This is a book/project I've been working on, inspired by things like Warriors and Strong Hearts are Mandatory. So here's a teaser and the prologue. The full book (still in the works) can be read here: www.wattpad.com/story/127905352-illicit-an-original-story

BLURB
There is a rebellion against the king and queen.
In this world, animals have powers related to their names, which all have to be related to living things. For example, a cat named Wren will be able to summon ginger-brown wings, a dog that is named Fire can control light, and a cat named Rosemary can summon thorn walls.
These people use their powers in defense, and it is illegal to attack. But times have changed, and due to the rebels's attacks. they decided to remove the blessing of the names. The removing of it backfired as the animals had their powers still, but now the newest generation in the past 15 years have had only the basic powers of shapeshifting into their names (animal) and levitation through wind (plant).
The sisters Rose and Mouse, descendants of the Golden Parlor, respected in the rebellion, have to win. Or else, everything they know will be shattered into dust.

PROLOGUE
I leapt on the balcony of my castle. I scented the air. Of course. If they thought they could just walk into my castle undetected, they thought wrong.
I fixed my crown and cloak, and quickly glided down the stairs. I had to hurry. They couldn't reach the gallery, or else...I growled, just as a pale tabby tom with darker flecks under his eyes walked up to me.
He dipped his head.
"M'am, we have seen the alarm go off, but they haven't been seen." he said, eyes brimming with excitement. I could see the desire of ripping their flesh apart just to prove strength, just to prove my strength.
"Thank you, Leopard." I purred. "Get backup, I'll detect them." With runes. He nodded, stepping away.
I turned to the staircase, and went another floor down until I reached the Nightwall. I clawed at the wall. Once down, the other in the middle from left to right. I drew a circle pinpointing the middle, and the pattern glowed a pale blue.
I tapped it six times and the wall crumbled beneath my paws. I grabbed the staff that was inside the wall, and as soon as I touched it, and took it out, the wall reformed, my scratches distorted in a mixed pattern.
I made some more shapes on the dark blue wall, and they glowed a pale blue once more before disappearing and making my own golden eyes light up with a dark blue. My black-and-white fur bristled, and I turned back.
Now that I could see them thanks to the Rune Magic, it's not a simple mission just sent by their leader. I snarled, my gaze hardening. I looked up. They have a death-wish now.
I looked at the white crystal door that allowed the entrance to the Gallery. Where all my crowns and jewels stood. If they were all taken today...
I walked up to it, sniffing the air. Let them see what happens when they mess with the wolf queen. My blue eyes lit up even more, and I stepped down into the cellar.
There were two cats and a dog inside. The cat that had ginger fur whispered to the dog, and I angled my ears just to hear what they were saying.
"She's here. How much does this invisibility last, Arrogance?"
She spoke in a weird accent. They must be allies from Misttoles.
The dog-husky, Arrogance (yes, definitely foreign. Emotion-base naming wasn't part of Hollyveil) looked right at me. I smiled.
"She knows. She can see us. She used runes." he said quickly, eyes darkening. I unsheathed my claws, and the ginger molly's eyes widened.
"Calm down, Isolation. We just need to get out." Finally, the brown-red tom growled. His mouth curled into a snarl and out of his back two translucent russet wings had raised. He was a Hollyveil cat, no doubt about that. Maybe Hawk or Falcon. I don't care about his name, other than the fact to announce it when he dies.
"I'm afraid you're not escaping." I cooed. I playfully cocked my head.
The russet cat's eyes narrowed. How was he not scared? I was a queen. No less, the queen who killed the Lion and the Lioness.
Arrogance murmured something to the molly.
"We retreat." he dropped his bag, which looked as if it contained many pearls and gems.
"I don't believe it." My gaze darkened in pleasure.
Arrogance flicked his ear.
"Don't forget we're stronger than you think, Wolf-Queen." he hissed.
The brown tom touched their paws and the trio disappeared. No! I had missed my chance.
I howled in protest.
Prodding at the bag, I realized those were fake. No magic. They had taken them. My jewels. But they hadn't taken all. If they did, my castle would be in shambles.
I straightened up.
"Only for now."
