History
Once, there was only one Clan in the forest, a large Clan with no name (since, with only one, they need not differentiate themselves). It was very different from the Clans we know now, but it still followed a rudimentary version of the warrior code, and some of the ranks were the same. However, this Clan had no deputy, and eventually it came to pass that the leader of the Clan died with no obvious successor. Thus, the prominent and ambitious members of the Clans all claimed their right to lead, and in turn divided the Clan's loyalties between them.
With conflict came bloodshed, and before long, separate groups had been chased out or left, settling in the surrounding areas. Determined to reunite the Clan under one leader- and each group certain that the leader would be theirs- the groups continued to fight for many moons. Though they began to realize that reuniting would be impossible, the Clans refused to accept this, and still fought among themselves, refusing to truly become their own Clans under the false hope that the first Clan would come to be again. Yet, as seasons passed and they were not reunited, those who even remembered the original Clan began to die off, leaving a generation of cats who knew only their own Clans. Still, the Clans continued to fight, if only because that hostility was the only thing they had ever known.
Eventually, the members of each Clan started to become weak and sick, some even succumbing to the mysterious illness, which medicine cats could not identify. Now, the Clans' hostility began to abate, and desperate to find a cure to the sickness, they even began to work together, medicine cats sharing tips and knowledge in an attempt to find the cure. Moons passed and cats died, but no herb seemed to work. All hope seemed lost, until their ancestors came in a dream to all the medicine cats. They told them that only working together completely, sharing not only knowledge but herbs, could they find the cure. The medicine cats awoke, and decided that they would each find an herb which was unique to their territory. They and the rest of their Clans would meet on the next full moon night with as much of their respective herbs as they could carry, and there they would mix the cure.

The following full moon, the Clans met again to share news of the cure's status, which had miraculously worked. In honor of the cure that saved them and brought them together, they agreed to meet every full moon from then on in peace. Furthermore, each Clan took on the name of the herb they contributed to the cure, as a badge of honor for the part they played. And finally, the rank of deputy was added and the warrior code amended, so that the problems that caused the original Clan to split would never again occur. And thus, the modern Clans were born.
About the Clan
YarrowClan is made up of cats who are swift runners, as well as clever and cunning strategists in all aspects of life from hunting to fighting to social interaction. The cats of this Clan, while not weak by any means, are not built for strength or endurance: instead, their muscle is lean and agile, meant instead for balance, twisting and turning, and bursts of speed.
Though the cats of YarrowClan can range in size quite considerably, they tend to be on the larger side- or, at least, they are tall, even if rather wiry. Rarely will you see a cat in YarrowClan who is especially stout or broad-shouldered; those who are, are likely of mixed blood. Though cats on the smaller end of the spectrum are not altogether rare, cats tend to be medium-sized or larger; this is because in an open territory such as YarrowClan's, cats who are very small make easy prey for hawks, owls, and other birds of prey. They tend to have thick, long fur, narrow legs, and long tails. Many cats also have tufted ears, a trait which is mostly unique to YarrowClan. In color, they tend to be pale and bright colors- white, tawny, ginger, and so on- and with faint markings, though cats with darker pelts or bolder markings do occur. The most common eye color is amber, and more than half the cats in the Clan at any given time will likely have this eye color.
In personality, YarrowClan is viewed as being a rather "sneaky" set of cats. This may seem odd, as their territory is so bright and open one would think it would reflect a forward and honest group of cats. Of course, this isn't necessarily not the case. The reputation of YarrowClan cats to be sneaky stems from their skill in strategy, which is necessary for all aspects of a YarrowClan cat's life. After all, with little to no undergrowth to hide them, a cat must carefully plan their route when stalking prey, and when fighting, they must be able to figure out how to outsmart their opponent since they lack the strength and endurance for drawn-out wrestling. They also tend to carefully craft their words, actions, and general movements when interacting with others, often with the interests of furthering their own goals. This, plus their natural secrecy, contributes to the stereotype that YarrowClan cats are manipulative and always have some kind of ulterior motive.
Besides that, YarrowClan cats are loyal to StarClan and the warrior code, perhaps even more so than the other Clans. They follow the code fiercely, and their hierarchy is strictly adhered to. Disobedience and challenging of the authority is only acceptable if it is very strongly founded, and though YarrowClan cats are taught to have absolute obedience to their superiors, they also believe in challenging bad leadership and standing up for what one believes in.

☼ Use common sense. Obey forum rules, don't troll, be respectful, don't steal other peoples' ideas, don't control or kill other peoples' characters (without their permission), etc. etc.
☼ Keep characters realistic- this goes for appearance, personality, history, and all that good stuff. For appearance, if you can't find a non-edited picture of it somewhere it probably doesn't exist. Some stretches of the imagination are possible (ie a gray cat with black spots or a calico tom) but some things are not. Cats will not have red or purple eyes, or blue pelts. They won't glow or glitter, and they won't have markings like a perfect star on their forehead or a perfect heart on their flank. As for personality, try to keep their reactions and motivations consistent and based in reality- they will have strengths and weaknesses, and reasons for doing the things they do.
☼ Staying at a minimum literacy level is also important for keeping this roleplay going and enjoyable for all. This is a semi-literate roleplay, meaning that good (albeit not perfect) grammar is needed, as well as a minimum average of three lines per post. So, not every post has to be exactly three lines- some should be more, and sometimes they can be less depending on the situation. Just try to keep three lines as your soft minimum. As for grammar, I would count good grammar, at its lowest level as being consistent minor grammatical mistakes (forgetting some commas or occasionally using the wrong punctuation), with more noticeable mistakes (just as run-on sentences or major misspellings) being present but rare. Some Clans might have slightly higher standards, so be sure to double-check a Clan's rules before joining!
☼ Plots are important for keeping a roleplay interesting and progressing, so please, please, please plot away! However, for things which will affect the entire Clan, make sure to ask the owner of that Clan, as well as the controllers of any involved characters, before commencing with a plot. For plots which would affect two, three, or all Clans, make sure the owners of all relevant Clans are okay with it. Personal plots between a pair of characters or a small group of characters, which will not affect the Clan in any major or devastating way, does not necessarily need approval- however, if the owner of the Clan asks for the plot to be stopped, please stop. I would also encourage you to be more creative with your personal plots than just forbidden romances and similarly common themes- a few are fine, but having more than one in each Clan (maybe two max) starts to become rather unrealistic and tedious.
☼ Similar to forbidden romances, I feel there should be a policy on outsiders joining the Clans. As appealing and interesting as this plot can be at times, it can only happen so much before it begins to feel unrealistic. Thus, I would make a loose guideline for it. Firstly, only one cat or group (ie, two or three littermates, or a queen and her kits, etc. etc.) may join any Clan every three in-game moons that pass. A single Clan may also not accept outsiders more than once every 12 in-game moons. Exceptions to this rule can be made when necessitated by plot, when the incidents of outsiders joining are somehow related (ie, "abandoned" kits are found and brought to the Clan. 4 moons later, the mother realizes what happens and decides she would also like to join the Clan), or when it just makes a lot of sense/works very well with the roleplay (this would be determined by roleplay events, and not by plotting alone).
☼ Activity is also important for keeping a roleplay running smoothly, or running at all. Because activity tends to wax and wane based on the interest and real-life of those involved, there won't be a set time limit on how often you have to be on. Instead, we expect you to be on frequently enough to make a decent roleplay post every 5 pages or less, at a minimum (a decent roleplay post being one which is at least three lines; chatting posts, and posts shorter than this, don't count). If you fail to do this (without an adequate excuse) you will be given a warning. After 5 warnings, you may be removed (at the discretion of the owner of the Clan in question). If you fail to make a decent roleplay post for 15 consecutive pages (again, without a decent excuse) you may also be removed at the discretion of the Clan owner. Rules for those who have high ranks, or are relevant to important plots, are slightly stricter. Instead of being removed after 15 pages, you will lose your rank after 10 pages of absence, or after 3 incidents of not being present (within a reasonable time frame) when needed for plot reasons (ie, a medicine cat being required for an injury, or a leader needed to make an important decision). If you think this may be a problem for you, you may mitigate it by assigning that important character an alternate roleplayer- someone who you allow to temporarily play that character when you are not on for a long time, for the sake of resolving immediate plots only (ie, a medicine cat treating a wound). You don't have to assign an alt.rper., but you may if you choose.
☼ Finally, a rule on chatting. You are expected to separate your OOC talk from your roleplaying using brackets, parentheses, or some similar and obvious method. Please be nice out of character, even if your characters don't get along- if you have an OOC problem with someone, and cannot resolve it like an adult, please ask a moderator for help. A small amount of chatting on roleplay pages is acceptable, especially if paired with continued roleplaying. However, for conversations that are more than 5 posts long, please take it to the Chatting & Planning Page (currently this page) if it is relevant to the roleplay, or to PM (or a personal thread) if it is not related.

☼ Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.
☼ Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory.
☼ Elders, queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating.
☼ Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
☼ A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
☼ Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
☼ A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
☼ The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires or is exiled.
☼ After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
☼ A Gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.
☼ Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.
☼ No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.
☼ The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code.
☼ An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win their battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.
☼ A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.
☼ Each Clan has the right to be proud and independent, but in times of trouble they must forget their boundaries and fight side by side to protect the four. Each Clan must help the others so that no Clan will fall.

Territory
YarrowClan's territory is mostly open meadows and moors, but with some forest and copses of trees. The small forests on YarrowClan territory are mostly young and open, lacking a lot of undergrowth, and so moving there is not all that much different than in the meadows. YarrowClan's territory is split roughly in half by a stream, which in turns splits as it nears the river. One branch runs deeper into JuniperClan territory, while the other forms the border between YarrowClan and JuniperClan, until it runs farther south and meets the river. Though it is mostly flat and open, YarrowClan's territory has several landmarks which break up the territory and help cats to know where they are.
☼ The camp is located roughly in the middle of the territory, north of the camp and just south of the Ditch. It is in a small grove of trees, protected by large boulders.
☼ The Ditch is north of the camp, near the river. It is a small hollow, the east side being a rocky and steep slope, which sweeps down and levels out to be about even with the rest of the territory. The bottom of the hollow, near the rocks, is sandy and covered with sparse grasses. It's a good place for cats to train for combat, since they can practice climbing as well as running, and the ground is soft.
☼ The Bridge is just east of the Ditch. It is a twoleg bridge which extends over the river, leading from Twolegplace on the other side. A walking trail comes out from the bridge, heading due south and into JuniperClan territory. The grass between the path in the river is luscious, and many wading birds, as well as mice and squirrels, nest and forage here. This area between the river and the path, called the Riverbank Clearing, is a disputed territory between JuniperClan and YarrowClan, and they fight over it frequently.
☼ Deadtree is west of the Ditch, sitting lonely in the middle of the field. It is a tall, old tree. As the name implies, it is dead, but it has managed to remain standing. The meadow around the tree is a good place to find rabbits and mice, as well as small birds, but cats should be careful- a pair of hawks nest in the tree, and while they usually don't bother the cats, they have been known to carry away small apprentices, and kits who wander out of camp.
☼ About halfway down the stream is the waterfall. It's a very small fall, probably only about twice as tall as a cat, but cats still need to be careful not to slip, as the rocks could badly injure a cat as it goes over the falls. The fall marks the border between YarrowClan and JuniperClan: on the north side of the stream, everything downstream from there belongs to JuniperClan.
☼ On the southern side of the stream is another meadow, and in the meadow is a large stone jutting from the ground. It is near as tall as a tree, and mostly smooth, but because of its angle it is fairly easy to climb. This is called the Outcrop. It's a good place for sunning, and from the top it provides a spectacular view of the surrounding meadow, and of the sunrises and sunsets. It's also fairly safe, since there are no hiding places for snakes.
☼ Where the stream joins with the river, there is a pile of boulders which nearly blocks the water from meeting the river. These rocks are called Riverstones. They can be used as stepping stones to get from one side of the river to the other, as the gap where the water flows through is easy for adult cats to jump. JuniperClan and YarrowClan frequently fight over ownership of the stones. The Riverstones are fairly close to the Greenleaf Twolegplace which sits in JuniperClan territory, so cats must be cautious of twolegs and their dogs.

Camp
As mentioned above, YarrowClan's camp is located in a copse of trees which is protected by several large, jagged boulders. Like the rest of the territory, the trees around the camp lack undergrowth to hide the camp or form dens. Thus, the camp is constantly guarded by at least two warriors, and over time cats have built up sections of a small wall (about a tail-length high) of sticks, rocks, and some bones, which offers some protection. The eastern side of camp is protected by large boulders, while the northern side is protected by a fallen tree, the gap underneath which has been reinforced by weaving its smaller branches together. The western side of camp is mostly protected by the "wall," while the southern side is the "entrance," and is guarded the most heavily. ☼ The fresh-kill pile is near the back of the camp from the entrance, sheltered by some of the branches of the fallen tree so as to keep vultures and other predators away, and to keep it out of the sun so it doesn't rot. A small hollow has been dug in the ground to keep the prey cooler than if it stayed on the warm surface.
☼ The leader's den is in the eastern side of camp, near the opening. It is a small cave which is formed by two of the boulders leaning against each other. The floor has been dug out to make it larger, forming a space large enough for about five cats to fit into very snugly. The leader makes announcements from a ledge that juts out a few tail-lengths above their den. This ledge is called the Sky Ledge.
☼ The warriors' den is in a large burrow dug into the roots of a pine tree which sits next to the opening. The entrance is fairly large so that cats can get in and out easily, especially in case of an attack. The den itself is short- only about three tail-lengths tall- but very wide, with the roots from the tree above forming support as pillars curving down the walls and through the middle of the den. Cats make their nests in the spaces between the roots, leaving narrow walkways so cats can easily get through the den.
☼ The apprentices den is near the warriors', but closer to the western wall. It is another burrow, this one dug beneath a small boulder. Like the warriors' den, it is short but wide, with alcoves dug in the walls for nests. The center is left open and bare, that way apprentices can still practice stalking and fighting even when the weather is too harsh.
☼ The nursery is the safest den, a small cave in the rocks in the northeastern corner of the camp. The natural cave is well protected, its entrance partially hidden by the branches of the fallen tree trailing over the stones. A smooth stone slopes gently down from the entrance, and is a good place for queens to sun and for kits to play.
☼ The elders' den is near the nursery, in the tangled branches of the fallen tree. A wide, protected den has been cleared out of the middle, sheltered from the rain and snow but allowing in enough sunlight for lush grass to grow and for the den to be pleasantly warm.
☼ The medicine den is on the other side of the elders' den, nestled in the roots of the fallen tree. The roots arch over the ground to form a safe and protected shelter, and part of the tree trunk has begun to be hollowed out to store herbs in.
