Kate wanted to name Sparkpaw Sparkfire (which is redundant), but the editors had her go with Sparkpelt instead.
She wanted Twigshade for Twigpaw, but now apparently her name will be Twigbranch (with is also redundant).
Okay, then.

I've heard that Graystripe thought that Sparkfire sounded good because she reminded him of Firestar. And Twigbranch...it may not be an exciting name, but it's better than names like Fatedestroyer or whatever fans name cats these days.

I really like the name Twigshade. Twigbranch just sounds dumb to me, theyโre basically two different pieces of a tree, with the suffix being larger... At least it flows kind of nicely, I suppose....

I actually really do like Sparkfire, it sounds like it suits her, or Sparkstorm even
Twigshade sounds a little meh to me though. Wish we got either Twigleaf or Twigheart.

Seriously it's been proven that the editors are terrible at names lol Well I guess every series needs a moonmoon or twigtwig in this case Haha, true. But really, this is exactly why I'd like to go into self publishing rather than go traditional, or at least at first anyway.

Sparkfire sounds redundant though, but I guess it goes well if you think Spark has a fiery spirit. I think Sparkstorm would've worked best, in memory of Sandstorm, but also because she's been mentioned to be fast.

But really, this is exactly why I'd like to go into self publishing rather than go traditional, or at least at first anyway. As someone who is being traditionally published by a big five publisher, I can tell you it's not normally like that. Normally you work with your editor and decide things together or compromise, etc. Warriors is different because there's a whole team of editors and writers behind it that all have a say over what is going into it, some more than others. The series is more so owned by the ones who pitched it--i.e. the editors and the publisher, and not the writer, so they have a lot more creative control than a writer who is working their own original idea with an editor. Also, as a side note, self-publishing can pretty much kill any chance of being traditionally published if your book doesn't do extremely well. So if you wanted to self-publishing, which is a job into itself and takes up a lot of money and time, unless you really pay off from it--and with a lot of genres you can't--then agents and traditional publishers might be wary working with you.

Believe me, I've done my research on this. Plenty of research. I am very much aware that not all traditional publishers aren't like that, but I'm still wary nonetheless. Then again, considering I've been trying to get one book done for seven years now (I've tried working on several other stories as well, including short ones), I genuinely believe that self publishing is the best route for me regardless of how I feel about traditional anyway, so it's likely I'll go with that at least as a starting point. Either way, I think I'm beginning to understand how GRRM feels.

Twigbranch, Violetshine, Needletail, and Sparkpelt are all really uninspiring as names. I only really like Alderheart.
I think Sparkfire is as terrible as Sparkpelt, but at least Kate's names don't sound as bland.

Kate should've been the one to name all of the cats. They probably would've had much better names.
