stormcreek ➳ briarcurl || moonclan camp { Myst }
Feeling the white and tabby warrior relax under the laps of his tongue made the lynx point tom feel a little better about himself. Maybe he could make him feel better by just being a bit more calm. Sure, Stormcreek wasn't one hundred percent okay with the results of the badger attack, and he wasn't sure if Starclan had a plan for them, but he did have enough faith to hope that something good would come their way. He noticed Maplelight talking to Morningshadow out of the corner of his eye, trying to organize patrols, perhaps. He flicked his tail and carefully retreated his tongue from the white toms fur.
Gently nudging Briarcurl, he purred. "Do you wanna help with patrols? Maybe we could lead a border patrol, or hunting patrol. It looks as if Maplelight and Morningshadow are trying to organize some. Wanna volunteer?" Stormcreek mewed, feeling that getting out of camp might help with Briarcurl's persistent and buzzing thoughts. Maybe a patrol with the tom that had wormed his way into his heart would help Stormcreek himself calm his jittery limbs.
Slowly standing, he waited patiently for Briarcurl to reply, his tail curling over his back. Stormcreek knew that getting out of camp and away from the grief and toxicity of "who will be leader now" would help them both, and the other cats around him. His blue eyes shifted to Duskwater, who looked lost and empty, sitting outside of the medicine cat's den, not moving, and definitely not making an effort to lead the clan like he should in this time of need. Did Stormcreek blame him? No, not at all. The medicine cat, though, would eventually have to bare the burden of running the clan until they received a sign. And Stormcreek could only hope he'd come to his senses soon and talk to someone and put them in charge.

Maplelight --> Morningshadow
Morningshadow was not a dumb cat, Maplelight knew that. Morningshadow was perhaps one of the very few cats that Maplelight considered competition for the leader position - if Maplelight even had competition. Should she get her way with Duskwater then there would be no such thing as competition. Leadership would be all for herself and no other cat. Besides, what other cat was as worthy to be leader than she was? That’s right, no other cat in the Clan. There were some good options, but they weren’t the best option. As for who would be her deputy… Maplelight had yet to think that through yet, but she would soon thin down her options and make a decision come moonhigh she was sure.
From the moment she could remember, Maplelight had wanted to be leader. She could vividly remember snuggling up against her mother in the nursery talking about how she was going to be leader one day with Cherryshine as her deputy. That second part had been coming from the over imaginative mind of a naive kit. Some could call the first part a kit’s dream because what kit didn’t dream of being a leader? Typically just those select few who were destined for the path of a medicine cat never dreamed of gaining the top position of their Clan. But Maplelight had never given up her dreams of becoming Maplestar of MoonClan. Her dreams had grown up into a dangerous ambition. This ambition could only be achieved if she stepped up and took the power into her own paws at a time like this. So naturally, she agreed to Morningshadow’s words. Be agreeable towards your warriors. You need their support.
The lean molly nodded her agreement. ”You’re right,” she mewed in a simple tone. A tone of agreement. A tone that suggested that they were equals. For now we can be equals, Maplelight told herself. You’re a warrior just as much as she is.
Having allowed Morningshadow - that was the word she was going to go with, allowed - to tell her where the patrols should go, Maplelight saw it to only be fair if she suggested the cats Morningshadow should take along with her. ”Why not bring Hemlocksky, Burrstrike, and Gooseheart with you?” Most of those mollies did not seem to be too devastated. At least there were other cats who were more obviously breaking down than those three. Along with Morningshadow the three would make for a decent patrol, Maplelight was quite certain of that. They were all well-minded felines. As for the cats Maplelight brought along with her, she had a few in mind. She’d scope them out once Morningshadow had agreed to taking her patrol of four out.

Mossfur --> Harestreak
Once inside the elders’ den Mossfur made it to her nest and sat down. She drew out her tongue and began to lap at her fur, nose screwing up as the bitter taste of mud washed over her. Her thick fur was a mess, but she needed to clean it if she wanted to warm up. If she kept herself cold for too long she’d catch a cough just as her brother had. While Mossfur adored and loved her nephew Duskwater, she didn’t enjoy spending time with him while cooped up in his den and being force-fed herbs. Just thinking about that made her whiskers curl up in disgust. So instead of letting herself fall ill she took as many precautions as she could to not even get the slightest bit ill.
Mossfur looked up and over to her brother, tongue still sticking half way out of her mouth. A huff of amusement escaped her at his words. ”It sure isn’t. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the first time you lost a claw. Had the entire Clan thinking you had been attacked by a fox,” the large tabby teased. Perhaps he hadn’t been that dramatic, but come on, Mossfur couldn’t pass the chance to poke fun at her brother. There always needed to be a little light in even the darkest of times.

Buckpaw --> Snowpaw
Perhaps for once in his life Buckpaw’s attention was all in one place, and that was on Snowpaw. He didn’t even take notice of the two other apprentices slipping into camp, whispering to one another about who the new leader could possibly be. If he had heard his thinking would more than likely be along the lines of his sister’s. The new leader of MoonClan was the decision of StarClan. Duskwater would receive a sign from the ancestors which would allow him to name the new leader. Surely it would happen in the next few days. Yarrowstar herself might even bring the sign to Duskwater. Or maybe even Birchfur… He had always been a very helpful cat. Birchfur would want to help his Clan in a time like this.
While a current warrior would be named leader and then another named deputy, Snowpaw still had a chance of becoming leader one day. Typically a cat named as the first deputy never lasted longer than their leader. While Buckpaw wished no ill will on any cat, he could only wonder if Snowpaw would be old enough by then to be named as a second deputy. She wasn’t too far off from becoming a warrior. Perhaps in another moon or two she could join the other warriors; Buckpaw still had a few more moons than his sister before he could earn a full-fledged name, but he was training to be a medicine cat. They always took longer to train.
A purr rippled through the apprentice’s throat. He once again nudged his sibling. ”You’ll do more than prove your worth. I just know it.” Buckpaw really did believe that his sister was destined for something great.
Never would Buckpaw deny going with his sister anywhere. He pushed himself to his paws and, with his plumy tail, flicked Snowpaw over the ear. ”Why not go down to the lake? We both know if I tried hunting everything would be scared off from here to the mountains,” he teased, already feeling a bit more like himself already. He agreed with Snowpaw. He was ready to get away from the grief. He wanted to clear his head and just spend some time with the only family he had left.
