Everybody in the world was watching him as he looked down at the water below. A cool breeze licked his face like a wet washcloth. The man looked up at the clouds and squinted against the light of the sun creeping up at his back. This normal fellow was about to take the highest dive in history. The man thought once and then leaped, letting himself fall, and plummeted into the blue water smelling of chemicals.

He swam and swam and touched the bottom, feeling alive, and burst back up onto the surface. He heard cheering all around him. The record-setter hoped this would make a difference in his life. He loved the water and now he had perhaps changed the path of swimming forever.
