When Alistair offered his hand, Andrei shook it with a smile, happy that the other male was finally starting to open up with him a little bit. It was a start, at least, however small it was. Any progress was a step in the right direction.
"Okay, I'll call you Allie then. I'm Andrei, Andrei Ivanov. And of course, you're welcome. I'd ask for the same in your position. Though I admit I would probably be panicking a lot more than you are."
It astonished Andrei how calm and matter-of-fact Alistair aeemed to be about his whole situation. Andrei was fairly sure that, had it been him, he would have been stressing out, probably too afraid to even think of anythinf practical, likentrying to protect his siblings. He'd never met someone so calm under pressure as Alistair. Well, he was either calm or just a very good actor. Andrei didn't really know which, but he didn't particularly care either. He'd simply never met anyone like him.

-- (( = OOC = )) --
-- (( = IC = )) -- Alistair blinked at that. Did Andrei think he wasn't panicking? The former heir might have looked calm and put together on the outside, but on the inside, he was a mess of worry and anxiety. He'd accepted his death, sure, but it was hard to actually not think about it. That's all he'd thought about recently, all he could focus on. "I am panicking," he told Andrei quietly.
The cold was beginning to numb his hands and feet, but he wasn't ready to head back inside just yet. No, not yet. He hadn't spent nearly enough time outside and execution was possible at any moment. "I worry and worry all the time now. There's not much else to do but sit and worry."
Alistair turned away from his home, now a prison, and began to head furthee down the path. He moved at an easy, unhurried place, picking his way around prickly, dead bushes and fallen twigs. For someone used to being pampered, he didn't seem to mind not having shoes. "But I like it out here. I've always found the garden relaxing." The garden he'd loved was dead and wilted now, but it didn't change that. He would always love it.

“Well, at least being out here gives you something else to think about instead of thinking of the current circumstances. I like it out here too, it’s peaceful. I can come out here more often with you, if you like. If it snows again your sisters might like to play out here, too. They’ll probably be wanting to build snowmen or something like that.” Andrei smiled.
They probably would be. All little children liked to play in the snow, and Alistair’s sisters seemed particularly playful little girls. If it snowed, snowball fights and igloos might be on the cards for them. Alistair would be willing to supervise that.
Andrei would have been willing to let Alistair and his siblings escape from the garden, but if any of the family escaoed on Andrei’s watch, the young man risked execution. He would be considered an enemy of the state, probably even accused of conspiring to overthrow the government with Alistair or something like that. Somehow Andrei didn’t find this particularly appealing
(Sorry for length, on mobile. I would have replied sooner but it’s been a hectic week.)
