hey! so i want to start a little rp based on the comic series by evan dorkin, beasts of burden. i cant believe more people don't know about it, it would seriously appeal to any people who like warriors (not to mention the art and dialogue is TOP NOTCH) (here is one of the comics in the anthology! it comes after the intial expository stories, but its one of the best comics of the series and gives yo the general idea)
edit: i found some more stories! dark horse has put out 3 of them for free here! just click previous/next
its basically about a group of animal paranormal investigators, if that makes sense? its not goofy in the scooby-doo way, but seriously scary and messed up sometimes. there is this society called the wise dogs, which are kind of like protectors, or a group of, well, wise dogs. (and one cat!) they help keep the paranormal away from this small town called burden hill, and occasionally enlist new members. (here is the wikipedia article on the series, but i highly suggest buying the hardcover collection of a few of the stories, animal rites) but here are the basics/some ideas:

(here is the wikipedia article on the series, but i highly suggest buying the hardcover collection of a few of the stories, animal rites) but here are the basics/some ideas:
- a few groups: the wise dogs society (nobly-inclined), witches familiars (evilly-inclined), and neuteral groups (house pets and strays who are not a part of either group)
- a weekly (or bi-weekly? monthly?) "bad guy" (a different monster or paranormal thing) everyone (usually wise dogs, but everyone can chip in!) has to work towords defeating.
- wise dogs work to defeat the monster, while witches familiars work to use the monster to defeat the wise dogs
- something (prestige? special items?) should be rewarded to those who acomplish their goal
- in order to keep it fair, there should be a rule implementing who wins against the monster and who doesnt (maybe one of the heads flips a coin or uses a generator each month/week)
- players can create their own mini-plots and things between the large plots if they are so inclined, but dont gain anything from them
- maybe scrap the tabletop rpg-format of the monsters and instead make it more of large, longer plots that work towords the final battle over a few days or weeks?
- limited slots for wise dogs and familiars, unlimited for strays (who can earn their rank by making a plot for their character to do something impressive to join)
- in any case, here are the three groups i was thinkin of:
WISE DOGS:
- mostly dog slots, one or two cat slots? if you start as a stray, you have to do something remarkable to be a wise dog if you are a cat
- can use magic, have to make their own materials for spells, and if not trained, the spells have less potency. better at healing and defense spells
- friendlier with house pets than strays, but of course there are exceptions
- characters have a job within the wise dogs, and rotate duties throughout the week(s?)
- to summon wise dogs you aren't familiar with, your characters have to howl/caterwaul for three nights (you can timeskip this)
- help me come up with more!
FAMILIARS:

THE FULL COMIC FOR "LOST", ONE OF THE BEST STORIES OF THE SERIES (tw for animal abuse and death and gore, but thats throughout the whole series)
- almost exclusively cats, and exclusively female, unless you are a errand-runner. they are starting to take in dogs, however, due to dwindling numbers
- originally witches led them there to summon sekhemet, but they failed, and now live to destroy burden hill and its inhabitants for revenge
- have more acsses to materials to preform magic, and are more powerful at attack skills
- less powerful when seperated
- more??
NEUTRAL (STRAYS/PETS)
i was thinking we'd be more chill with our activity requirements, but people would still have to have proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and to put a little effort into what they write
also, i wold really need one to two more people to help plan/curate this rp! i am starting school soon, and its my junior year, so i probably will be busy a lot!
- no magic skills unless trained by wise dogs or familiars
- can ally themselves with either group, but cannot join unless approved by members (preform a thing in rp)
- more?
