Welcome
Hello and welcome! Thank you for taking the time to check out Springclan, it means a lot not just to me but also to 𝔊𝔬𝔟𝔩𝔦𝔫 𝔎𝔦𝔫𝔤 who helped to make this clan come to life. Anyway, Springclan is a roleplay set in the Mojave Desert, in western Arizona, specifically. The cats of this clan are tough, and hardy, never backing down from a challenge. To survive in the desert they have made they're own warrior code, and have developed their own customs and traditions to ensure success and longevity. This is a very, very old clan, as it was founded many moons ago by a brown tabby she-cat named Drift. It is unknown how she managed to make it to the oasis that is Springclan, however legend has it that she was a former kittypet spurred on by 'cats in the stars.' She didn't know it at the time, but those 'cats in the stars' were Starclan, and they led her from the comfort of her two-leg den through the blazing hot desert to Springclan. Now, it wasn't Springclan when Drift arrived, the oasis was mainly comprised of hostile rogues who fought over the water whenever they got the chance. However when Drift arrived, she was half dead, but was saved and nourished back to health by a kind, cream colored tom named Milk. Together, Milk and Drift created Springclan, earning the names Milkstar and Driftwood. It is unknown as to why Driftwood, did not accept the leadership role, though it is speculated that it was due to the fact she was expecting Milkstar's kits. However there was still a role in the clan for Driftwood, as Milkstar grew sick, she took temporary leadership of the clan, forming patrols and setting clan meetings while her mate recovered. Thus the title of 'Matriarch' was created, however you may know it as the 'Deputy' position in other clans.
I would like to thank you for checking this out one last time before you get past this, anyways, I hope you like this enough to join and I look forward to roleplaying with you in the near future!

Territory
SpringClan's territory is located in a section of the Mojave Desert. It is hot year-round, though some parts of the year are less hot than others. At night it becomes very cold in most parts of the territory, as the sand does not hold heat well. There are a few interesting areas and unique landmarks which help the cats to identify places and find their way around the territory, and each area comes with its own benefits and dangers. Most of Clan life revolves around the availability of water, and so unless they have to, cats will rarely leave the areas where water is present for very long, especially during the day when they might be very quickly overheated, and becoming overexerted can mean almost certain death. Most of the Clan's territory is open desert: flat, rolling, and sandy, with sparse foliage and covering, and a few occasional trees or rocky outcroppings. There are a few other areas in the territory, though.
Much of Clan activity takes place in the central part of the territory, in the canyon. This is where the camp is located, near the springs which flow out of caves in the canyon walls, and the small oasis at the bottom of the canyon's head. Due to the ready availability of water at the bottom of the canyon, it is filled with far denser foliage than the rest of the territory. Still, make no mistake; it is still dry and sparse, and a cat can still die from the heat here if they're not careful. Plus, while it is a lucrative hunting spot, the shade and foliage, and especially the water, attract more predators as well. Legend has it that a mighty river, fed by the springs, used to flow in the bottom of the canyon; in modern times, however, no such sign of this ancient river exists, save the oasis and springs themselves. Near the southern edge of the territory, the canyon branches: the western branch leads out of the territory, while the eastern branch leads to the Red Valley.
The Red Valley is a deep valley of red clay and stone, carved in many different and interesting ways by years of rain water and creating very strange canyons, valleys, pillars, arches, and other unusual formations. Some of the shadier areas have sparse foliage and, in some crevices, even pools of water; however, anywhere touched by the sun is burning hot and barren during the day. At night, the red stone holds heat slightly better than the sand, and so the temperature doesn't drop quite as much here as in the open desert. Though much of it is shadier than the open desert, the red-stone walls trap heat more than any other area of the territory, and the air here is still, making it just as hot as- if not hotter than- the rest of the territory.
In the open desert north of the Red Valley is a small hollow, shaded by a massive stone outcropping. In the shade beneath the stone is a small pool of water, which is usually warm and a bit stagnant- still, it's water nonetheless. The water level fluctuates depending on the time of year, and how recently it has rained; it can be anywhere from overflowing, to little more than a puddle during the hottest, driest part of the year. The hollow, like the canyon, is filled with foliage, and thus prey. The remnants of a streambed lead a short way south, out of the hollow. This area is called the Lonepool.
West of the Lonepool is a large hill of jagged stones which jut out from the desert. These are called the Fang Stones, due to the way they extend from the earth like massive, jagged teeth. This can be a good place to find mice, but it can also be a great place to get bitten by a snake if one isn't careful. Overall, it's better to avoid. At night, however, it has a fantastic view of all of the surrounding territory, being the most central, and its view
of the stars is unparalleled.
Above the western edge of the canyon is the Twolegplace; a thunderpath passes through the western part of the territory, and there is a stop near the edge of the canyon where twolegs will rest and look into the canyon from a viewing platform. Cats mostly try to avoid it, as there are almost always twolegs here- sometimes with dogs- but when times are hard it can be a decent place to find discarded twoleg food, or water.
Another, smaller thunderpath breaks off from the main one and heads north, into the stony hills that make up the northwestern edge of the territory. The hills are rocky, dusty, and at times unsteady, filled with big horned sheep that can be dangerous if a cat gets too close. In some of the shadier valleys, cats might find some sparse foliage, while snakes and prey can be found in equal measure among the hills. Nestled in the hills, at the end of the dusty thunderpath, is a place the cats call Squarestones. Squarestones is the remains of what was once a large quarry, with the burned, abandoned ruins of an old twoleg nest nearby. A few tunnels lead into the side of Squarestones' cliffs, but neither go all that deep.
The last important location is the camp. The camp is located at the top of the northern tip of the canyon, in a pile of stones at the edge as well as a few caves in its walls. A trail leads down into the canyon and to the oasis below. Cats are careful not to let snakes and other animals into camp, but every now and then one does manage to slip past the guards; thus, cats must be careful where they tread, even in their own dens. The larger spring emerges from its cave just below the camp, making very easy access to water without having to brave the oasis and the predators it attracts.

Traditions
Defend your Clan, even with your life. Elders, queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors, They also have access to the watering hole before anyone else as well. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders and queens. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating. Prey is killed only to be eaten, give thanks to Starclan for its life. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice. After an apprentice's final test, they must patrol the border for one week alone and will then officially be seen as a warrior when/if they return. If more than one apprentices are to be made warriors, they are prohibited from traveling together. A cat cannot be made leader without having mentored at least one apprentice and defeating the current leader in a challenge. The clan will elect a leader if, the former one dies unexpectedly without an heir. Challenge all trespassing cats as if they are there solely to invade and destroy your clan. No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is not from the clan. If a warrior decides to abandon the clan at anytime, they are branded a traitor and forcibly removed from their territory. Medicine cats are forbidden from having kits, they are to be exiled if they break this rule. Any cat to break the warrior code will be punished as seen fit by the leader of the clan.
Any tom may challenge the leader whenever they would like, however they must have a legitimate reason for doing so. He must explain why he thinks he would be a better Leader in front of the Leader, Medicine Cat, Matriarch/Deputy as well as the two oldest living clan member and they will vote on whether or not the challenge is approved. Majority rules in this case, the leader can only vote in order to break a tie. There are five possible scenarios from here on. 1) The challenge is denied by majority. 2) The challenge is accepted, the Leader can face off against the challenger in a duel, the winner of this spar will be the leader of the clan. 3) The challenge is accepted, and the Leader rather than fight for his title, can simply decide to do a clan vote for Leadership. However this can be vetoed by the previously mentioned committee (The Medicine Cat, Deputy/Matriarch, and Elders). This is mainly used by older, and declining, leaders who don't have a lot left in the tank. 4) The leader accepts the challenge, but has another cat take place in his stead. However that cat must consent to fighting on behalf of the clan leader. If a leader does this, if the cat fighting in his stead wins the challenge, that cat will become the new Leader. This is mainly used by older Leaders who vote to deny a challenger's right to challenge but end up loosing. Thus they potentially choose a successor they would prefer. 5) The committee comes to a draw and the clan will vote on if the challenge is accepted. If there are an even amount of clan members, then the Medicine Cat's vote will count as two votes, as to avoid another tie. Deputy/Matriarch succession is decided a bit differently. Whenever a Deputy/Matriarch decides to step down, is exiled, or killed, a new Deputy/Matriarch will be chosen by the current Leader and Medicine Cat. If they cannot come to an agreement on a successor, the oldest cat of the clan will be brought in to break the tie.

I've decided that every week will be one moon, for the sake of this roleplay. So yes, your cats will age, I'll update that for you though so there is no need to worry! This might be a little confusing but here it goes... Seeing as it's early October [2017] when this roleplay starts, the season in Springclan will correspond with that of the real world. So, this clan will start in the season of Leaf-fall. Now since, one week is equal to one month in the clan, that means in roughly two weeks since the start of this roleplay, Leafbare will start. If you're still not following I'll lay it out like this:
1 week real life = 1 moon roleplay time
The clan will start on today's date. October 3rd, 2017 the season is Leaf-fall.
By October 17th, 2017 the new season will be Leafbare.
By November 15, 2017 the new season will be Newleaf.
By November 29th, 2017 the new season will be Greenleaf.
By December 27th, 2017 the new season will be Leaf-fall.
Meaning, on December 27th, 2017 your cat will be one year older. [12 moons]
Also, this will help me keep track of time in the roleplay, so honestly this is more for me than it is for you guys. Now, seeing how this is a clan set in the Mojave Desert, you're more than likely not going to find any water voles or blue birds. Instead our cats will primarily prey on little critters such as:
Mice
Lizards
Antelope Squirrels
Jackrabbits
Mourning Doves
And to a lesser extent non poisonous snakes will be eaten, and they will go dumpster diving during Leafbare when times are really bad. Now, for roleplay purposes you don't have to say 'Shadowpaw caught an Antelope Squirrel and a Mourning Dove.' You can just say 'Shadowpaw caught a squirrel and a dove.' I mean, unless you want to that is, if that's the case then go at it. Also I would like to briefly mention my online activity which is after 6 PM EST on weekdays, and all day Saturday and Sunday. That being said, I won't be on every day, but I will do my best and try to. A more realistic stance would be 4-5 days a week.
