about so basically, if you haven't caught my wave yet (the eighties, upside down text, references to rural Indiana, strange things happening), this roleplay is based off of 'Stranger Things,' the hit Netflix show. I liked the idea of a retro-ish murder-mystery-supernatural roleplay with a cool fashion aesthetic, so I went with it. and, since I find large-scale threads overwhelming, I'm making this a small group. no and's, if's, or but's. I won't budge on the number of people I've chosen to allow.
though I'm not going to make it mandatory that you've seen the show, I strongly suggest that you at least read a series summary/watch trailers/listen to soundtracks, simply for the sake of trying to get at the vibe I'm trying to reach with this roleplay. think of: government secrets, small town betrayal, a search for the truth, perhaps some supernatural elements--all underlined by an endearing sense of adolescence throughout. the rules I don't have many rules. first and foremost, though, have some degree of common sense. be respectful of forum rules and of other members. keep this kid appropriate. don't be stupid. hopefully this should be intuitive enough to all of you, but, Lord knows there's some fools out there.
what I will emphasize, though, are two things: literacy and activity.
I want this to be a really advanced (600-800 + word replies, at the very least. check my recent roleplay posts for an idea) roleplay. absolutely no one-liners will be allowed. of course, there's exceptions for length in high-action or dialogue-heavy scenes, but don't get used to too short of posts here. take these replies seriously. make art. be collaborative. build off each other.
as far as activity goes, I won't be the most active myself, so I won't enforce that everyone else has to be. but, I will suggest that you post at least two or three roleplay responses per week, at the very minimum. if you've got life stuff going on, I understand, and that is your first priority--but let us know if you're gonna dip for a while. the form I'll go ahead and post the character form here, but you should really send me a private message with a roleplay sample first--and when I say really, I mean that I emplore you to. like I need to approve your roleplaying ability before you even think about posting here. got it? good. here you go.
a note about characters, though: they will be teenaged, preferably in their later years of high school (think 16-18 years old). they're still kind of kids. make sure your characters have some flaws--I included them in their roles, but feel free to build off the role (it's just a template to create some basic group dynamics). and all of our characters are plain Jane human beings, so please, keep appendages and eye colors normal. thank you.

[ wizard ] dignified && charismatic && insecure
Full Name: Brendon Sterling Beck | Date of Birth: 12/25/1966 | Weight: 172 lbs | Height: 6' 1" | Eye Color: hazel | Hair Color: blond |
GPA: 3.96 out of 4.0
BRIEF SUMMARY: As the eldest son of the town's premier lawyer, Brendon carries himself with both dignity and caution. Though he is certainly suave and poised, he is also guarded, revealing very little of his inner thoughts with those around him. He lives to please anyone and anything; failure is simply not acceptable.
EXTRA INFORMATION:
- This young man is certainly a handsome one. With his unusual height, lanky muscular build, and a head full of golden curls, he is considered quite the eye candy of Ridgeview High. Top it off with a straight-toothed smile and his bright future, and most girls call him marriage material at the age of eighteen.
- His personal style is definitely more on the preppy/professional end of the spectrum; he is usually seen in collared shirts, polo shirts, sweaters, and slacks. It is uncertain if he even owns a pair of blue jeans.
- Much of his self-worth comes from his intellect. Brendon comes from a household that values academic performance above everything else, so his grades and attendance are near perfect. He also is the president of the Ridgeview student body and the chair of the community service club.
- Brendon is secretly, but most definitely both anxious and depressed. Years of emotional abuse from his father (who he fears and loathes) has left him with cripplingly low self-esteem, and he is almost always stressed about straying from his future, which has already been planned out for him: undergraduate and law school at Harvard, with the intention of taking over the Beck firm one day.
- He suffers from insomnia, has a caffeine addiction (avid tea drinker), and has undiagnosed stomach ulcers that flare up during times of exceptional stress. He's also slowly coming to terms with his bisexuality, but is both deeply ashamed of it and closeted.
- He is the master of managing the perfect facade through it all, though; he isn't close enough to most of his friends for them to know what he's really going through.
- Brendon absolutely treasures his younger brother, Casey (x), a soft, skinny, effeminate little thing. The two make a wonderful, loving pair of siblings.
- At his school, Brendon is the captain of the debate team (which, as he always likes to mention, is at its peak success in the school's history). He is also the treasurer for the school government.
- His face claim is Oliver Altman (x ; x).

Full Name: Gretchen Clarke | Date of Birth: 9/26/65 | Weight: 120 lbs | Height: 5' 4" | Eye Color: brown | Hair Color: black |
GPA: 3.0 out of 4.0
BRIEF SUMMARY: While sometimes her tongue and actions may get away from her, there is no denying the fact that quiet Gretchen Clarke certainly does her best to keep her mouth shut, and her nose where it belongs- in her own business. Having grown up in a dingy little house with no one but her parents, she's used to living independent from her peers, and to no-one's surprise, is perfectly content to remain that way.
EXTRA INFORMATION:
- An innately small girl of eighteen, Gretchen possesses a build often hidden beneath baggy clothes and heavy boots. With a love of turtle-neck sweaters, she isn't often seen wearing anything but, along with a jean jacket to keep away the cold.
- If the need to carry an inventory arises, Gretchen can be found with a brown leather satchel, which usually contains a bit of money, a pair of gloves, a flashlight with an extra pack of batteries, and a pocket knife.
- Known for her quiet demeanor and solitary ways, there are some who say that the girl's personality boarders something demure, but of which can easily morph into sudden, near uncharacteristic actions brought on by poor impulse control.
- While she carries within herself a good set of morals, it isn't always likely that she will go out of her way to act upon them. Preferring to stay out of situations she deems bigger than herself, it is sometimes a challenge to convince her to get out of her shell, and do the good required of her. Still, she will do her best once she has been thoroughly convinced.
- She is known to habitability keep her head down, her eyes on the floor, and her hands occupied in some way or another. It is rare that she takes comfort in looking at those with whom she speaks, and as such, it is uncommon for her to make eye contact with others.
- Her face-claim is Fernanda Oliveira.

Full Name: Charles Fitzgerald | Date of Birth: 02/13/1966 | Weight: 141 lbs | Height: 5' 8" | Eye Color: brown | Hair Color: brown |
GPA: 3.27 out of 4.0
BRIEF SUMMARY: He's like an appendix, you can't quite figure out how he works. Often described as a natural extrovert. Charlie is brimming with energy, sensation-seeking, and unaffected in just about everything he undertakes. He's always difficult to ignore. He's a good-hearted person and and deeply attracted to his family, desiring nothing more then their happiness and comfort (one word: hugs for days). In turn, Charlie also requires profound love and a large amount of emotional support. He has a tendency to be sassy and foul-mouthed, shooting back and forth with others easily and almost naturally.
EXTRA INFORMATION:
- Face claim is Tom Holland ( x , x )
- His family is large, almost comically. He has both parents and four siblings (one older, three younger) and multiple aunts and uncles with many cousins. They all get along exceptionally, despite this Charlie hardly brings anyone around to meet them intentionally. Something about it ruining the mystery.
- One of his comedic tools is when he brings up a allegory revolving around his family. Uncle Steve and Uncle Donald hi-jinks are his favorite themes, intentionally says well-known proverbs very wrong after each story.
- His mother is Mary Nicole, father Gary. His older brother is James (two years+), his younger brothers are Christopher and Robert (both -three years) and Thaddeus (-five years).
- Charlie “I can eat all 24 these cookies in one sitting” Fitzgerald.
- Charlie “Eighteen in and I have made a mistake” Fitzgerald.
- Charlie “Whines on the couch loud enough that everyone in the house can hear” Fitzgerald.
- Charlie “Finished the last six cookies an hour later because I am not a quitter” Fitzgerald.
- Charlie "My Uncle challenged me to do this" Fitzgerald.
- Is a bad student with good grades.
- Literally never does homework.
- Stayed up all night researching irrelevant to the subject information.
- Constantly daydreaming in class and fell asleep. But when called on can spout a bunch of random facts on the spot.
- Mastered look of Hardcore Focusingtm but really wondering why Cinderella's shoe fell off.
- His family can no longer play Clue together because Uncle Clifford (who claims to be a CIA Agent) always finds out who does it in half an hour.
- James eats only Froot Loops and cold pizza for breakfast every morning when he visits from college. The Fitzgerald family will never understand.
- Aunt Natalie consistently shows up at the Fitzgerald residence with homemade cookies. They're her own recipe that she never shares, and everyone is willing to fight to the death to secure their fair share.
- Chris is no longer allowed to bring kazoos and giant foam fingers to the dinner table.
- Whenever Charlie can't find any of his siblings he will start singing "Carry On My Wayward Son" or "Never Gonna Give You Up" at the top of his lungs. All he has to do is wait for the thudding footsteps, or pause and hear them yelling back lyrics.
- This now has moved onto his friend group but they haven't caught on. They just think he likes those songs (Charlie actually despises them but they are catchy).
- Mama Fitzgerald is an excellent cook. Sure, she's made some questionable dishes after reading a FOOD article one day, but everything she makes is usually amazing. She's the only one who knows how to use every single tool in the kitchen, and owns even more obscure ones like the butter churner and nutmeg mill.
- She's always asking Charlie to brings friends over for dinner. He politely declines this offer.
- Thaddeus is the messiest of them all. No one (besides mom and dad) has the heart to confront him about it. He leaves dirty dishes in the sink, leaves his books all over the place, and doesn't pick up his shoes.

Full Name: Gerald Amsel Forst | Date of Birth: 08/02/1965 | Weight: 147 lbs | Height: 5' 11" | Eye Color:Brown | Hair Color:Brown |
GPA: 2.90 out of 4.0
BRIEF SUMMARY: Gerald is a generic teenage boy, or at least a generic-looking, leather jacket toting, Eastlands boot wearing, left earring wearing teenage boy. Yeah, okay, his style may not be totally generic, but this brown eyed boy is an average teenage boy, if his style was a bit more toned down he'd be incredibly easy to overlook in a crowd, is what I'm getting at. On top of this, the personality that goes into the outfits he wears is this smooth-talking, stoic-looking, curious young man, who has a comment for everything.
EXTRA INFORMATION:
- Gerald totally has a thing for trying to do exactly the opposite of what everyone is doing, except he always ends up being a part of the crowd that looks exactly like him.
- Constantly in the shadow of his brother, he gives of the facade that he doesn't care that his brother, in the eyes of his family, is better than him
- He's actually really smart, a good test taker and amazing at conning others into doing his homework for him. If it weren't for the amount of time he spends sulking in the corner or spouting sarcastic remarks, he might even have a four point zero.
- Face claim is Gerald Earl Gillum ( x , x )
- If it doesn't benefit him, he's probably not going to do it, tbh.
- As Amsel means Blackbird in German, his mothers pet name for him is her little blackbird - much to his dismay.
- His middle name is his mothers maiden name.
- His family is larger than the average four person family, but only by the addition of two people (at least, that's if you only count those who live under his roof). It's him, his big brother Sebastian (an army medic/the favorite son), his mom Dorothy Amsel Forst, and his father Walther Forst, his moms dad Gerald Amsel, and his baby sister Michelle Forst.
- His favorite sibling is Michelle because she can't talk yet; she's a cutie with only a little bit of hair, which is worrying his folks because Michelle is almost three and still has only so much hair, but she looks real cute in onesis and bowties.
- Sebastian is the favorite son, he joined the U.S. Army in order to get his medical degree. He's several years older than Gerald.
- Gerald is named after his mother's father, Gerald Amsel; his first name is the same as his grandfather and his middle name is his mothers maiden name, grandfathers Surname.
- He cares aboutf his family, despite his jealousy of his older brother.
- His friendships are important to him. He's been friends with James Montgomery and Douglas Tate since freshman year and they still spend a lot of time together, but since the start of senior year they've began to go their separate ways. He's not friendly with many other people.
