Post five: Suffix list plus meanings
When I was doing my name rater, I started setting a list of rules that determine what makes a bad name or a fine/good name. So, I have written them down for the public. Please do note, this is for naming a normal cat in the four canon Clans. Also, these may change from time to time. Enjoy.
Prefixes
For this, I am going to list a couple of kits: Sweetkit, Bluntlykit, Birdkit, Ghostkit, Tuxedokit, Sunshinekit, Blackkit and Forestkit. All of these except for one violates the rules I have made. Which one? Well, you may be deciding between two or more. The answer is Blackkit. This is why:
Sweetkit: Do not name a cat after a trait that the parents can't see the cat have at birth: How does this violate that? Well, sweet means, pretty much, being pleasant. What if she grows up and becomes very rude and no body can tolerate her? Sweetkit would not fit her now, at all. This also includes naming after eye color, cats don't have their eyes open until after they should have their name. Plus, their eyes are blue for a while after they open them.
Bluntlykit: Don't name a cat after an adverb: This goes with the rule above of not naming a cat after a trait after a trait that no body can see when they are born. Bluntlykit could be a very dishonest and indirect cat when they grow up. Plus, naming after an adverb sounds weird.
Birdkit: When naming a kit, don't be vague or name them after a general category: Birds is a vague category, any feathered and beaked friend could be in it. Instead or naming a kit something such as Birdkit or Treekit, be more specific and name them after a type of one of those, such as Wrenkit or Maplekit.
Sunshinekit: Do not make compound prefixes: Compound prefixes two words that have been mashed together to make another word. Names such as Rainbowkit, Sunshinekit and Butterflykit violate this rule.
Ghostkit: Don't name them after something spiritual or sacred: Do not name your kit something such as Starkit or anything related to StarClan. Names such as Sunkit are okay because, really, the sun isn't usually considered spiritual or sacred.
Tuxedokit: Don't name a kit after something human, even if it is a pattern on a cat or breed of cat: Cats don't usually label patterns they see on multiple cats, usually. Plus, cats have no idea what a tuxedo is. Don't name a kit Humankit for obvious reasons. Any type of gemstone violates this rule as well.
Forestkit: Don't name a cat after a biome: It makes a kit sound as if they are better or greater than everyone else. Plus, it is vague. Names such as Oceankit, Forestkit, Swampkit, Lakekit etc. fall into this category.
Other rules:
Don't name a kit after their Clan or a Clan nearby.
Don't name a kit after a shape: Imagine it now, Squarekit, Ovalkit, Circlekit. I've only seen one person do this before by the way.
Don't use a kittypet name as a prefix.
Don't make a kit named after a word in another language: Names such as Aquakit break this rule. This may be acceptable in some Clans.
Don't name a normal kit after something really dark: No Bloodkits, Poisonkits or Apocalyptickits when a normal kit(a kit with an uneventful birth and normal parents) is born.
