The Day I Met Knock Out
By Ember Countion

The day I met Knock Out was rather… exciting. I had gone to the video store to see if they had any copies of Epic, so that my friend and I could have movie night. I walked into the store with a sigh, looking around at the strangers. I noticed my neighbor, Mr. Thornton, and smiled, then waved. He waved back with a friendly smile. I turned and headed to a rack of DVDs containing new releases. There was an argument going on in my head: my conscience verses the mental me. They were arguing about whether or not the movie would be there. I simply shook my head and kept going as the mental battle wore on. I looked to the left and saw a flash of red. I stopped, and stared. I saw the back of a red, sleeveless jacket on what appeared to be a slim man. I watched closely as he began to skim through what appeared to be the Horror movies. There was such a similarity of someone I knew in him… he just seemed like someone out a fantasy. My mind began racing, gears turning. Maybe he’s a famous celebrity, or singer, or actor, or...
My thoughts were interrupted when I noticed that he was gone. Blinking, I turned around, my head still looking back, and walked forward a few steps. I say a few steps, because the next thing I knew, I had bumped into something. Backing away, I immediately muttered, “I’m sorry, I didn’t-” but was cut short when I heard a slick voice say, “Watch your step, huma- girl!” My mind mentally flipped. That voice! I had heard it before… but where? Trying to keep myself from squeal as I realized. Transformers: Prime is where I heard the voice! It sounded just like Knock Out! Keep yourself in check, I reminded myself. Don’t lose it. I looked up at the man’s face. My heart sank as I noticed his eyes didn’t have red irises, but brown ones instead. Wait, the voice in my head said. Study his eyes. I began to, and noticed he was rubbing them quite a bit. Contacts, maybe…? I jerked when I heard him say, “Hey!” Looking up, I realized he had been talking to me. I simply grinned.
“’Sup.”
“What are you doing?”
“Renting a movie. Why do you think I’m here? To kidnap an innocent child? Rob this place?”
I noticed him roll his eyes and chuckle quietly under his breath. “I notice you’re rubbing your eyes a lot,” I said, hoping to get info out of him. “Contacts?” He nodded his head, and with an annoyed grunt, mumbled, “I hate my eye color.” I nodded. “Trust me, I feel your pain… I had contacts once, and my eyes were super irritated for a long time.” I stared a moment more, observing about how he was built. Skinny, but slightly thick muscles and broad shoulders. Hmm. Well… he certainly did remind me of the medic… Knock Out, I believe his name was. Maybe I should just wing it.
I was trying to find a good reason to ask him, when I suddenly blurted out, “I know who you are.” He eyed me suspiciously, then leaned in a bit, and with a low sneer, muttered, “Who am I, then?” I knew this was the worst situation for curiosity. I quickly reeled through the thoughts in my head… I needed to rent a movie for my friend and me… this dude was going to kill me most likely if I told him that he was Knock Out… I was too young and epic to die… but curiosity got a hold of me. It whispered, Why not ask? He might just ask you to keep it secret if it’s true. That made sense. So, I decided on it. I took a deep breath, looked the rude man in the eye, and with a twisted grin, said, “You’re Knock Out.” I immediately noticed his eyes go wide. He simply snarled and turned around. I half-smirked, half-gaped, knowing I was right. I tapped him on the shoulder and said, “Was I right?” He simply shook his head, and with a sly grin, said, “Why should I tell you?”
I was about to answer back when I heard a rather loud, gruff voice behind me say, “Knock Out, I found the movie you were lookin’ for!” I spun around and looked up, rather startled to be looking into yellow eyes. Or should I say, eye. I noticed whoever this was had a cover over their left eye. I studied him carefully. He was very muscular, deeply tanned, and wearing a tattered blue sleeveless shirt with black jeans. He stared at me for a moment before glancing at Knock Out, who merely shrugged. I grinned, knowing the truth. “So… this is Breakdown, I’m guessing?” He sighed, and then nodded his head. Breakdown’s eye grew wide. “You let her discover you?” he said in an angry whisper. Knock Out lightly chuckled. “She’s smart for a human.” I grinned, happy to get a compliment from my favorite TFP character. Breakdown simply sighed. “Might as well take her back to the ship…” he mumbled.
My eyes widened to the size of dinner plates at what he said. I felt energy rush through me. I would get to go on the Nemesis?! I nearly squealed in delight. I would get to meet Megatron, Starscream, Dreadwing, Soundwave, and the Vehicons! I would get to ask Soundwave if he is really the Cybertronian Slenderman, and if the Vehicon’s name is really Steve, and… Knock Out suddenly interrupted my dreams with a snort. “As if!” he said. “Do you know what Megatron would DO to my finish if I brought the human aboard?! He’d ruin it! I’d be buffing it for so long!” Breakdown simply rolled his single eye, and put his hands up in mock defense. “Alright, alright! We won’t! But what are we going to do about her, though?” He glanced at me, and then said to Knock Out, “She knows too much.” They both looked at me for a minute, and I decided to pretend that I was simply studying my nails. Knock Out rolled his eyes at me, and then turned to Breakdown again as they began to whisper. I watched them carefully, hoping to pick up a bit of their conversation, but they were being too quiet for me to hear.
I began rocking back and forth on my feet, hoping that they would hurry up… I needed to get back home. Knock Out finally turned to me, and with a low growl, said, “Breakdown and I were never here… got it?” With a smile, I winked, and simply said, “Sure thing, Doc Knock!” Knock Out rolled his eyes, then turned and headed to the counter. Breakdown sat, looking at me for a moment, before giving me a small smile and following Knock Out. I stood there for a moment, trying to soak in what happened, when my cell phone suddenly began vibrating. I glanced at the caller. My friend. I grinned, imagining how her face must look right now. I glanced near the counter, realizing that both Knock Out and Breakdown were gone. Finally, I answered my phone and began walking through the movie section again.
