((Oh my gosh, I'm not alone. ;-; At least you moved on? XD Sadly, everyone knew when I liked a guy because I was very vocal about it. XD
JACK.))
Nyx looked at the picture on his phone, and it was all she could do to not squeal loudly at the cuteness. "Oh my gosh, look at how cute she is! Look at those ears! Those eyes! The fluff..." she needed to convince her parents to get her a puppy. "Raven? I love that name. It makes her sounds really cool. We need to go see her ASAP.... Well, after school and whatever else, anyway."
"I hope so." Being an only child meant that Raiden and Clay were as close to siblings as Nyx would probably ever get. She certainly saw the both of them as such.
Speaking of Raiden, Nyx saw him approaching before he could say anything. At first, she wasn't entirely sure she recognized him given the haircut but no, that was definitely Raiden.
"The answer would be know, Rai Rai." Nyx replied. Despite liking being away from the throes of sassy middle schoolers, she was not excited to start this. If it was anything like the movies... well, Nyx would be doomed. She could only hope it would be better and that Hollywood was lying.
When they were younger, she had called him Rai Rai because Raiden had just been too much, so her little kid mind had just doubled Rai. Nyx had had some speech problems when she was little, but had gotten over them with age and some therapy. Nowadays, she just called him it to try and annoy Clay's older brother.

(I never tell anyone XD I just had to make Jack and Raiden friends XD)
Clay laughed. "Yeah, I love her. She's a fluff ball," he said. "Honestly I couldn't ask for a better dog and I'm really excited." Plus Raiden had more friends than Clay, so he felt like he should let his brother have the companionship of a dog instead of Raiden hogging everything. "Yep, come on over whenever. Raiden and my parents love you and then you can meet Raven," he said with a laugh.
"Yup. You better believe Raiden's gonna treat you no differently than if you were his real sister," he promised. Even when Raiden pretended to be annoyed by her, Clay knew his brother loved her. She'd always been Clay's best friend and Raiden was also grateful for that. That she'd been a friend to his brother whenever he needed it.
Raiden laughed when he heard her pull out the old nickname. Clay called him that too, but only in private. When they were out by people, it was Rai. He reached over to ruffle her hair and then went over and ruffled Clay's.
"Ah, don't worry. High school isn't that bad, but high school music is pretty accurate. I hope you got some songs picked out for lunch," he teased. When the movie first came out, he'd done his best to convince Byx and Clay that that was how high school was. They likely didn't believe him anymore but he was still going to mess with Nyx like that.
"So, you need any help?" he asked, moving closer to her and looking for any sign of her schedule. "A tour. Groups to avoid or hang out with. Prepare you for teachers that suck?" he askAnd d. He'd already given Clay the entire rundown beforehand, so he figured it was Nyx's turn to get his services.
Clay rolled his eyes but laughed. "Come on, Rai. I know you don't want to hang out with us. What about Jack and Levi and all your other friends?" he asked.
Raiden shrugged. "I'll see them plenty. This is my only brother's only first day of high school. Not my fault you happen to be with friends so I can offer to help them out."
Clay laughed at his brother's excitement to help.

((Don't. Nothing good happens. XD
I was like "Ugh, Levi" because I got him confused with Carter. XD The dad friend group.))
"Oh, I will. I just have to get my parents to drop me off." Nyx's parents spoiled her, so she couldn't imagine them refusing to let her go over to Clay's. Especially when it was to see a puppy.
"Hey, I worked hard to brush this hair." Nyx said, although her curly brown hair didn't look any different after being ruffled. At least that was one nice thing about having the wild hair she did.
Although Nyx was pretty sure Raiden was messing with them, there was a little bit of her that was worried. She looked at Clay. "Can we do Fruit Salad by the Wiggles? I can dance to that." Otherwise, she was an uncoordinated mess.
"Don't convince him to leave us, Clay! This place is a maze." With her horrible sense of direction, she suspected to get lost for multiple days.
Nyx then looked back up at Raiden. "Everything. We need help with everything. We don't even have our lockers or our schedules!"

(Yeah i mean it was in the bank parking lot so it's not like he wasn't going super fast. I was walking right along the edge of the parking lot like near the building and trying to call my mom (which was hard with the sun on my screen) and I look up and he's head straight at me and then turned away like at the last second :/

(( That guy needs to have his license taken away, Ari. Seriously. He's going to get someone hurt driving like that. I hate negligent drivers. :/ ))
Max's face broke into an excited, eager expression at the mention of one of her favorite things in the whole world: puppies. She loved dogs, absolutely loved them, more than any other animal she had ever encountered. Of course she loved all animals, but dogs were just so awesome. Cute and fluffy and sweet. Besides, she owned a dog herself, a little ball of hyper fluff, and he was her favorite pet in the whole world. "A German Shepherd?" She had repeated, then added quickly, "That's awesome! Raven's such a cool name. I should bring Ranger over. I bet they would get along great." Her dog, Ranger, was super friendly and loved other dogs. He liked to bark, but Max had never once heard him growl or snarl.
Rai wasn't someone Max knew all that well, to be honest. She hadn't joined the group until around age eleven or twelve, a few years ago. Asher had been her only real friend up until Max had met Clay and they had started talking. After Clay, it was Nyx, then the others. Truthfully, Max wouldn't have been so happy if she hadn't met the whole gang. She enjoyed having so many friends to socialize and hang out with.
However, while she didn't know Rai well, that didn't mean she wouldn't talk to him. He had always seemed like a nice guy. Rumor had it that many younger girls had huge crushes on him, but Max couldn't see why. He was nice, but not her type at all. "Yo, Rai," she greeted with a nod of her head, an arm still slung over Clay's shoulder. For other girls, that would have been a sign of flirting. For Max, it was simply a friendly gesture. Nothing romantic about it. She wasn't super touchy-feely, but she did like to stick close to others.
A maze? Max didn't see the school as a maze, exactly, though she could see Nyx's point. "Nah. Don't worry 'bout gettin' lost. Ain't so bad," she replied carelessly. If she got lost, she would just wander around a bit until she found her way again. Although, she did have a question to ask Rai. "Hey Rai, who's the kid with the ugly tattoos?"
The kid in question stood not too far away, near a cluster of lockers, with other kids who looked much less than friendly. His tattoos were ugly---poorly done and no doubt homemade. Max liked tattoos, maybe even wanted to get one if her grandfather allowed it, but his had not been drawn well. Not really a kid, either. He looked older than Rai, with shaggy hair and stubble. Tall, around six foot five. Packed with muscle. Maybe he'd failed a grade.
Or three. Max swore he was at least twenty-one, he looked so old.
The guy's name was Tristan, a huge jerk who actually had failed, though he wasn't quite as old as he looked. Only nineteen. He liked to cause fights, bully kids for fun. The whole stereotypical deal. Real boring mostly, but violent and extremely rude.

(I know. It's so stupid. Like I normally pay attention while I'm walking but (1) the bank parking lot is never busy. Ever. That's probably the second time someone drove through while I was walking and (2) literally one of the first things you learn in drivers ed is don't hit people cause bodies aren't as strong as cars :/)
Clay shook his head. "Don't worry, Nyx. We don't have to dance or sing or anything. Trust me, if Raiden was telling the truth, he wouldn't be nearly as popular as he is. He can't sing or dance." That earned him a light hit in the back of the head, but when Clay turned to look, his brother was smiling his stupid smile.
Clay grinned as she turned his phone around to show Max the picture as well. "She's great. Are you free after school to come visit her too?" he asked. He was sure his parents wouldn't care if he and Raiden brought home a few friends to meet the dog. His dad was out half the time or at work and though his mom got home from work relatively early, she never had any problems with Clay bringing friends home. She must just be glad that he actually had friends and wasn't a total loser.
Raiden laughed when he saw the picture of their new pup on Clay's phone screen. "Been here for what, five minutes, and you're already showing off your dog?" he asked. He shook his head. "Man, Clay. Not seeing your friends for a month really made ya miss them, huh?" he asked. He'd missed his friends as well, but they took that camping trip every summer. Their dad owned an outdoorsy store and thought it was only right that his own sons knew how to navigate the wilderness. Both boys were just happy their father didn't want to make them live off the grid or something. They both liked camping and the outdoors, but were perfectly happy with their current situation.
Raiden's eyes turned to Max, a smile still on his face. "Nice to see at least someone's confident about this year. Plus, it's not that hard once you get used to it. It's basically just a square with hallways going through the middle." It was a bad description by everything made sense. That hard part was that the signs pointing where different room numbers were were wrong half the time and missing rooms the other half. Yeah, their school could use some improvements.
Raiden followed Max's finger towards the young man and he made a face. "That's Tristan. You three better leave him alone cause he's bad news," Raiden shook his head as if he was talking from experience. "Huge jerk that knows how to throw a punch. And I don't want any of you to get involved with him. Not pretty," he muttered. He knew not many people in the school stood a chance against Tristan and he didn't want his brother or Clay's friends to get into trouble, either with Tristan or the school staff.
"Anyway, lockers, schedules, tour?" he asked. Clay had already come by at registration to pick up his stuff. Raiden had convinced him to, knowing it'd be easier on his brother to get stuff ahead of time. If only his friends had come and done the same. "Well, I'd suggest heading down to AP for that. They can help you out with that freshman stuff."
He was glad not to be a freshman anymore. The senior life was treating him well, even if he felt desperately unprepared to move on to college.

((Yeah, they were definitely in the wrong. o.e HORRIBLY in the wrong. I mean.. jeez...))
Nyx sighed in relief. "Clay, you make a really good point." She couldn't remember if she had ever even seen Rai dance, or sing, but she was sure it was true. It was stupid of her to even believe him in the first place. Who actually danced through the hallways of school?
"Ooh, Max please bring your dog, too. We can just have a giant dog party." Well, a two dog party, anyway. But it was still something and it sounded fun and what a better way to end the first day of freshman year than to be loved on by two dogs. Nyx now wanted a dog more than anything. Maybe she could use Clay getting a puppy as fuel to convince her parents, although it still probably wouldn't happen.
Nyx didn't care how simple Raiden thought this place was. She was going to get lost. She wasn't sure how the others felt, but his description just made her more confident in her getting lost, one way or another. Did they mark you as tardy if you were a freshman and you got lost on the first day and couldn't find the room? Nyx really hoped they didn't.
She followed Max's finger over to Tristan, and Nyx's eyes widened. Raiden didn't need to say he was bad news -- it was obvious. "Is he a senior, too?" She asked, her voice quiet because a little bit of her was afraid that he might look up and catch them staring. The last thing Nyx needed on this first day of school was this scary older kid possibly approaching them. He could snap her in half like a twig!
Nyx, in her young middle schooler stupidity, had hung out with the "bad" kids of middle school... although they hadn't been nearly as scary as Tristan. Of course, he was older than their little group and any of the kids that she had hung out with back in middle school. But she remembered getting into some trouble with them (once, she had even ridden in a cop car after doing something illegal. Long story.), and had promised herself to move forward and do better this year. Nyx was going to try and not get into trouble in high school... hopefully.
"Right, we need to do that." Nyx groaned and looked to Max while she fiddled with the strap of her messenger bag backpack. "Did you get that stuff? Do you want to come with me to get it?"
--
Kai laughed at Brooke's mockery of Asher and her pretending to carry on a conversation with him. "He's very talkative today. Hasn't shut up since he got here." He joked, and then secretly regretted his words and hoped that Asher wouldn't punch him for it. Kai was planning on making it at least a week before getting into any kind of fights. His mother was believing in him, and Kai didn't want to let her down.
"Yeah, I'm really afraid of possibly getting trampled. Like, what if you trip? Will they just walk over you?" Kai's worries were obviously insane, but he had had a nightmare about a week ago where he had tripped and been trampled to death by kids worried about getting to their classes on time.
He smiled at her encouraging words, and nodded his head. "Yeah, I guess we've got each other." Boy, Kai was glad that he had managed to make friends with this group the year before. They were friendly and made him feel like part of something -- and they were the longest standing friendships he had.
Driving... dating... working... college. It all sounded too good to be true, and Kai laughed. "Can you believe that just a couple years ago, everyone still believed in cooties? And now we're on our way to becoming adults?"

Nyx was disappointed, but at least she wasn't alone anymore. She just preferred when they were all together and she could hide amongst the others. "Oh well. Wanna come with me to get our lockers and schedules?" That was what she was most afraid of. But before Max could respond, she eats Clay. Nyx's face lit up. "Clay!" She squealed, laughing as Max bumped him in the shoulder. "Oh thank goodness, now we can maybe make like a wedge to move our way through." Nyx and Max were small, and Nyx was personally convinced that they might get trampled trying to get to the office. -- "Brooke, hey." Kai let out a sigh of relief, thankful to have someone other than Kai to talk with. Although he also wasn't much of a talker, he would at least try to carry on a conversation.... unlike Asher. "You don't look scared, like... at all." Maybe since Brooke had been going to this school longer, she has seen the high school at some point or something. Not that Kai was scared, just... nervous. Oh my god, I'm sorry but I'm dead XD))
