The Dragon Rider's Guild---- Welcome ----The era of dragons has just begun. 200 years ago, the first ones appeared in the skies. Their glittering scales and fearsome appearances inspired tales of both great praise and great fear. Some started to worshiped the creatures and some called for the eradication of the great beasts. Battles were fought against the beasts, even won, but it was clear the dragons would win in the end. Too many lives were lost. It was a time of turmoil as the leaders were forced to decide just what to do next.
Many stories split off at this point. Each storyteller loves to put their little twist on things, but here is the truth. The dragon riders were purely accidental. A handful of people managed to bond with dragons or get ahold of their eggs. The bonds between the people and the dragons created a bridge for the two races to communicate, allowing many of the conflicts to settle. After all, dragons are much like people. They can be talked to and reasoned with. Once one battle was done, others started to brew. Each leader was starting to realize just how much power these new people had. How much power they could have. To stop a war, the riders, all six, met together. Their power was far too great to be allied with one race or the other. So, they created a place were dragon riders could help everyone but stay out of political issues.
---- Rules ----Can't be all fun and games.
1) Follow the forum rules. 2) Please make characters with the lore in mind. I know it is a lot to read, but just make sure you know about the basics. Also don't make perfect characters. I think we all know this but still, just don't. 3) There is no need to read all of the lore at once since it would be a lot to read and remember. While it is useful, you could skip reading about every dragon. 4) Don't overpower your character and be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of your character. 5) Nothing over PG-13 please. I worked hard on this thread and don't want it to be deleted. 6) How much to type? How much can you type? I'm not saying you should type only a sentence, but just go with what your comfortable with. Don't stuff with fluff. 7) Check up on the News post before you join. I might post restrictions if we have too many of a rank.

Open Members Zafer needs a dragon Inara needs a rider
** For dwarves and elves, who have a longer life span, take away one zero, ex. 170 years means looks 17 without glamour.
---- Plot ----Main Riders are starting to disappear. Strange thing is, they don't just disappear while on a mission. They disappear when they are at the guild. This is starting to worry the higher ups and they are trying to hide these events.
More will be added as the plot progresses.
Side A couple scarps of paper are nailed on the board. You note some look fancier than others. It is easy to guess which ones will be taken first.
Animals have gone missing in the elven villages at the border. No one can find the culprit taking the livestock. The villagers are worried that soon, it wouldn't just be their livestock taken. They request help killing the creature.

Lore---- Humanoids ---- You open this book to find a small blurb in the prologue. Great! Now you don’t have to read the whole book.
Humans - Humans come in all shapes and sizes. All different colors as well. There seems to be no end to them. As for their nature, they are known to be the bringers of chaos and often band together with their own kind. Their magic harder to handle. The elves hate them and the dwarves stand them.
Dwarves - They are normally short in stature but solid. Darker hair is common but lighter hair is not unheard of. They are surprisingly well-kept and very proud. Never say a dwarf can’t do something. They will try to prove you wrong. They are dedicated and with the strength of mind that not many possess. The dwarves seem to have no outwards hostility towards the other races though some comments about the elves and humans being weak and ‘leggy’ are common terms.
Elves - Elves are surprisingly similar to humans. The real thing that sets them apart is their eyes and ears. Elves have cat like pupils, which help them see in the dark, and also long, pointed ears, which help them...look different. No one really knows where the pointy ears came from. Their looks, especially the face, tends to be very beautiful and lovely, though this is commonly the work of ‘glamours’. Elves are talented in nature and illusion magic. They seem to have a stronger connection to magic than the rest.
Something else - have an idea for another race? It's all fine. I will take most requests.
---- Dragons ----You find this note tucked in a book. Perhaps it is one of the dragon keeper’s notes. Whoever it was wrote in fast scribbles and commonly crossed out their work. This was horrendous! By pure luck, you manage to make out a paragraph.
Wyvern - The largest dragon of all. They have powerful jaws and even more powerful legs, though they only have two. Horns are uncommon; large horns are extremely uncommon. Found in the mountains. Most common colors are shades of brown or shades or green. They are not the most talented flying wise, but they can hold their own in a fight. Rideable.
Eastern - Most common and second biggest. They are the most versatile, able to fight with most of their body. Their tails are barbed, their spine is spiked, they are horns, sharp teeth, and large claws. Their only weakness if their wings. While large and magnificent, they are easily injured and the most open. Mostly red, green, black, or gold, but with dragons, who knows. Rideable.
Asian Lung (Lung for short) - Imperial Lungs have five toes and others have four or three. It is extremely rare to find and bond with an Imperial. They are first, rare, and second, even more proper than the other variants. All Lungs seem to like etiquette and order, as such you must talk respectfully to them. These dragons are strongly connected to water, yet some claim they can also cast curses. They do not breath fire. Rideable when flying.
Hybrids - I would like if you asked me about a hybrid before you post. Please be aware that you must take the good and the bad. If you have a Lung/Eastern cross, be aware that it will not be as strong as a pure Eastern and not have such powerful magic abilities as a Lung.
---- Bonds ----You groan. The dragon keeper went other this topic five times yesterday. Her words still echo in your mind. You quickly snap the book shut and move on.
A bond between a dragon and a humanoid doesn’t magically appear. It slowly forms as the trust between the two grow. You might wonder how you should choose the correct dragon. The answer is simple. You don't. A dragon keeper will give you food and send you off to wander through the dragon pastures. You must wait for a dragon to approach you, but you are allowed to walk around. Sometimes no dragons take a liking to you. It could be because there are none in the pasture that want you or you two just missed each other.
As your bond grows, you may be able to share thoughts and feelings with either other. Usually it is the latter first then the thoughts. Some are able to see though each others eyes. You two can also support each other by sharing energy or magic. The stronger the bond is, the more you can share.
---- Map ---- You spot a large map on a table. It was brown around the edges and smelled stale. Judging by the various notes tacked onto the map and the coloring, it was old. You read the small note, hoping for something interesting.
Overview - The land is set in a small continent surrounded by water. Some ships trade with distant lands. Northern human ports usually accept these ships. Human lands are meadows with small patches of sparse forest. They have many small towns and only one large city. The elven land is south, sitting in an arid land. Their homes are made out of clay and they are quite good at hunting in the night. Dwarves reside in the mountain range to the east of both lands. They have many, many small settlements. Their largest, main one is located north in the outer most mountains of the range, as trading is very fluid here. They even have a market on occasion.
The Guild resides in an old stone fort. The formal way to enter is through a large gate in the front which leads to a green courtyard. People will be practicing or idling around this area. To the left is a large, stone building for meetings, or, more commonly, a mess hall. The mirroring building on the right is the dorms. The higher ranking, the more space you get. Admittedly, no full grown dragon can stay in any room. The stone building with a large tower is were the library and healers reside. The metal workers practice their craft to the side.

The Guild's Members---- Ranks---- Leader - One who decides if the council is split Council - trusted members who decide what to do if crisis strikes. [Ask before] Crafters - Members who can create weapons and armor for the rider and dragon. Healers - members who are talented in healing. Dragon Keepers - members who take care of dragons and tame them. Fighters - These are the rider specially trained to fight and deal with outside threats. When trouble is a foot, they are coming. Though some may be more diplomatic than others. Dragons - Normally stay in the pens and pastures just outside The Keep.
---- Members ------ Leader Malen Yarkin / 340 years / Dwarf Malen is tall for a dwarf, about 4'2", but she is still burly and stout. She is not the lady you want to arm wrestle, unless you like loosing. Her hair is a pure, silvery white, from an unfortunate battle with a necomancer. She has a very friendly face with round cheeks and a bright smile. Her face has freckles streaked across it and she has round, chocolate brown eyes. Her nose is a bit big but nothing out of the ordinary, especially for a dwarf. / Malen was chosen for her work ethic, not her people skills. Not that she has terrible people skills. She is just very bad at hiding her emotions and tends to get a little overdramatic. She can be a bit strict and harsh. Though no one can say she looses her focus. When she wants to get something done, it gets done. She always sees things through until the very end and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. She is also a rather accomplished fighter, though lacks any real dexterity. Strength is her man weapon. Malen was tending to her goats when Gerel, her future wyvern, tried to steal her goats. She picked up a large rock and literally chucked it at the dragon while screaming. Normally, the dragon would have just roasted the dwarf but Gerel found it amusing this little dwarf would though something so useless as a rock at her, a large dragon who could breath fire. For a couple months, Gerel protected Malen and her goats. That was until the suddenly rockslide. It had trapped Malen in her home and killed off her goats. Gerel actually felt Malen panic and had come to dig the dwarf out. After that, Malen and Gerel were an inseparable team. They helped the Dwaren kingdom the best they could. Malen was not open to the idea of the guild at first. She didn't like turning her back on the Dwarven kingdom. However, after a couple of events, she grew to be one of the most adamant supporters of the guild. zero
-- Council
-- Crafters
-- Healers Aleithea Argia (Al)/ 186 years old/ Elf Aleithea is quite tall, being about 5’10 and is very slender with small curves. Her beauty isn’t the typical elf way, with all its serenity and peace. It’s more...angular. She has auburn hair that falls to her waist. She’ll usually pin it up in an elaborate braid or hairstyle to keep it out of the way when she’s working. Aleithea has a strong bone-structure with high cheekbones and a strong jaw. She has light brown-amber colored eyes that no matter how hard she tries, show her feelings. Her skin is naturally a sun-kissed light beige, but is a golden tan from being in the sun. She has tiny freckles all over her shoulders and cheeks that she hates. Aleithea will usually wear a nature-colored tunic/dress with long sleeves and a leather corset-type thing over it filled with little pockets. She’ll put herbs in the tiny pockets and little healer runes in a velvet pouch she carries on her waist. Under her tunic/dress she’ll wear leggings and leather boots. (For the whole outfit, think Tauriel in the Hobbit movies.)/ Aleithea is..bold to say the least. Some may say feisty, as she always has a witty or sharp comeback to anything. She is very, very talkative, and is just content with having a good conversation. Aleithea is loyal to the very core of her being, and has the best intentions (even when things go wrong). She is not afraid to say what she thinks, and is very emphatic about her beliefs. Aleithea can get very frazzled and stressed easily, however, and tends to snap at people. Oddly enough, she is good under pressure. Aleithea was found by the Guild when she was younger. Her father had been killed by other Outsiders when they were traveling, and from then on, she swore to care for the Guild as best she could. Having an innate ability of healing and light magic, she decided to become a healer. She is a bit vain about her appearance.. // Pumpkin Pepper <3 //
-- Dragon keepers Zafer Kirmak / 176 years / Elf Zafer is certainly a elf but he has some human blood as well. It doesn't effect him much but he is shorter than the average elf and doesn't have as long or as pointed ears. Instead his ears just look like pointed human ears. His eyes are still cat-like and they are blue-grey. Instead of being built and long-legged, he has a rather short, but lean body from running after all the dragons. His occupation also leaves him with small cuts, and calluses on his feet and hands. His skin is a warm chestnut naturally but has gotten slightly darker due to how the bulk of his time is spend outside. His black hair falls about shoulder length and often it is in a ponytail. No one seems to notice any of these features first. The thing they notice first is his missing, left arm. He only has half of his upper arm left, but he seems to manage fine. / Zafer is a quiet person, one half due to shyness and the other half due to intimidation. He doesn't know much about the human or dwarf world. He is getting better at talking to others, but still remains quiet for the most part. He loves to learn about new things and can often get grabby or curious. He still likes adventures, if there is a promise of something new. He likes to learn new information or do things, but only at his own pace. He does get a little overwhelmed at times. If too much is put on him, Zafer is likely to get overwhelmed and shut down. Shutting down for him is running off to hang around some dragons. He doesn't try to talk or bond with them. Just sit in the sun. He likes not having to read people, which he isn't the best at. He lost his arm when he was playing near the river bank as a child, so about 100 years. Him and his friends were playing hide-and-seek and he didn't look in the reeds before entering. Turned out there was a very hungry alligator waiting. He doesn't remember much between that and waking up. For several years, he had moped as there wasn't much you could do one handed. He had tried and failed to do many simple tasks. That was until his mother had suggested the guild when they had come. They would accept him. He took it up and promised to send money back. He doesn't have much talent for other forms of magic, but is fairly good at illusion magic. Zafer tends to stay up until the early morning then sleep til noon.
-- Fighters Bjorn Ashinman / 26 years / Human At first glance, this human looks pretty normal. He has an average height, maybe a couple inches shorter, and normal dark brown hair. His wide, hazel eyes are normal as well. His build is slightly curvy for a male, but this is most likely because of his lack of food. The only thing which stand out is his various scars covering body. Most of them are small nicks. None of them seem life threatening. // Bjorn is a hard one to crack. He doesn't actually say his true opinion or show his true feelings. most of the time, he wears a smile and stays friendly. He tries his best to be charming, though not many find it so. Really, he is just trying to get by without drawing too much attention. He does like people and to be around others. However, crowds worry him as he hopes no one will recognize him. Bjorn was born to a fairly well-off family in one of the larger cities. His family name is recognizable among the humans. Not like he uses the name much anymore. In his teens, he stole for the fun of it. Bjorn wasn't very good either. He manage to steal from a couple houses but got caught on one of his trickier houses. He couldn't pay it off and once things started to get heated, he claimed he was a dragon rider. Dragon riders can't be punished by someone not in their fraction. He was delivered to the Keep and made to work. // zero //
-- Dragons Inara / 170 years old / Imperial Lung Inara is a massive creature, one of the largest lungs. Her glittering golden scales have not dulled a fraction over her many years. Her horns are long and ivory. Her feathers, lining her back and her legs, are also an ivory. Her whiskers start out golden but fade to a golden color. Her amber eyes are still sharp and full of life. This is not a dragoness to underestimate. / Inara knows what she wants and she will get it. She will use whatever force necessary to achieve her goals. Not like she uses much force. Inara likes to wait and watch for the opportunity to strike. She likes to think herself elegant. If anyone says differently, well, they won't be forgotten or forgiven. Inara will hound her enemies to the end of days. Thankfully, she can be bought over by treasure. Yes, she loves gold and how it matches her scales. She will do anything for it or anything she deems valuable. // zero //
Gerel / 24 years / Wyvern
Gerel is an averaged sized Wyvern with nothing out of the ordinary proportion wise. She has the massive wings with the movable, ivory talon at the end. Her scales are a slate grey and the spikes lining her back are a dark black. She does not have horns on her head but her scales seem to be longer and sharper around her head. Her eyes are a bright golden color. / Gerel seems to be the opposite of her dwarf. She is calm and almost never talks. She actually seems to be more wild than tame. She doesn't do things for others. She is very self-serving and the only one she really gets up and does stuff for is Malen. Even then, it takes lots of encouragement. The only thing that fires her up is a fight. She will not hold back.
// zero //
Sarayu/ 10 years old/ Eastern
Sarayu is a powerfully built dragon with promise of becoming one of the largest dragons of his species. He is a dark navy blue, so dark it’s almost black. In the light, his scales glimmer into an almost cobalt blue. He has slanted, cat-like silver eyes. He has trouble with his newly-acquired size, and has huge feet. The undersides of his wings are the same silver as his eyes, and he has silver talons. He is built for speed./ Sarayu is naturally inquisitive, and he loves to explore. He is still a bit childish and is very sincere and talkative. He loves everything shiny. He is very sensitive to other’s emotions, and cares for them. He is loyal to the bone, and easily loves. He is a bit insecure, and feels he is still a gawky, tiny dragonette. He can be a bit clumsy due to his recent growth spurt, but loves to race in the wind. He is very competitive and loves to challenge and dare other people. // Pumpkin Pepper 💛 //
Crow // 4 months // eastern Crow was, creatively, named for his black scales and dark amber eyes. When the light hits his scales, they can look to be a purple or green color. He is a sleek creature with no spines or extra muscle. He has small leather wings which are pitch black. He is small as a tiny, street cat right now but promises a larger dragon with his large feet. // Crow is a fairly simple dragon as of right now. He to collect random objects and hoard them under Bjorn's bed. He is whinny and often rude. Though he is very friendly with others of his kind and curious about everything. //zero //
Outsiders -- Humanoids Joseph Hobbes / 28 / human Joseph is a slender and fairly tall, standing at about 6'2". His face is pale and oblonged as well as partially angler. His eyes are a dull blue-grey with a rather tired look to them. Joseph's hair is a light shade of brown and curly, the length just barely passing his ears. He typically wears long dark grey robes and worn boots. He carries a satchel containing various books and journals./Joseph is a rather odd fellow. He mumbles to himself and is cold towards others. He is sly yet is very persuasive, which can make him rather manipulative at times. Joseph is patient and tends to think before he dives straight into something. As a young boy, Joseph had hoped to be a simple farmer like his parents, nothing more, nothing less. But one day, his passed away unexpectedly, and his mother ignored him for many years since he was too great a reminder of his father's life. This went on for several years until Joseph decided wanted to make his mother happy again. He wanted to be a family again. He had heard the tales of alchemists who could transmute souls onto something else. He sought for research that could teach him how, and eventually he did. But it was rather unsettling on how. It required that, if he wanted to bind a soul into a new body, the use of another body was necessary. He robbed a grave of a fresh body in attempt to bring back his father. But he failed. For a few seconds his father was back, but the body had completely turned to dust shortly after. He never told his mother what happened and ran away. He vowe'd that he would never get to return until he had brought back is father. After hundreds of failed attempts, he became who he is today, and has even begun to trap souls in random objects such as books, stones, etc. He studies alchemy, primarily tranmutation if the soul and dabbles in necromancy. // Fiddle //

Dragons Yu Liao / 21 years / Asian Lung Shiny black scales cover his long body and he has thicker plated scales edged with silver along his underside. He has a feathery frill that goes down his back and ends in a large tuft on his tail-tip. He has four short stubby legs with large four toed talons as well as large silver-grey pronghorns on his head. His eyes are icey blue rimmed with white. / He almost acts like a cat sometimes and likes to sleep most of the day. This doesn't mean though that he is inactive. He loves to fight and spar with other dragons but also spends most of the day doing calm activities. He can read and very much likes to do so even if the letters and books are a bit too small for him. He sometimes prefers the company of humanoids to the company of other dragons. He's calm and serious most of the time, he doesn't really understand humour. He has a strong sense of duty and loyalty. none / History Other / The Plague Doctor With the Guild? Yes

The lack of dragons worried Zafer. Usually, when he brought the cart around, dragons would swarm him. He would struggle to keep them from hoarding the cart or stealing the food. Sure, there were some days where the dragons would still be sleeping or had already eaten. These days were rare and dragons liked to eat. They preferred live prey, but would gladly take dead if it was easier. In Zafer's experience, dragons were a lot like his ma's old cat. Lazy with only real motivation stemming from food and an odd loyalty. He decided to take the food route. He steadied himself on the horse dragging the cart before calling, "Food! This is your only chance!" It was all a lie. The dragons could hunt well enough on their own. It was really their only chance at an easy meal.

Yu Liao was dozing among a thicket of bushes and under one lone tree that barely provided enough shade for him. His ear flicked when he heard Zafer's call and opened one eye to look through the bushes at the elf. He watched Zafer ride by with the cart and waited a few more moments before he got the motivation to to get up. He climbed out of the bushes and shook the leaves off of him, walking slowly towards the cart.

Zafer smiled once dragons started to crawl towards him. The elf slowly made his way to the back of the cart. He hissed when touching the cold metal of the barrel. No wonder the dragons weren't up. It was freezing. Thanks to his magic, he normally couldn't feel the cold. Maybe he should start casting 'hot spots' for the dragons to stay warm. That was for later. The dragons were starting to get very close now. He, now touching only the wood, awkwardly hauled the barrels out of the cart. As always, a couple of fish slid out and flopped on the ground. Zafer didn't bother with the effort to pick up the fish. Some dragon would eat it later. "It's fish day." He said to the dragons in a cheerful tone. Fish wasn't his favorite food, but he did like that it was less bloody than meat.

Yu Liao jumped up a bit and flew, seeming to glide just above the ground to move faster. He landed as he reached the cart and sniffed at the fish, wrinkling his nose and looking up at Zafer.

Zafer frowned at the Lung. Everything about today was becoming odd. It was rare when a Lung didn't like seafood. They tend to enjoy it out of all the dragonkind thanks to their connection with the water. "Is the fish bad?" he asked while climbing out of the cart. He grabbed one of the fish and sniffed it. Besides the stale scent of the sea, the smell was okay. He placed the fish down on the grass before getting out a knife. With one foot on the tail, he cut open the fish. The meat looked fine. He looked to the Lung, then to the fish on the ground. Elf senses were strong, yes, but not as strong as a dragons. He looked back at the Lung, hoping for some sort of clue.

Yu Liao picked up a fish from the ground by its tail in his jaws and raised his head. He tilted his head back and swallowed the fish slowly. His throat rumbled a bit as he sniffed through the other fish on the ground.

"Oh." Zafer said, once he saw the drake swallow the fish from the ground. The solution seemed so simple. The barrel would be pretty hard to eat from. A red color bloomed on his cheeks. It wasn't his first day on the job, yet he was making rookie mistakes. With a strong but slow kick, he dumped the raw fish onto the ground. The sloop and squish of the fish made him cringe. However, the rest of the dragons flocked to the spill so he dumped all of the rest. He stepped away from the chaos. "Sorry 'bout that." He apologized to the first imperial. He knew it really didn't matter and the imperial probably couldn't understand Zafer, but it made him feel better.

(Yu Liao isn't an imperial he's just a regular Asian Lung) ( MotherofSolace yes you can) The Lung sniffed through until he was snout-deep in the pile of fish and grabbed a large carp from the middle, dragging it out and chewing on it a few times before swallowing. He took one more large fish from the top of the pile, trying to avoid the ones that had touched the ground and gotten dirt on them.

My post disappeared. T-T Sorry about saying imperial. For some reason, I thought he was one. )
Zafer settled himself down next to the horse. The trained bay remanded calm even as the dragon darted and growled around her. Still, Zafer padded her legs. It was mostly for his sake. The elf, despite working and living here for years, hadn't found his dragon yet. He knew it really didn't matter too much. After all, it wasn't like he was helping the world in any big way like most of the riders. Still, he wanted to know what it was like. So many riders describe their bond with a smile on their face and bright eyes. Zafer huffed, letting out a puff of white. He really shouldn't mope. His mother would have scolded him for not paying attention to the dragons and being lazy. The elf stood up and brushed his pants off. He started to clean up he barrels. On the last one, a dragon actually growled at him. He stepped away.

Yu Liao licked his lips and sat down by the cart. He sniffed the horse curiously. He looked a bit funny trying to sit down, since with his short legs and long body he didn't look much different than when he was standing up. His tail sweeped across the ground and bumped into Zafer's leg.

Zafer's body jerked away when he felt something touching him. He immediately tensed and his head snapped to look at just what had touching him. When he realized it was a dragon's tail, he let out a long sigh. He smiled when the fear dissipated within him. He looked up at the dragon next to him. "You really know how to scare someone, don't cha?" He said in a cheerful manner. While he had been startled, he wanted to show no ill feelings where had. After all, it wasn't really anyone's fault. He placed the last barrel in the cart while keeping an eye on the Lung. Zafer had to smother a grin when he saw the Lung sniff the horse and the house huff in response.

(I'm interested in joining but first I wanted to make sure if I'd be alright to make a character who's an alchemists? And if I can, what might be the best race for one?)

I love these questions. Alchemist would be A-Okay. Honestly, I'm a bit foggy on what an alchemist does. If you have one that works with metals, dwarves would be most common and best. They would have the best access to minerals in their kingdom. I think it would be cool if alchemists were looked down on for trying to change the earth from its already 'perfect' state. Elves I think would be good at working with the natural minerals in plants, if alchemists are more herb-y. Humans would be a median. )
