Okay. I finished it and all though Bella's my favorite character, Storm's leaving of the pack made me so, so sad.
The book kicks off with dogs being happy around Storm and doing nice things for her, but starts turning the other way around when Bruno dies. Guess what? He's lacking a jaw and Moon commenta on how Terror died that way. Breeze defends Storm, thinking Moon was implying something.
Storm is on a hunting/border patrol with some others and Thorn asks for the details of Fiery's death.
A lunar eclipse happens and honestly, nothing was really interesting besides the fact dogs thought it was a sign of the Fear-Dog and Storm thought it looked like Terror's eye.
Storm starts to think up a list of dogs who did not do it, instead of who did. She suspects Chase and catches her sneaking out of camp to realize that Chase just wanted to catch up with Rake, Woody, Ruff, and Dart and vice versa. When Chase heads back, Storm accidentally reveals herself and Chase cowers making Storm realize that Chase isn't the murderer if she thought Storm was and Storm reveals her intentions and they walk back to camp together.
God, my memory is poor.
Alpha has any dog heading out go in threes because of Bruno's death. Daisy, Mickey, and Storm run into Fox Mist and Daisy finds out about how the dogs did not scar Fox Mist.
Of course, Daisy tells the Pack and Storm and Mickey are punished. They eat last every day and are sentenced to high watch.
They see Thorn and Beetle up to some suspicious activity near the longpaw place and Storm says they shouldn't report it because well, they're Adult Dogs and they should know what they're doing.
YEEET, Thorn and Beetle don't return for a long time and Storm reveals that she saw the two sneaking out often and they go to the construction site and rescue them. Moon, afterwards, roasts her pups with some savagery.
Storm sleepwalks to the longpaw construction site
Now, Thorn and Storm are to go on high watch every day as a punishment and Thorn gets wrapped up in teenage angst, saying that Storm had no reason to go to the settlement and that it was her father who got murdered. Storm drifts a bit and stops listening until she catches Thorn's last words which make her snaps, leading Thorn to cower. Thorn apologizes, but is now weary around Storm.
They go back.
In camp, Storm questions Breeze about suspects and la di da, Breeze suggests that Storm leave the pack for a bit, saying that all the dogs don't trust her, but once they see how much they need her, they'll beg for her to come back. They playfight, but Storm bites Breeze harder than she meant too and that leads every dog's mistrusting her once more. Breeze defends the Fierce Dog again, saying they were only play fighting and that Storm didn't mean too.
Later on, Storm has a dream about the Fear-Dog taking Tumble to the beach and Storm was chasing them.
Storm wakes up on the beach and smells him, but can't find him, so she runs back to camp and tells all the dogs that she smelled him on the beach.
They find him and Tumble says Storm was acting very scary. She carried him here and told him to hide and of course, more mistrust in the Pack.
When they get back, every dog is on edge about Storm and not one will meet her eye. Sweet comes out, but Storm has a speech prepared on how she's going to leave the Pack and how she now sees that she can't trust herself. Storm leaves and it's so sad reading about how no dog tells Storm she can stay and what not. Not a dog speaks in her favor.
Very end of the book, Storm is face to face with the Golden Deer herself, thinking she's so close, she could catch it and bring good luck to the Pack. They stare at each other for a while before Storm walks away. Final three sentences~
It isn't my duty anymore. I'm a Lone Dog now. I can't bring fortune to a Pack that is no longer mine.
I'll fix this up tomorrow.
Lucky, you disappointment.
