable, and know practically everything about the other. Even more so than loyalty to the Clan, EveningClan cats value loyalty to their friends, and breaking the trust of your best friend in any significant way is socially considered almost paramount to breaking the warrior code.
R o l e p l a y R u l e s
☾ Use common sense. Obey forum rules, don't troll, be respectful, don't steal other peoples' ideas, don't control or kill other peoples' characters (without their permission), etc. etc.
☾ Keep characters realistic- this goes for appearance, personality, history, and all that good stuff. This is a claim-a-cat roleplay, so for the most part this shouldn't be an issue since characters are preset- however, this will be true for the occasional OC which I will allow in as a loner/rogue, as well as for kits born in the rp. As for personality, try to keep their reactions and motivations consistent and based in reality- they will have strengths and weaknesses, and reasons for doing the things they do.
☾ Staying at a minimum literacy level is also important for keeping this roleplay going and enjoyable for all. This is a semi-literate roleplay, meaning that good (albeit not perfect) grammar is needed, as well as a minimum average of three lines per post. So, not every post has to be exactly three lines- some should be more, and sometimes they can be less depending on the situation. Just try to keep three lines as your soft minimum. As for grammar, I would count good grammar, at its lowest level as being consistent minor grammatical mistakes (forgetting some commas or occasionally using the wrong punctuation), with more noticeable mistakes (just as run-on sentences or major misspellings) being present but rare.
☾ Plots are important for keeping a roleplay interesting and progressing, so please, please, please plot away! Personal plots between a pair of characters or a small group of characters, which will not affect the Clan in any major or devastating way, does not necessarily need approval- however, if you are asked to stop, please stop. I would also encourage you to be more creative with your personal plots than just forbidden romances and similarly common themes- a few are fine, but having more than one in each Clan (maybe two max) starts to become rather unrealistic and tedious. As for larger plots- things which will affect the entire Clan, or both Clans, or prophecies, or anything of the sort- please get my approval first. If you have an idea for a plot, PM it to me. Then, we can work out the details and implementation together to make sure it fits smoothly into the rp.
☾ Activity is also important for keeping a roleplay running smoothly, or running at all. Because activity tends to wax and wane based on the interest and real-life of those involved, there won't be a set time limit on how often you have to be on. Instead, we expect you to be on frequently enough to make a decent roleplay post every 5 pages or less, at a minimum (a decent roleplay post being one which is at least three lines; chatting posts, and posts shorter than this, don't count). If you fail to do this (without an adequate excuse) you will be given a warning. After 5 warnings, you may be removed. If you fail to make a decent roleplay post for 15 consecutive pages (again, without a decent excuse) you may also be removed.
☾ Activity rules for those who have high ranks, or are relevant to important plots, are slightly stricter. Instead of being removed after 15 pages, you will lose your rank after 10 pages of absence, or after 3 incidents of not being present (within a reasonable time frame) when needed for plot reasons (ie, a medicine cat being required for an injury, or a leader needed to make an important decision). If you think this may be a problem for you, you may mitigate it by assigning that important character an alternate roleplayer- someone who you allow to temporarily play that character when you are not on for a long time, for the sake of resolving immediate plots only (ie, a medicine cat treating a wound). You don't have to assign an alt.rper., but you may if you choose.
☾ Finally, a rule on chatting. You are expected to separate your OOC talk from your roleplaying using brackets, parentheses, or some similar and equally obvious method. Please be nice to each other out of character, even if your characters don't get along- if you have an OOC problem with someone, and cannot resolve it like an adult, please ask for help. A small amount of chatting on roleplay pages is acceptable, especially if paired with continued roleplaying. However, for conversations that are more than 5 posts long (which are not taking place alongside rp), please take it elsewhere.
T h e W a r r i o r C o d e
☾ Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.
☾ Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory.
☾ Elders, queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating.
☾ Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
☾ A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
☾ Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
☾ A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
☾ The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires or is exiled.
☾ After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
☾ A Gathering of both Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting between Clans at this time.
☾ Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.
☾ No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from outside their Clan.
☾ The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code.
☾ An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win their battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.
☾ Both Clans have the right to be proud and independent, but in times of trouble they must forget their boundaries and fight side by side to protect both. Both Clans must help the other so that neither Clan will fall.
C a m p
EveningClan's camp is located in the southwestern part of the valley, very close to the mountains and wedged between their stony flanks and the river. It is in a rocky hollow in the forest, and most dens are in bushes or dug from burrows between the twisting roots of the trees that grow at the top of the hollow. EveningClan's territory consists of the area between the river and the mountains near their camp, and MorningClan cats must never tread here without permission from EveningClan.
☾ The leader's den is....
☾ The warriors' den is....
☾ The apprentices' den is....
☾ The nursery is....
☾ The elders' den is....
☾ The medicine den is....
J o i n i n g
This is a claim-a-cat roleplay, and thus most of a character's information is already given in the allegiances. Cats are provided with a name, virtues (except for apprentices and kits), brief description, a single flaw, and an image. They also have some set relationships- parents, siblings, mates, and kits. Others may also have history anecdotes about important things which have happened to them. When you claim a character, you may add to their information as much as you want, but you may not contradict anything that has already been listed. For example, if you cannot see their tail in the image, you may specify that they have a white tail-tip. Their personality is also yours to define, but you need not describe it.

P l o t s
It has been about four moons since Bluepeak of MorningClan revealed on her deathbed that Raventuft was the father of her kits, Silverfern and Blossomdawn, and only three since the members of EveningClan found out. Ever since, Raventuft has been labeled as somewhat of an outsider, treated with suspicion and even hostility from his Clanmates. Cats have become a bit nosier than usual, most keeping a close and suspicious eye on their Clanmates. Whereabouts and loyalties are frequently called into question, leading to hostility and rivalry. No cat wants to be suspected of breaking the warrior code, after all, and nowadays it seems like all it takes is an accusation to make Clanmates suspicious, regardless of truth. Cats are more adherent than ever to the warrior code, and even small offenses are punished. Some cats- especially some of the younger apprentices- dislike the stricter turn the Clan has taken, and are acting out more than usual, sometimes overtly and sometimes in secret. Slowly, the Clan is becoming divided between those who feel that stricter control of the Clan, and enforcement of the warrior code, is necessary, while others feel that Raventuft's disloyalty is not a reflection of the entire Clan.
N e w s
In-Character ☾ Lostpaw earned his warrior name: Lostpath.
☾ Amberhawk died of old age.
☾ Icesnap and Sleekbird died from blackcough.
☾ Tulipkit became medicine cat apprentice, Tulippaw.
☾ Riverdew moved to the nursery expecting Lostpath's kits.
☾ Fernshadow drowned in the river,
☾ Bubblekit, Minkkit, and Flutterkit were born to Riverdew and Lostpath.
☾ Fallowkit, Sneakkit, and Whisperkit became apprentices; Fallowpaw is mentored by Slatestone, Sneakpaw by Burningmoon, and Whisperpaw by Shadebriar.
☾ Smokemurmur moved to the nursery expecting Crowbristle's kits.
☾ Leafpaw was given her warrior name: Leafshred.
Out-of-Character ☾ 11-23-2017 EveningClan is created and opened for joining. ☾ 12-1-2017 Briarspirit claimed Leafshred and Wildpaw. Hollydawn claimed Dryrock and Fallowpaw.
☾ 12-10-2017 raventhroat claimed Spidertuft, Ivythistle, and Nightpuddle.

Wildpaw woke up in the dim moonlight. His bright green eyes glowed in the darkness as he got up and scanned the camp. MorningClan cats should be asleep now, he thought, as they can't appreciate the advantages of the dark. Carefully yet confidently padding out of his den, he let his nose and ears instead of his eyes guide his steps. He breathed in the cool air, relaxing as he felt he was wrapped in the night. He pricked his ears, hoping his mentor would take him out for a training session.
Leafshred got up from her den, looking for her sister automatically. She was almost surprised when she saw the warriors surrounding her. Your sister doesn't rest in the same den with you anymore, a small voice in her head said. Lichenpaw hadn't made it to warrior yet. Before she does, Leafshred will be sleeping in separate dens from her sister. Yet I'm sure she'll make it here soon, she thought, with more firmness. She had faith in her Clanmates, and of course her sister would not be an exception.

Dryrock Dryrock woke groggily as the moon rose, standing up from his nest with stiff legs. The other warriors were beginning to stir now as well, a faint murmur settling over the den as everyone prepared for the night ahead. He moved to leave the den, hoping to run into his children before they were assigned to a patrol or training so that he could see how the apprenticeship was coming along (he felt a responsibility to know how the young ones were and what they were doing each day now, due to the sudden death of Fernshadow), when he noticed the brown tabby.
"Good evening, Leafshred," he meowed as he passed. "Everything alright?"
He was not, in truth, entirely interested in the answer, simply curious. To help the other members of the clan was also a boon to himself; it gained him trust and reputation. Fallowpaw Fallowpaw paced impatiently in the camp as she waited for her own mentor to awaken. She was itching to do something- anything! Hunt, train, fight those Morningclan mousebrains... it all sounded good to her, the last option just the slightest bit more appealing than the rest. She had to redeem herself after the fox incident, had to prove that she wasn't just an immature kit who couldn't even properly protect her clan. The black fur on her neck and tail began to puff up out of irritation without her realizing.

Leafshred dipped her head in polite as a reply to the older warrior. "Yes, Dryrock." she watched him padding out of the den alone, remembering with sympathy that he had lost his mate to the water not long ago. His son, Wildpaw, seemed to have developed a fear for water after his mother's death. There's so much to do, yet there are so many tragedies we cannot stop from happening, she thought, a little depressed. But at least she could devote herself to her Clan to serve it to the upmost. With the thought in mind, she slipped into the camp, hoping to join any patrols that would need warriors.
Wildpaw was surprised when he saw his father coming towards him. He did not expect his father to get up some quickly, and definetely did not expect him to come towards the apprentice's den either. However, one can say he was glad to see his father; he was swishing his tail with delight. "Good evening, Dryrock," Wildpaw mewed.

Dryrock "Good evening, Wildpaw," Dryrock replied. He looked over his son quickly, just to make sure that he hadn't sustained any injuries since the last time they spoke, before nodding to himself, satisfied. "I hope your training is going well. How are you and Waterpaw holding up?"
He worried for how his sons must be taking the change, especially with Wildpaw's newfound fear. It wasn't easy to lose a parent, and neither was it easy to keep up with one's duties in the wake of it. However, he had both high hopes and high expectations; after all, Wildpaw was up so early, and was seemingly ready to go. Dryrock appreciated the drive. Fallowpaw As the camp began to fill with the the bodies of other cats, Fallowpaw forced herself to sit, licking at the brown fur of her chest in embarrassment. She hoped that not many cats had seen her that way. The idea that- StarClan forbid- a warrior had noticed her getting so antsy... she hoped that Slatestone would be awake soon, that way she could escape from the camp and distract herself.

It was well into the night by the time Waterpaw woke. For a moment he was content to lie there in silence and solitude, in the darkness, watching as the moonlight swayed between the branches above. It seemed most of the other apprentices had already awoken, heading out for the night to tread what would be their territory until dawn. A few soft voices murmured from outside, and the young tom thought he could make out the voices of his father and brother. For a heartbeat, he waited for Fernshadow's response... but after a moment, when none came, he remembered with a pang that she was gone. He would never again hear her quiet, comforting voice lulling him to wakefulness, or see the pride glittering in her eyes at his accomplishments. The river had stolen that from him, and for a moment, in his half-wakeful vulnerability, the despair threatened to overwhelm him like a desperate, mewling kit.
No, that's not how Grousestar would react, he thought firmly, forcing that feeling to the back of his mind. Compartmentalizing it, forcing himself to forget that pain until another sleepy dusk. I'm practically a warrior by now.... and warriors stay strong... we let no one see our weaknesses. Waterpaw lay there for a few heartbeats longer, before rolling to his paws and shaking the moss out of his pelt. His heart was steeled, and he was ready for the night. He quickly groomed his long gray pelt, meticulously picking out the tangles and leaf-litter with his teeth- the young tom was nothing if not rather vain. And then finally, he headed out of the den.
Sure enough, Dryrock and Wildpaw were outside the den. For a moment, Waterpaw balked at the entrance of the den, not sure if he wanted to join in their conversation. He and Wildpaw used to be close, but ever since Fernshadow's death, it seemed like they were drifting apart. They both dealt with their grief in very different ways, after all. Dryrock, too... most of the time, it almost seemed like he didn't care. Other times, Waterpaw could see what could almost be a hint of sadness in his eyes or voice, but he never knew if he imagined it, just by hoping it was there. Either way, he was at a loss of how to deal with his father, either. A part of him wanted to run to him for comfort, but his pride would never allow it. No, he was nearly a warrior.
Finally, the young tom trotted out of the den, heading for his kin with a look of aloof boredom on his face. He nodded to Dryrock a bit callously, practically ignoring his brother altogether. "Hey, Dryrock," he greeted, flicking his tail. "I'm fine," he added, answering the question the older tom had directed at Wildpaw. "What are you up to tonight?"
(ah yes, I think Waterpaw is gonna be a pricky jerkwad on the outside but a delicate cinnamon roll on the inside lmao)

Dryrock The snub did not go unnoticed on Dryrock's part. Waterpaw was a much different story from Wildpaw, growing rapidly distant ever since the loss of his mother. Of course, some change in behavior had been anticipated- Dryrock was not oblivious to the workings of grief in different cats, as warrior life left many without their loved ones- but Waterpaw's transformation had come as somewhat of a surprise. While Wildpaw seemed to focus his own emotions into working hard towards his warrior ceremony, Waterpaw's intentions were more complicated, harder to parse out. Dryrock dealt with the loss in his own way, though there was a complexity to his own feelings that he was sure neither young apprentice would understand. In any case, it left Dryrock concerned on many levels; not only did he fear for the well-being of his progeny, but there was also the pressing matter of how his son's behavior would reflect back on himself.
"Good to hear, Waterpaw," he meowed, golden eyes narrowing slightly. He made sure to keep his tone level, casual enough not to scare him away, but not so much that Waterpaw would think he was entirely off the hook. Growing outwardly angry was not so much his style, as one could tell from his relaxed posture and lazily swinging tail, and he doubted that doing so would help him in growing closer to his son. "I'm waiting for instructions from Grousestar myself. Did you sleep well?" Because you certainly slept late, he thought to himself.
Dryrock was careful not to say anything about the slight towards his brother, waiting to see how Wildpaw himself would react. It was essential for him to learn to stick up for himself in such situations.
(What a sweetheart, I love him already! Poor thing. I've imagined Dryrock as being more focused on keeping himself in the good graces of his clanmates than anything else. He's going to try in his own way, but I don't see him being especially good or in-tune as a parent lol)

(yeah that's kind of what I was thinking XD like he does care for them in his own way but in the end the main thing that matters is that they don't make him look bad lol. Anyhow, I'm gonna let Briarspirit reply before I work on more with Waterpaw. I could bring in Slatestone to do something with Fallowpaw, though.)

Oops! Sorry for the really, really late reply)
Wildpaw flicked his ear at the presence of his brother, a little annoyed he had replied the question that was directed to him. However, it had been a while since they three ever shared a proper conversation, and he somehow still wished that they could become close to each other again, though without much hope. In addition, he had somehow picked up the hint in his father's glance, so he willed himself to hold his tongue so he could hear Waterpaw's reply.

Waterpaw was well aware of his father's stern and somewhat scolding glare. As a kit, or even a few moons ago, he would have shuffled his paws and likely apologized for his affront, however minor it might have been; now, however, he stood his ground, keeping the same uncaring, nonchalant posture and not bothering to acknowledge his offense. He glanced lazily around the camp, taking a mental inventory of who else was awake already. "Well enough," he answered Dryrock's question, flicking his tail. "Lichenpaw snores like a badger, though. Maybe if she ever earns her full name, I can sleep in peace," he added, a note of humor in his voice. "Have you seen Grayriver yet tonight? He said he would take me over to Overlook Rock so we could try to spy a bit on MorningClan. Is Darkdusk planning on taking you out as well?" Waterpaw asked, finally turning his attention to his brother.
(it's really short rip)

Wildpaw shifted his paws. Waterpaw had finally made up his mind to speak to him, but...he couldn't recall what his mentor said about his own training this evening, for he had been so tired in the early morning he had completely forgotten Darkdusk's words about his training. "I think he will take me out, though I'm not sure what plans he has for me today," he mewed finally. "Maybe we'd be joining you," he added, with a little hope in his voice. "Spying on MorningClan would totally be fun."

Dryrock Though he felt a hint of annoyance at the lack of shame from Waterpaw, Dryrock let out a purr of amusement at the enthusiasm of his kits in spying on MorningClan. He himself thought it a tempting idea, but there was nothing quite like the innocent drive of an apprentice; it was motivating, in a way. "Perhaps, if your mentors are agreeable to it, I could come along and we could make it a patrol," he suggested. "Unless you were hoping for time to bond as brothers."
As much as he would enjoy tagging along with them, Dryrock also saw the merit in allowing them time without him- perhaps to work out their distance amongst themselves, or else to fight it out until Waterpaw gave in. Though the former was the preferable outcome, he could not deny that the latter was also acceptable as long as things didn't get out of paw.

Waterpaw twitched his whiskers at the thought of both Wildpaw and Dryrock tagging along, though he also felt a twinge of uncertainty. He'd much rather be alone than having either of them following along... that would only serve to make him self-conscious, especially with his father there to watch his every move. But he couldn't show that sentiment, and so he just shrugged. "Might be fun, if Grayriver is alright with it. Maybe if we're lucky, we'll catch some weak-eyes trying to sneak out of their camp." Though he was nearing the end of his apprenticeship, Waterpaw still had yet to be involved in a real border fight with MorningClan. He had come across them at dawn and dusk, or at the edges of one border or another, but at worst the patrols had merely hissed at each other and threw insults. Waterpaw couldn't deny that he itched to dig his claws into something more threatening than a mouse or rabbit... maybe a good fight would let him vent some of the emotion that was building up inside, trying so hard to spill out.

"If we do catch them, we can teach them a lesson, and maybe we could earn our warrior names after that," Wildpaw suggested. So close to ending the apprenticeship, Wildpaw felt almost impatient for the day that he earns his warrior name to come. He wondered how he and Waterpaw would be like when that day arrived. Would they be able to patrol together and tell jokes like they used to? They used to laugh at each other and play fight, however that had not occured in a while, and he wondered when they could grow close again.

Would they be able to patrol together and tell jokes like they used to? They used to laugh at each other and play fight, however that had not occured in a while, and he wondered when they could grow close again. Waterpaw twitched his whiskers, an excited gleam in his eye. "Maybe. What would poor Lichenpaw do if we earned our names before she did?" He twitched his whiskers, thinking of how affronted the older she-cat would look at his and Wildpaw's ceremony if that were to be the case. Needless to say, Waterpaw and Lichenpaw had never especially gotten along, even as kits. They were both too headstrong; Waterpaw saw Lichenpaw as being whiny and needy, and Lichenpaw saw Waterpaw as a bossy jerk.
"How did you get your name?" he asked, looking at his father. "Just a regular assessment, or did you do something special?" He knew that Fernshadow had earned her name after scaring an owl away from camp, when it had been circling and likely looking for kits. It was not the most riveting or impressive story of all time, but Fernshadow had always been proud nonetheless. Waterpaw wondered if Dryrock had a similar story.

(Sorry for being away for so long, I didn't have enough time to make a whole post. I'll probably be pretty spotty throughout this whole week) Dryrock "Nothing all too interesting," Dryrock replied with false modesty. He sat, curling his bushy, light gray tail over his paws. It appeared that the mentors might be a minute, perhaps speaking with Grousestar or Stormhollow about what needed to be done during the night ahead outside of patrols, so he allowed himself to relax for the moment. "It was around the same time that Fernshadow earned her name. Smokemurmur and I had been out by ourselves when we scented some rogues near Blackrock; I ran back to camp to alert the warriors. We drove them out swiftly."
He thought back to the incident with fondness, remembering the heart-pounding rush that overcame him in battle. It had been the first time, really, that he had ever needed to use his training against another cat, and he had been unspeakably proud of his performance... even if he had barely touched the rogues, more experienced warriors doing the majority of the fighting.
Shaking himself out of the memory, he gave Waterpaw a light, affectionate cuff over the ear. "The two of you certainly are growing quickly." He turned to Wildpaw as well, purring. "I expect great things, and I look forward to seeing your progress."
