The wind was cold and bristling, and Rick craned his head up to squint at the heavy cloud cover. “Alright, everyone,” he said, turning towards his team. He had to raise his voice to be heard over the howls of the wind, feeling the beginnings of rain hit his face. “Because of the weather this game’s gonna be a lot trickier. We’ll be needing a different strategy.”
He looked around at them, trying to catch everyone’s eye, but most of them were ducking their heads or holding a hand over their eyes, squinting from the wind and rain. The green of their house color barely peeked out of waterproof cloaks. “We can use the weather to our advantage,” he said. “Beaters aim for the backs, especially if the chasers look like they’re slipping. Chasers, if you’ve got someone on your tail, head upwards - the rain will be an extra distraction, but you’ve got to be extra focused, kay?” He slapped on the brightest smile he could manage. “Alright, team, we’ve got the most talented players here,” he said. “We’ve practiced our rear ends off for this moment. We’ve got this in the bag - right?”
Rick tried to send Ari a charming smile, but his ex just gave him a flat look and flipped him the bird. He tried not to wince - if Ari had been resistant to his charms before, he must be straight up immune now.
“Right?” he said again, flashing his smile over to Lindy, who usually had his back for the pre-game prep, but she gave him the same look Ari wore, only twenty shades more disapproving. Ouch. He knew Lindy had been bitterly disappointed when he earned the title of captain rather than her (it took a lot more schmoozing on his part, but hey, every Slytherin for themselves), but she had always hid it well under her schmoozing up to him (he could always tell, though - it was greatly satisfying to see her kiss up to him to gain brownie points with him, though.) Rick probably should’ve realized that dynamics would shift once she found out that he had been messing with her stepbrother behind her back before dropping him when things got too hard.
Rick had hoped fervently that the violently messy break-up wouldn’t mess with the team, but practice had been clunky, and their teamwork had definitely dropped several notches. Even his best Chaser, Sterling, who was infamous for not letting emotions mess with their playing, had a tension in their shoulders and a stiffness in their movements that wasn’t there before.
“C’mon, guys,” he said, feeling his jaw stiffen as his smile locked onto his face, “you’re not going to mess this up for me, are you? We better see a good game, ‘kay?” He couldn’t help the hint of a threat that leaked into his voice. He held out a hand. “Bring it in!"
((aaaah sorry this took so long - but yea, feel free to have your character wherever - they can be on rick's team or on the other team, since rick's a slytherin. (you can also make characters for the other players on the team - i included them to introduce rick's character a little bit. he's a bit of a jerk xp) i kept their positions vague in case you had a specific position in mind for your charrie ^.^))

(Hey! I'm sorry for taking a few days to get back to you! I was kinda running around the state for a bit @_@ As for this character... Annoying Ravenclaw lol. Not really pretentious, but does not shut up, people assume they'd be in hufflepuff if not for the fact they're just so hyper fixated on learning everything about magical beasts- do not ask them about it, the talk will NOT end. Hope this is okay!)
This....was terrible.
His teeth were already chattering and his robes had already soaked through. Completely! The rain was whip sharp and stung his cheek with every wave. The wind was howling and it rang in his ears like some sort of beasts call. This was absolutely not ideal flying weather, and definitely not ideal Quidditch weather. Why was the game being held in this weather again?
Lincoln had no idea why anybody would ever play this game willingly, let alone today- Don't get him wrong. He loved to fly, but joining the Quidditch team? A complete accident. He just wanted to catch a fairy that he had spotted near the edge of campus. He'd latched onto his broom and gone shooting across the school- right through the Quidditch practice and accidentally snatched the snitch instead of his magic companion. He'd gotten many slack jawed looks from the team, but he'd been too mad and rambling about the fairy to really notice. His team had approached him two hours later (seems the Gryffindor team had basically gone after the Ravenclaw team to get the 'deets' on their new player.) He hadn't been able to weasel his way out of joining, and here he was. Seeker. Brand new. Their other one had just gone and busted...quite a lot of bones, convenient that he was there to replace them. He was not jazzed. Wet. Cold. He could go on.
"Lincoln, did you hear me?"
Lincoln's head shoots up and he gawks at his team captain, "Huh?"
He can hear her disapproving sigh through the rain, which is kind of a surprise. Kirin had her hair tied in a sloppy blonde ponytail and she was watching him through thin blue eyes. She was nice, a bit stiff, ya know, some Ravenclaw's could be that way. She was talking again- "You're new, but you're our seeker. You're small-" Hey "So you're fast. Their seeker is bigger than you, they're good though. They have experience." This did not sound like a pep talk. "Hit corners hard, they won't be able to match you and will have to over compensate."
"Y-yes Kirin!"
Now she was giving advice that sounded a lot more like actual pep talks and advice than he had gotten. The Chasers- three dangerous girls who felt pretty cut throat during practice. Fly fast, hard, and make the goals. The Beaters- Lovely guy and a lovely girl. Conveniently dating, and a stubborn brick wall, one he wouldn't stereotype for Ravenclaw. Hit hard, have good reflexes. Then their Keeper, to make a pun..he was quite the keeper, he got the job done. Don't let anything pass- Okay actually this was all pretty terrible advice. He was striking Kirin out as a canidate for motivational speaker of the year.
The Slytherin's looked well put together, and they'd been pretty tight lipped about practice this year. He was gonna be creamed. There was a call signalling the game and Lincoln felt his blood go cold (or was that the temperature?). They were taking off and he found himself turning to Vanessa- a Chaser, "Wow this is really happening. I can't believe it- so we just go- we just start flying- wait Vanessa-!" The girl grumbles to him over her shoulder and he flies up after her.

((hi!! sorry i took so long - since my time's dwindled ive just been checking for notifications so i didn't even realize you've responded until now ;.; ill definitely respond faster if u like my posts tho!
lol i love him))
There was some hesitance as hands laid on top of his, but Rick was willing to bet that his teammate's competitive streaks are stronger than any vendetta against him. Rick looked up at their faces, suddenly serious. "Remember your training," he said, specifically catching the eyes of the three newbies on the team. Of course, because they were new, they were probably the only ones on the team who weren't bitter with him at the moment.
As they started heading onto the field, Rick drifted over to Kondwani, his fellow Beater. "Remember, you're my decoy," he murmured.
"Mm."
"If they think you have poor aim, their guard will be down. Always aim for me."
"Mm."
Rick clapped him on his massive shoulder. "Good man." Kondwani just grunted. He was the kind of guy people associated with the dumb henchman, and he liked it that way; it makes it easier to be sneaky when you hide your massive intellect.
Sterling was his next target. "Stick close," he told them. That's all he had to tell them, really - he could barely see their eyes through their prescription goggles, but just the way they straightened on their broom told him all he needed to know. He looked over at Kat, one of his new Chasers, who was clearly sticking close to Sterling herself. Whether it was for strategy, to protect Sterling from their own weak eyesight (to win the game, mind, not for Sterling's own good), or because the girl was fascinated by the older Slytherin, Rick couldn't dream of guessing at.
"Kat," he said, "you know what to do." Kat grinned wickedly, and he grinned wickedly right back. He liked her. Not a speck of morality in her body.
Last of the rookies, Seongjin - a literal puppy. To this day Rick wasn't sure how the gangly, perpetually smiling child made it into the house of ruthless ambition when said kid didn't have an unkind bone in his body, but he was graceful with the Quaffle and his sincere cheer made even the grumpy Ari smile a little sometimes, so Rick decided in the end that he liked him on the team.
Seongjin was also probably the only one, along with rule-stickler Lindy, who didn't have secret tricks up his sleeve. Rick always made sure to pull aside individual players to the side during practice to teach them... other strategies. But he just didn't have the heart to drag little Jin to the dark side. Yet. He gave the eager Seongjin a thumbs up and then finally dared to inch close towards Ari. "You -"
"I know," Ari snapped at once, zooming ahead. Seongjin gave Rick a worried look and hurried after Ari. Probably to check if he was okay. Stupid sunshine child - Ari's going to bite his head off. Rick sighed.
He met Lindy's gaze for a split second before looking away to head over and shake the Ravenclaw captain's hand.
Rick gave Kirin a big smile as he shook her hand firmly. "Let's have a good game," he said cheerfully. He liked to be on good terms with the other captains - even afterwards, if Slytherin does win, he's always sure to head over to congratulate them on a good game. It's always good to be on good terms with team captains. It's good for future favors.
The referee blew the whistle, and the players lifted into the air. Lindy took her place by the goal posts, eyes sharp. She may not look intimidating, decked out in full Quidditch gear, but she's got the biggest muscles on the team. Rick didn't like being on her bad side. He tried to make eye contact again, maybe a thumbs up or a smile, but Lindy's dark stare shattered any hopes of reconciling before the start of the match. Oh well.
The whistle shrieked. The game took off in streaks of movement as the teams raced for the Quaffle. Rick looked on pleasantly, swinging his bat loosely in his hand as he watched for the Bludger Kondwani would soon be sending him. Kat was edging dangerously close to one of the Ravenclaw Chasers, looping about and threatening to collide. With the battering rain, it was a terrifying distraction as Sterling chased down the player with the Quaffle. Rick would be worried, with the rain and all disrupting Sterling's hearing, if the Chaser wasn't a genius who preferred to use their magic to sense the air pressure around them. Seongjin, meanwhile, was probably trying to make friends with the other Chaser in the middle of the game. An unwitting distraction. Rick loved it.
Ah, Kondwani's Bludger. It completely missed the Ravenclaw Chaser holding the Quaffle and swung right at Rick. With a roll of his wrist, Rick sent it with a deafening crack at the tail end of his target. The Bludger happily tried to knock the unsuspecting Chaser off her broom.
Rick's gaze darted towards Ari, who was floating high above the stadium. He couldn't help the unwarranted concern that sprouted in his chest - nasty side-effects of old love, it seems. Rick had been scouting out the new Ravenclaw Seeker - a tiny thing, really. Ari was already short and skinny as heck, but the Ravenclaw newbie somehow looked even smaller. Rick almost felt bad for him. Almost.
The one thing Ari's known for, other than his sharp flying, was his acerbic tongue.
Ari was flying close to the newbie. Did they see the Snitch? Ari was probably saying something nasty, then - an observation on the Ravenclaw's lack of experience, perhaps. A lack of intelligence. How his grip was wrong or maybe he's directing his broom poorly. Ari liked details. If the Ravenclaw dare make a mistake and stumble on his flying, Ari would be on him in a heartbeat. It would be even worse today, seeing how Ari's been in a particularly foul mood ever since he broke up with Rick.
Rick nearly got a face full of Bludger. Cursing, he spiraled away, not having enough time to hit it. Darn it, his mind's still full of Ari, unable to focus on the game right in front of him. Stupid relationship. Stupid old fondness. He needed something - someone - new.
He whacked a Bludger particularly harshly, yelling out a "Sorry!" when it pummels into the side of one of the Ravenclaw players. Manners were certainly important. It gave the impression that he was a decent human being - rather than the ruthless mastermind he\\bound on winning this Quidditch match. So that when he purposefully flew in the path of the Ravenclaw Seeker diving after the Snitch, nearly getting both of them thrown off their brooms, all he'd have to do is flash an apologetic smile and call out a "Sorry, sorry, my bad! You okay there, buddy?" and the referee won't hand him a foul. Even the Seeker might believe it was just an accident. He gave the new kid a blinding smile through the pouring rain.
He loved this game.

(It's alright! I get that that happens! :> I will definitely like the posts! I was kinda all over the place for a few weeks anyways so I get the feeling. And I'm glad you love him <3 he's....chatty lol)
"Yes, a good fair game." Kirin's grip is firm and she gives him a bit of a strained smile. She knew the Slytherin's were always crafty with their tactics, and with their practices being so under wraps this year she was worried. Who knew what surprises they had up their sleeves. She gives his hand an extra hard squeeze before letting go and dipping her head. Ravenclaw's had a hard time carving their way out between Slytherin's and Gryffindor's teams but with their semi-annoying new chatterbox-… err addition she liked to believe they had a chance. Hopefully Lincoln wouldn't gab his first game away and let the snitch go to Ari. She eyes Lincoln critically as he trails behind Vanessa. She'd have wait and see.
For Lincoln, it had been easily to lose Vanessa once the game had started. The weather wasn't letting up and people were getting into position. Lots of moving bodies. He'd been hovering nearby and following alongside Vanessa as she flew- of course he had been gabbing and she had been ignoring him; at least she had been trying to the best of her abilities and then a quaffle had whizzed past him. He'd almost crashed straight into her as she banked hard and went after the thing- a Slytherin chaser was right on her heels.
Lincoln had a few moments to linger unsuredly before his captain was shouting at him to get it together. Right! He scans the arena and spots the other teams seeker floating high and he hesitantly climbs up there to join. His plan is to keep his distance (he heard they have barbed tongue) but they seem to drift together anyways. His nerves hit him fast and before the other Seeker can even open their mouth, Lincoln's mouth is open and boy he wishes he could make himself shut up. "Hey! I'm Lincoln, I'm the new Seeker! For the Ravenclaw's that is- but I mean you already know that because we're playing. You know, Slytherin versus Ravenclaw. My team versus your team. Our teams versus each other!" he laughs nervously and squeezes his broom hard between his fingers, "I kinda fell into this position. Quite literally. It's been interesting. What's your name? How long have you been doing this position- or playing quidditch? Did you play a different position before? Really wishing you guys the best of luck here, but we'll see how the game plays out-"
He can see their eyes bugging out of their head. This other Seeker keeps opening their mouth to speak and now that Lincoln is on a groove he isn't sure he can really stop. "Did you know that they used to a bird called a Golden Snidget? They were these funny little fat birds but they often times got hurt or died during the games so they were nearly extinct and we switched to the SNITCH-"
There's a flash of gold out of the corner of his eye and Lincoln's mouth ran before his brain did. Just up and announced the snitch to this player. He's shooting after it immediately and zooms past Poni and the other teams Chaser- The Slytherin Chaser seemed like a friendly dude but Poni's smile is strained as she is trying to keep with the quaffle. The other guy seemed oblivious to the fact this was pretty distracting.
This other Seeker is directly on his tail as he chases for the snitch and now that Lincoln's gabbing has turned to quiet muttering to himself, it seems this other player has a lot to say. Noted: That tongue is definitely barbed. He can see Amberlee hurry to Mason's side when a Bludger nails him directly in the side. Amberlee throws a venomous look to the guy who sent that thing flying, and the grin and sorry he sends back doesn't seem to be cutting it for her. Mason seems to be trying to calm her down, even as he clutches at his side and is a concerned shade of pale for a dude who is normally so tan.
His attention flits to the Bludger thrower as he flies in front of their other Chaser, Markie. Was this guy just really oblivious as to what he was doing? Or was he doing this on purpose? Markie definitely doesn't seem to think it's an accident; though Markie has a bit of a temper anyways, so maybe she is just mad. She's getting in his face, and maybe if he wasn't so far away he could hear what she's saying.
"LINCOLN!" Kirin shout breaks through the roar of the rain and the crowd. He’d have to let her know- Kirin shouts his name again.
Lincoln's attention snaps back as he is about to slam into one of the goal hoops. The other Seeker has swerved past it and continued after the snitch. The snappy comment they throw his way is ignored as he jerks out of the way and is sent rolling through the air on his broom. "Oh jeez oh jeez oh jEEZ-!" He goes careening towards the stands and the only way he can think to correct this is to go looping straight up until he could flip and shoot back towards the snitch. So.. he does that.
His breath is tight in his chest and the cold air is doing his lungs no favors as he careens high and then launches back down towards the ground and the snitch which seems to think sticking towards the ground is going to keep it away from the Seekers hands. Lincoln would need a moment to catch up, even with his hurtling pace, and hopefully the snitch would stay out of their hands long enough for him to fix his mistake. Even being close by if the other Seeker caught the Snitch would do him some comfort. Being across the field or smashed into the side of the stands would be pretty darn embarrassing; that’s saying something considering Lincoln hadn’t thought this game would ever embarrass him.
Lincoln didn't care for this game. He hadn't wanted to be on the team. So why would he ever be embarrassed by losing a game? Kirin, that’s why. Well- and his other team mates too. They’d grown on him. Kirin, however strict, was someone at this point that he didn't want to disappoint- let alone he wanted to kind of impress her. "Hey!" was that wheezing really his voice? "Can you tell your teammate to stop trying to cause injuries?! That isn't safe or good sportsman ship! What if he misses and hits someone in the stands, or one of your teammates gets in the ways- not that I want him to hit my teammates but the point of the matter is just flinging those things around-"

Ari snorted loudly in the middle of Lincoln's protests. "You're really new to Quidditch, aren't you?" He yelled over the pelting rain. "Beaters are supposed to be directing Bludgers towards the players on the other team! What, did you really think we just sort of wait around and let Bludgers fly amok knocking whichever player they choose? Shi -!" Just as he was speaking, a Bludger dove around the corner straight at the two Seekers; Ari darted out of the way, peeking over his shoulder to see if the Ravenclaw managed to the same. "You may be a good flyer, but that doesn't mean you're a good player!" He snarled, hovering above the other as he desperately attempted to scanned for the escaped Snitch through the heavy weather. "Blabbering on about the Golden Snidget, nearly conking your head on the goal post - you're not taking this seriously at all, are you? Why'd you even join? Were you dumb enough to assume that this is all some nice fun past time, as if people don't get sent to the Hospital Wing every other week because Quidditch is a bloody dangerous game? My god, get your head out of Sunshine Land!"
He let out a frustrated yell when the golden glint of the Snitch eluded him, and his angry, bitter gaze dropped to Lincoln. "I feel sorry for your team," he said, and then shot upwards.
Just a few feet away Rick was still dealing with a face full of a growing Ravenclaw Chaser. There's a pleasant smile on his face, despite the rain drooling down his cheeks and plastering his dark red hair to his face. It didn't reach his eyes. "I really don't know what you want me to say, Professor McCain ruled it an accident," he said, tilting his head towards the referee. "So you might not have the agility or the reflexes to avoid obstacles in your way, but there's really no reason to be a poor sport about it," he said, his smile all teeth. "Now, I have a job to do - don't you? Besides, I think your team rather needs you."
Behind them, Sterling had wrestled the ball to their side and shot it to Seongjin, who cheerfully chucked it just past the Ravenclaw Keeper's fingertips. "Did you see that?!" His delighted shriek cut through the thunder of the rain. "Did you see that?! I made it I made it I made it -"
Rick left the Ravenclaw vibrating in rage as he gave his bat a couple of test swings, watching as the Quaffle's thrown back into the game. His eyes narrowed at the sight of Ari zipping back and forth in the air - a prime sign that the Seeker's head had just fled the field.
"Hey!" He barked at Ari, nearly balking when Ari turned the full weight of his rage-filled gaze on him. "What's going on over there? Your favorite hyung just scored!"
Ari's lips pulled back in a snarl. "You just leave me alone before I knock you over the head with your own bat!"
Rick huffed an exasperated sigh. "Ari, what did we say about leaving this attitude behind when we're on the field?"
"Don't treat me like a child!" Was the immediate fireback. "It's because you're here!"
"Oh my gosh, is this about us? We have to focus on the game right now!"
"Hard when you're being a slimy a//hole," Ari said coldly, and Rick had to try very, very hard not to flinch.
"Ari," he said, corner of his lip twitching as he dove after a Bludger to smack it the other way, "this is just strategy."
He heard Ari snort behind him, and he turned to see Ari's face twist as he watched Rick’s Bludger attempt to clip the tail of a Ravenclaw Beater’s broom and send them spinning. "Yeah," Ari said bitterly. "Just strategy. You always have a good excuse to be absolutely shi//y, don't you?"
"What the he//, where is this coming from?" Rick said, bewildered. "Just go catch the Snitch before the other team does!"
There's an uproar, and Rick whipped around to see that the Ravenclaw team had scored. "Okay, who effed up?" he muttered under his breath as he flew over to Lindy. She was wearing her lips in a tight, straight line - not a good sign.
"What's happened?" Rick said. "Why did you let the Quaffle pass, Lindy? Were you not paying attention?"
"Captain, she just barely missed it," Sterling said as they began flying past, so Rick whirled the direction of his words onto them.
"Oh? So what were you doing? You were supposed to be getting the Quaffle away from the other team, not watching them score," he said, perhaps a bit more harshly than he intended, because now Sterling was turning their cold demeanor towards him.
"I did my best. They are good players," they said simply.
"So? We're supposed be be better," Rick hissed.
The whistle blew, and Sterling raced back into the game. "She just ignored me," Rick said in shock. "What the he -"
"They," Lindy corrected behind him, "are heading back into the game. To play. Like you want."
Not liking the feeling that his players were turning on him, he told Lindy "I don't like that attitude" before heading back up. His irritation was itching at him uncomfortably, and he certainly didn’t the like the foreboding feeling of anticipation, as if he were already bracing himself for something to explode.
((things gonna explode lol
anyway i was thinking we could end the game in the next post - it’d be interesting to have ravenclaw win and knock rick’s ego down a few pegs feel free to have your charries chase mine back down to continue the conversation (or have them eavesdrop on rick's drama), sorry i kept letting them drift off >.<))

"Yeah, I thought that much was obvious-" Lincoln gestures to himself, "I don't exactly scream flying jock." Really. It was a wonder he could carry all his books by himself, "Okay, but he is hitting people that have their attentions elsewhere, not even aiming for the people who are in front of him! Fair warning is only fa-" the Bludger flies past Lincoln's nose and his breath gets caught in his throat. He's silent and can only stare while he works through his shock, though he can fully register Ari's words. Honestly? His blood is boiling a little. "You know what- HEY!" They just flew off! He didn't even get to give them a piece of his mind! Well he was going to! He want's to chase after but the Bludger that sailed past? Well it had whipped right back around and Lincoln yelps and darts away, "Stop that I'm not in the mood!"
"An ACCIDENT?!" Amberlee was still fuming, "An accident my A//! We ALL know that was no accident!" Her teeth were grinding something fierce and he was lucky she wouldn't risk this damn game to deal with him, "We know you play dirt, Rick, and I don't know why they continue to let you get away with it, you no good piece of sh//!"
"Amberlee, just let it go, it doesn't even hurt that bad-" Mason was really trying to diffuse the situation. He had been for minutes now, but she was not dropping it.
"As if! You're clutching your side- you know what he isn't worth this!" She tosses a rude gesture to Rick and turns away. She had things to do and now she'd be covering for Mason too. She's glad when Ari makes their way over to Rick. She basically herds Mason to where he could fill in his position but also keep a low profile. "I'll be doing all the flying, you stick around here"
"Amber-"
"Sssh sssh sssh. How am I supposed to watch out for my special guy if you're in danger."
"You should just ask me out at this rate, Amberlee, I've been waiting for months." Mason gives a weak laugh and pries his hand away from his side.
"Mason, I'm trying to be unique with my method, just give me a bit."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, yea-" He shoves her broom away as Lincoln sails past, Bludger following behind and with a strong smack (and a pained grunt) Mason sends it sailing back towards Slytherin, "Don't keep me waiting, my heart can't handle it~"
Poni and Vanessa had managed to work together to score soon after the Slytherin player did. Poni had to admit that the player- Seongin, was his name, she thinks- he was good. Cheerful and positive. Poni would know, she had been listening to him for a while. Didn't quite seem suited for the Slytherin's. Now the girls were sharing a look as the Slytherin team members went for each others throats.
"Jeez..." Poni hissed.
"Right?" Vanessa was less than impressed, truthfully this stuff should be kept off the field.
"What's Rick and Ari's deal?" Something like this wasn't just an in game drama, there must have been something they were fighting about outside of the game. Poni wasn't one to normally pay attention to any sort of that drama.
"I heard they were dating." The girls banter for a bit longer, Kirin saddling along side the two to watch the drama. However when Sterling's tone went cold and they returned to the game, the girls quickly scrambled back into position- especially after hearing Lindy's curt correction.
"Sterling, you alright?" Kirin calls warily from her broom. She had played against these players before, they may not be on the same team but Kirin didn't really care about rivalry anyways. She left that to Amberlee.
Lincoln had managed to shout a quick thank you to Mason, and had flown through the mass of fighting Slytherin's because he had his eyes on the prize. The snitch was hovering by the hoops, and with the anger and adrenaline pumping through his veins Lincoln was sure he could get it before the other Seeker. Something was up with them, yelling at their coach, flying erratically. Their head obviously wasn't in the game and that bothered Lincoln more. He didn't care about this game, that Seeker did, they had practically flayed him but here they were. If Lincoln got the snitch it wasn't even a fair game because they weren't all there! They've seen it now, this Ari (if what he heard when eavesdropping was correct), and they were going after it. All he had to was get the snitch before them and the game would be won! Then he'd march up to them and give them a piece of his mind! Lincoln leans forward on his broom, grip tight and legs pulled up. Briefly he thinks this is how a Occamy or a Thunderbird might dive, and his mind really wants to wander around that idea. He wants to pick apart how they'd look hunting, gliding, and lazing through the air. He can't though. The two Seekers both wouldn't make it through the hoop; this was honestly like some weird, backwards game of chicken. Lincoln was aiming on winning. If Ari would turn away last minute then Lincoln would have a clear shot.
However, the Keeper who had started to guard the other two hoops (who wanted to be in the way of BOTH Seekers) goes wide eyed and shoots towards the hoop the Snitch was hovering in. The Snitch darts to the right, right as a Quaffle soars into the hoop and Lincoln turns fast, hands out to catch the snitch and he just barely clips the hoop with the end of his broom. "HAH!" Lincoln shouts, and turns to grin at Kirin and the rest of his group.
The game is wrapped up at that point. There were no injuries besides Mason- who is really trying to downplay the severity of it; his tan still hasn't returned yet. Once everyone is safely on the ground Lincoln stalks over to the Slytherin team before Kirin can talk to him or stop him. It seems that there's some sort of heated argument going on, which Lincoln doesn't register until he's tapped on Ari's shoulder and crossed his arms, "YOU! You flew off before I could say anything!" The Snitch is carefully held in his hand, he'd never hurt the thing even if he was angry, "I know people get hurt in this game, how do you think I got MY position. I only got it because some other guy hurt himself! I don't care for this game at all! I'm doing this to help Kirin and the rest out! It isn't terrible all the time!" He's pointing now, wow, "And don't go riding me about having my head in the clouds when you were barely paying attention at all! This snitch? Hardly won fairly because you weren't playing at your best! I expect a rematch and a real fair fight because yes! You are better than me! I'm a rookie who happens to fly fast! I don't know what happened out there but I hope you're okay!" only after he notices the tense faces around him does he realize he may have interrupted something. Also, he is realizing now he spouted a lot of nonsense in a really angry tone. He picked yet another fight. "O-Oh uh-" he shrinks back on himself, "Well- I- uh- wow I didn't mean to interrupt- shoot you guys were talking and here I came- stomping up all upset- I mean you were right but also wrong and I'm not trying to pick a fight even though it sounds like I am- I'm still talking- someone should talk and shut me up- wow I am sorry-" He had been backing up only for a hand to land heavily on his shoulder and for a chest to press against his back. He looks up and pales at Kirin's strained smile, "K-Kirin!"
"...Good game. So sorry about Lincoln. I'm looking forward to another match. I'll take my Seeker and go." She shoots him a look, "Lincoln, you're missing Amberlee's party planing, and I'm sure Mason would love to hear from you."
(It sounds like the team is already exploding oh boi. I'm sorry, I feel like the getting of the snitch was kind of anti-climatic but it's all I could think of, rip
RIP Rick ;9 sounds good to me, hope his team doesn't fall apart...too much. It's alright to let them drift lol, everyone's doing their own thing~)

Rick landed on the ground, hard. The impact stung but he couldn't care less as he marched over furiously to where Ari had hopped off his broom.
"Ari!" he shouted over the rain, quickening his step as the other tried to escape. "What the he//, you just cost us the game -"
Ari whipped off his goggles and turned furious eyes on Rick. (And d/mn, with his drenched curls and burning green eyes, he still looked so ridiculously beautiful.) "Oh, what's wrong? All sad that your little strategies didn't work?"
Rick was broiling as Lindy landed nearby. "Rick," she said, her voice troubled, "I need to talk to you about your Beating -"
"Oh yeah, the other team's caught on, how'd you feel about?" Ari challenged, poking a finger into Rick's chest. "This one kid was all like 'Can you tell your teammate to stop hurting my teammates?' Like, what the he// do I say to that?"
"Okay, I haven't noticed because I've been focused on the Chasers most games, but Rick, you're doing some dangerous stuff," Lindy said, and oh how her voice has taken that nagging tong Rick has grown so annoyed with.
"He's been teaching Kat and Kondwani how to cheat," Sterling announced bluntly as they came up from behind, and Rick's never felt more betrayed.
"Now, hold on, it's not cheating -" Rick sputtered but then Lindy comes crashing in and starts berating him much too loudly and Ari's still ranting in his ear and now the other three were slowly landing looking confused and Rick's feels so attacked right now -
"YOU!"
The sound of the Ravenclaw Seeker's voice broke through the argument and everyone whipped their heads around to stare. Ari, for once, looked absolutely speechless as the Seeker's speech slowly winded down - Rick was just glad the heat was off of him for a precious moment so that he could breathe.
When Kirin stepped forward to guide her Seeker off, Ari took a half step forward, his face twisted like he's bitten into a lemon. He's conflicted, on what Rick couldn't say. "Wait -"
"It's fine," Lindy said to Kirin, and Rick's brain rebooted, "Congratulations on the win. Good game." And then steadfastly ignored Rick's appalled gaping at her blatant steal of what was supposed to be the captain's congrats.
"Oh yeah, thank you for the concern earlier," Sterling tacked on, their tone still completely dead. They didn't sound genuine, but whatever comes out of their mouth was genuine because Sterling saw no point in not speaking their mind, so Rick was still surprised at the gratitude. Concern? Did he miss something? He didn't like that feeling.
Rick quickly cleared his throat and stepped forward, and he could practically feel the heat of the gazes on his back. "Yes, really good game," he said, forcing a smile on his face. He would say more, but just the thought of schmoozing up to someone he lost to made bile rise in his throat. "Until next time, then," he managed, before giving a nod and turning away. His clenched fists shook at his sides. The rain crawling down his skin was cold.
So. Angry. Rick couldn't help but feel it was all because of the stupid break-up - now Ari, Lindy, and even Sterling were angry with him. He'd already known that Lindy's sisterly love towards Ari was stronger than she'd ever admit, but Sterling? Rick knew they and Ari were sort-of friends (not even that - acquaintences who tolerated the other's existence? Or were they closer than he thought? Then he cared to find out?) but he'd never guess Sterling would go against him. He knew it was probably wise not to confront his team while bitter words were lying on his tongue, but he never was good at keeping his temper in check.
Which was probably why he and Ari ended up screaming at each other not too long after.
"Why do you care so much?" Ari yelled, as if yelling louder would somehow drive his words deeper into Rick's brain. "It's just a game!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot that you don't care about anything," Rick shot back, trying to inject his voice with as much chill as possible. Ari's eyes glittered with hurt.
"You always need to win, don't you?" Ari hissed, his tone twisting the words into something poisonous. He took one step closer, and he's in Rick's face, almost whispering. "Is that why you cheated on me, you b/stard? Was it all just some sick-a// game that you needed to win at in order to feel better about yourself? Were you that scared of losing?"
And Rick wanted to scream, no, that wasn't it at all, you beautiful idiot, I was afraid of losing you, but even he by now that he had been incredibly stupid - scared that Ari was drifting away, growing uninterested, Rick just kissed someone else. Passionately. Against a wall. In front of Ari. Just to get him jealous. Just to show him what he'd be missing, what he'd be losing.
Oh how it brilliantly backfired.
As Rick struggled to find something cold and cruel to say, Ari’s eyes burned with a vengeance. “You love to win so much,” he said, stepping as if to brush past Rick. “So how did it feel,” he said, his voice suddenly turning soft, like he was about to whisper a sweet nothing, “when I broke up with you first?”
Rick’s back went ramrod-straight. “I didn’t lose,” was the first thing out of his mouth, and at once he wanted to stuff it back into his mouth. It wasn’t a game, was what he wanted to say, but his anger leapt out and stole his tongue.
Ari barked out a laugh. “You like to think that, don’t you? I bet you’re not even over me yet.”
The smug arrogance in his tone set Rick’s blood on fire - absolutely not because it was true. “Don’t be ridiculous,” Rick scoffed, lifting his chin so that he could stare down at Ari. “I’ve already moved on. I’m not someone who’d linger when there are so many interesting other fish in the sea.”
Ari crossed his arms tighter across his chest. “Then prove it.”
“What?”
“Go fall in love with someone else,” he said. “Actual love. Not because they’re rich or because it’s convenient. Then come back to me and say you’re over it.”
It was petty, and it was silly, and Rick had every means to call Ari out on his cr/p, but Rick, too, was a prideful little sh/t. “Fine, then! But you have to go find someone too!”
”Excuse me?”
“I bet I could find someone before you,” Rick said, and he could practically feel any control he thought he had slipping through his fingers.
Ari wrinkled his nose. “Oh, no, I know you. You’re just gonna charm some random a//hole off the street and pretend.” Then something lit up behind his eyes - Rick knew that look. It was the Ari’s-Got-A-Bad-Idea look. “The Ravenclaw Seeker,” he said, and Rick knew what he was going to say.
“No,” Rick said, his stomach dropping. “You’re not telling me I have to -”
“Uh huh,” Ari said. “Kid’s got the sweetest heart, right after Seongjin. Asked me if I was okay. Me. A stranger. The competition. Who bit their head off during the game. Asked if I was okay.” He’s still got that stupid smile. “I bet you could do with learning how to love someone who’s actually kind.”
Rick gaped at him. “But - but - why’re you calling him I mean them a kid they’ve got to be older than you -”
“And they probably hate you right now,” Ari said with relish, “seeing how they kept ranting about how you’re swinging the Bludger and going around hurting their teammates.”
“You’re one shi//y b/stard,” Rick told him, and Ari’s smile twisted.
“I only learned from the best,” he said coldly.
Rick stared at him. Fine. “Okay, then,” he said. “Then you have to ‘learn to love’ the fifth-year you humiliated last September,” and then watched with sickly satisfaction as Ari’s smile dropped.
“You b/stard,” Ari said.
“Well,” Rick said, smirk icy cold. “I am the best, aren’t I?”
Ari stared at him, and Rick reveled in the pleasure of throwing his own words back in his face. “So,” Rick said, “what do I get if I win?”
Ari continued to stare. “I,” he said, “will admit you were right.”
Rick found himself staring back. It was ridiculous - he could probably ask for anything, in this emotion-fueled barter, but just the satisfaction from hearing “You were right” made his ego crow with delight. Because it was more than just Rick saying he could move on. It was that Rick was right.
“And if you win,” he said, “I’ll say you were right.”
Ari nodded, jaw stiff. “Deal.”
“Deal.”
They stared each other down. Deep down Rick knew it was stupid. It was petty. It was probably going to hurt more people than the two of them. But Ari was right.
He didn’t like to lose.
((haha so yeah wasn't actually expecting that bet but my charries surprise me sometimes also your characters are adorable and i’d love for our charries to keep interacting :3 sorry for introducing another charrie (the fifth year rick set ari up with) but i wanted to drag mycle in here somehow >.< so for the next scene, maybe class time? partner up for Potions? most likely different charries in different classes since they’re in different years oh yeah - rick: sixth year. lindy: sixth year. mycle: fifth year. seongjin: fifth year. sterling: fifth year. kat: fourth year. kondwani: fourth year. ari: fourth year. gaah my post is already really long so ill let you set up the classes/next scene if that’s ok w/ u))

(OOoooo just gotta say I love that. Good team blow out but all the dynamics of it all *thumb up emoji repeated like 1234 times* I'd love to see them all interact too! and I'm happy to see Mycle again, sweet boi! I also realized my recent post made it seem like Amberlee and Mason weren't already dating RIP. They are bc Mason asked her out, but she's stubborn and going to ask him out anyways?? I guess?? ...Also, what if someone tried to cheat using Amortentia? >> As for my charrie's years hmmm Kirin: Seventh year. Lincoln: Sixth year. Poni: Fifth Year. Vanessa: Fourth Year. Amberlee: Fifth Year. Mason: Fifth year. Markie: Sixth Year. Stetton (Previously unnamed keeper) : Seventh Year. )
Kirin didn't know what they had walked in on. It had been awkward, tense, and Lincoln had obviously dug himself into a hole. Tempers were high on that team, and she wanted her Seeker out immediately. She was happy to hear Sterling was alright, even if their tone didn't quite match that. With the quick interaction with Rick done, she figured teams wouldn't be shaking hands tonight. So, she'd kept a firm grip on Lincoln and pushed him back to their team. He'd looked back, but as soon as Amberlee had latched onto him, his attention had returned to the team.
Good. The kid didn't need to be in any sort of drama like that. Tonight was a night to celebrate.
"Who wants hot Cocoa?"
The chorus of 'OH ME!!!' brought a smile to Kirin's face.
~~~~~~~
The next day Lincoln would swear the cold had settled into his bones. He might live the rest of his life like this. Was this how he was going to die? Warm skin, warm blood, and ice bones? What a fate, what a traged- A boy from a bed over tosses a book his way and begs him to shut up. Lincoln flushes and covers his face. Great. He was speaking again. He'd honestly thought that had all been in his head. He mutters a quiet apology and works his way through his morning routine.
Getting up this early left him plenty of time to go into the common area and read all he wanted, or to sneak out and feel the dewy grass beneath his feet. Option one was his definite go to today. Fireplace, blankets, soft couch? Check! Option two? Cold, wet grass and frigid morning mist? Not on his agenda today. No sirree. If he was lucky Kirin would get up in a bit and make him some hot chocolate again. She'd taken to doing it for her teammates, and it was another perk for being on the team. Lincoln would argue Kirin made better hot chocolate than his own grandmother. As Lincoln flips through his bestiary he can't help but wonder if it would be worth it to go into the forbidden forest, or to poke around the lake by the Slytherin dungeon. A Unicorn or a Giant Squid would be cool to see. He contemplates this as he turns the page
~~~~~
Breakfast was somewhat of a debacle. The Ravenclaw table was noisy and Lincoln was getting a whole lot of attention he wasn't used to that. Most people in his year knew what topics to avoid so they wouldn't get an hour long ramble from him, they had learned which topics were safe. Some of the students had made it a sort of...lesson to share with other kids their age. It was amusing, but weird. So these younger students were swarming up to him and asking him all these questions and crowding and he was laughing awkwardly. He kept shooting Vanessa and Amberlee 'help me' looks, but both girls were having a ball. Their sweet little Lincoln wasn't used to being the center of attention~! How cute!
He was so happy when Kirin and Stetton practically shoved the other students out of the seat next to him, shared a look, and asked, "So, Lincoln, I heard there was a Kelpie sighting in the Black Lake-"
"I thought it was a Selkie!" Markie chirps.
"Markie, I thought it was a dragon!" Mason had chimed in, he ignores Amberlee's huff of 'hey let him suffer a bit!'
"Flying Seahorses, Mason, Markie, come on!" Poni shouts.
"Actually Kirin-" Lincoln goes to correct, but as the rest of the team interjects he shakes his head and digs through his bag for his book, "Well, Poni isn't wrong about the sea horses, but the rest of you-"
The sixth years shared a collective groan, and Kirin and Stetton give each other a small high five.
~~~~~~
Kirin and Stetton had managed to drag the rest of the team to providing Lincoln some mock protection for the rest of breakfast, and then between classes. Yet here he was now in Potions with the Slytherin group. Markie had surprisingly not been his guard for the trip to this class, and he was honestly eager to kind of shoo them away. They made it a bit difficult to read. Markie was going to be late to this class, as was to be expected from Markie, and so Lincoln was claiming this table with his stuff all over the table. No Ravenclaw's besides Markie were going to sit with him if he could help it. Thankfully everyone else he recognized from his house was seated and seemed content with their table partner. Did he dare move his stuff back....?
Lincoln looks around skeptically and moves his bag closer and lets out a sigh of relief. The Slytherin's were coming in and he doubted any of them would be sitting with him, and if they did they would probably wouldn't stay long.
~~~~~
Poni, along with Vanessa, were keeping Markie behind. Poni did not want to be trapped with Amberlee and Mason as they made goo-goo eyes in Transfiguration.
"Markie, just let me go sit with Lincoln and you can take my place."
"Uh, no thanks. As much as I don't like the blabbing, I don't like the heart eyes and the lovey dovey blabbing." Markie Rolls her eyes. Vanessa dips her head and agrees.
"C'mon Lincoln isn't that bad." Poni huffs. They were mean on the guy at times!
"No, he isn't" Markie shrugs and agrees, her smile goes wicked, "But~! That's exactly why I am sticking with him while you are going to be stuck with the love birds. Anyways, have fun, the Slytherin's are heading this way. The puppy dog from last night is leading the pack."
Vanessa cackles, but gets shushed as Markie makes a shooing motion, "Hey, as a sixth year I'm telling you to get your fourth year a// to class!"
Now it's Poni's turn to laugh as Vanessa turns tail and bolts. Markie shoots Poni finger guns and begins to saunter on her way. Poni pouts. Markie was right though, the Slytherin's were coming this way. They were sure seeing a lot of the Slytherin's these last few days. What was that one's name, the nice chatty one? Seongin? That seemed correct. She waves down the hall at him, hesitates, and finally settles with, "Didn't get to say good game last night, but you got some nice shots in! Good job Seongin." She waves again and slinks back into class. Amberlee and Mason had their table already set out and were staring into each others eyes and saying cute disgustingly in love things to each other.
~~~~~~~
Vanessa meanwhile was surrounded so thoroughly surrounded at her Ravenclaw table. While she was was the only fourth year on her team, she had quite the gaggle of friends in her grade. She was never alone and she enjoyed that a lot. The fact they were in Divination? A plus. She was excellent in doing readings in that class. She'd heard someone try and call her a Seer, and she had scoffed. She wished, but that wasn't quite the case. She just had found it interesting as a child and had studied hard. Her friends often tried to get her to do readings whenever they got tea, which wasn't quite... the same deal. Her gaggle was causing a bit of ruckus, and she was happy to encourage that even at the ire of their professor.
"Yeah, Lincoln? Never shuts up. Not a bad kid, but just...chatty. It's a wonder he's so good at what he does with how scatter brained he is!" She chuckles and waves her hand, "I mean, the sixth years are right about him. Talk about certain things and he just...is gone. Flits between topics faster than a fairies wings can beat- speaking of which, that's the whole reason he's our Seeker. Flew in trying to catch a Fairy and caught the Snitch instead. Isn't that silly?" She was eating up the attention with a laugh.
(I'm not sure whether to respond with Stetton and Kirin because they are older than the rest @_@;;; )
((mwehehe :3 gah they'll all so cute
ooh, i was thinking about one of them cheating - but id say it'd be pretty unlikely for different reasons. ari just simply wont cross the line. rick is an a// but he's a prideful a// who won't go for amortentia in fear of judgement if he gets caught - then again, he's still likely to go for it just to win if he gets desperate enough... we'll see ~))
Rick was more than pleased to find his target sitting partner-less in Potions. He was cheerfully heading over and was just about to claim the seat when a book plopped onto the desk that was most certainly Not His Book.
“Hello,” Lindy said with a warm smile down at Lincoln. “Mind if I sit here?”
Rick couldn’t believe he used to think Lindy was his friend. He tried to shoot her a betrayed look but then she turned to look at him, and the threat hiding behind her smile sent him scrambling to the seat right behind them, irritation grumbling in his stomach.
“Lincoln, was it? Good catch yesterday - got me a little worried that you were going to slam into the hoops for second there, though. You okay?” he heard Lindy say in her naturally friendly tone right front of him and Rick wanted to growl but that would be weird, so he just rested his head on his arms and glared holes into the back of Lindy’s head.
He was planning to eavesdrop and not stare too creepily when he noticed Lindy’s hand fall to her side, then back towards him inconspicuously. Seeing the note in her hand, he just as sneakily reached out as if just casually throwing his arm over the desk to grab it. With Lindy distracting Lincoln, Rick would be very impressed with the other’s observational skills if he caught the note-passing technique Rick and Lindy has practically perfected.
He brought his hand back as if to ruffle his hair and then dropped his hand - and the note - to his desk. Upon unfolding it, Rick felt his lips fold into a triangle of displeasure.
I saw you staring like you always do when you have a target. This kid will NOT be your rebound, got it?
Geez, what was it about this Seeker that’s caught everybody’s attention? Kid? He’s the same age as you, he thought as hard as he could at Lindy’s head.
Oh, yeah, other problem, now apparently he’s got Lindy’s on his tail whilst struggling to gain the Ravenclaw’s affections. Ugh, was he that obvious? Ah well - he’s still sitting behind them. Hearing every word. Wasn’t ideal, but it was a start.
--
Seongjin practically lit up at the sound of Poni’s voice directed at him. “Really? Thanks! You did super well too!” he said, happily bouncing after her. Kat laughed as he dragged her with him, since her arm was still looped around his neck. Meanwhile, Sterling shuffled in and looked around, searching for the sound of a specific someone’s breath.
“Mycle.”
Sterling’s fellow Slytherin yelped as they jumped high in their seat, dropping their Transfiguration textbook loudly on the desk, and whirled around to find Sterling staring dispassionately at them. “You scared me,” they said weakly, a hand over their pounding heart.
Sterling tilted their head. “I merely said your name.”
“While standing behind me. Not making a sound beforehand. Sounding like you’re about to kill me,” Mycle pointed out patiently, an amused smile on their face.
Sterling thought this over, a firm frown gracing their features. “Still.”
“Did you need something?”
“You were making a strange face at two of the players on the Ravenclaw team,” Sterling said. Their tone was not anything but observational, but Mycle’s face heated up anyway. Their gaze darted to the corner of the room as they covered their face.
“They’re cute together,” they mumbled through their sleeves.
“What.”
“The way they look at each other…” There’s a wistful look on their face. “Sorry, sorry, I’m a bit of a romantic, ignore me.”
“Romance? Ah. Do you wish to join their romance?”
Mycle squeaked. “Huh? What? No! I don’t know them! At all!” Their voice grew higher in pitch at the same rate they were sliding down their chair.
“You were making the same face as they are making to each other to demonstrate affection,” Sterling said.
“No, it’s different,” Mycle’s voice drifted up from their desk. “It’s like - I want romance in my life, and I go all goopy inside when I see it around me, that’s all.” They peek up, hands on the edge of their desk. “I mean, I’m not against it - I’m polyamorous and everything but. I can’t imagine one someone liking me enough, let alone more, you know?”
“No, because that’s ridiculous,” Kat said, and Mycle shrieked as they toppled out of their chair.
“Hello Kathleen,” Sterling said as they watched the fourth year smilingly haul Mycle back to their seat, the poor child looking like their soul’s been tossed out their body.
“‘Sup,” Kat said, gesturing behind her at Seongjin, who’s plopped himself amongst Ravenclaws. “Seongjin’s making friends again. It’s boring.”
“Kat, you can’t just jump out of nowhere like that,” Mycle groaned, burying their face in their hands.
“And you can’t keep putting yourself down like that,” Kat replied, pressing a finger against the whorl of their hair and grinding it unforgivingly. “It’s annoying.”
“Aren’t you a fourth-year? Why are you here?” Sterling said as Mycle began making alarmed sounds and whacking at Kat’s hand.
Kat sighed again, sparing Mycle a hole in their head as she rested her chain on her fists. “I’ve got Divination with Ari, and I think he’s up to something…”
--
Ari leaned in from behind Vanessa and deadpanned, “F/cking knew kid’s not a Quidditch player.”
A couple of Vanessa’s friends shrieked at his sudden appearance, which made him grin a little before said grin died. He shoved someone off their chair to pull up next to Vanessa - at the sound of a protest he whipped around and hissed. With the horribly dark circles under his eyes and the sheer animalistic sound that slipped through his teeth, he scared them off quick.
“So, Lincoln. That’s his name, isn’t it? And it’s he/him, good to know,” he said, leaning a hand on his palm as if he’s about to fall asleep at the table. “Me too. Don’t care how I look, I use he/him pronouns so f/ckin’ use them. Anyway, you know Lincoln, don’t you?” he said, gesturing lazily at Vanessa. “Need to talk to you ‘bout him. His existence is puzzling and that bothers me.” He wrinkled his nose. “Why’s he so…” he proceeded to gesture uselessly, “... nice?”
((lol kondwani’s chillin in the wings too - im sure they’ll sneak their way in somehow x3))
Honestly, Lincoln had zoned out for a few minutes. The door had opened and he had expected Markie to walk in, but instead it had been Rick. He shouldn't have been too surprised seeing as they were with the Slytherin's today. Seeing as they had no real reason to interact he had gone and looked right back down at his book. He scribbled a little note in the margin- this book was a bit out dated, that term was considered a slur for that race now. For this creature on another page, whatever biological function that had been passed off as biology was actually recognized as being...well biology- but something that had been thought to be understood as a biological function was now seen as a magically influenced one. Interesting, really.
When the flat side of a book slaps down on his table, Lincoln visibly jolts and his head snaps up, "Hey, Marki-" Oh. That was not Markie at all. In fact Markie was walking into the classroom right now and was staring owlishly between Lincoln and Lindy.
"Uhm." Lincoln drags his gaze back up to her and offers her a hesitant smile. "I don't mind at all?" This was unexpected. Plus he had kind of gone off on her team yesterday okay he had gone off on Ari and it had ended up him fumbling and being concerned but STILL. "Lindy, right? We played against each other yesterday?" He catches Markie's eye again and the girl gives him a 'do you need help?' look, but Lindy is expressing concern and Lincoln shakes his head to Markie.
"It is Lincoln!" He beams. What a pleasant surprise at that! "Thank you- I admittedly... don't seem to have the knack for just catching it. Team calls me theatrical?" He didn't see it. He wasn't an actor, nor was he putting on a show. He just happened to have a few.. dramatic and whimsical catches, is all. Nothing else.
"I think I almost ran into something- or got hit by something- like five times during that game." He's scratching his cheek and looking back down at his book. Not the best impression for a first game. "You did well yesterday too! It was a good game. Really close until I...tumbled into the win."
Oh
"Hey- How's your seeker- Ari? Kirin had to tell me his name. How embarrassing, I just stalked up there and yelled at him." He thwacks his book up into his face and groans
~~~~~~
Poni didn't think he'd actually bounce after her. It was kind of cute- scratch that thought she wasn't thinking about that. Let the Slytherin act like a puppy dog and defy the nature of the houses. It's fine. The boy dragged the other player.... Kaaat...? Kat. Yeah, Kat, with him and she gives Kat a little awkward wave as well. She wasn't in this class though, and after a few minutes of Seongin prattling on Kat seems to make a bolt away.
"Err... Your pal..bailed?" Poni stares around him to watch her retreating form, and then rights herself to look up at him. Was he just going to keep talking to her? He wasn't bad but.. uh. Well. She peeks over to Amberlee and Mason and grimaces. Actually, sitting next to a practical stranger/rival would be great compared to Amberlee's concerned cooing and mothering over Mason right now. ".... Want to sit together?" She offers. She could always use new friends, and hey, Seongin seemed nice. Plus she was morbidly curious how a puppy-dog guy like him ended up in Slytherin. Stereotypes aside.
Amberlee and Mason wouldn't even miss her presence until they noticed at lunch.
"Plus you're a rookie this year, right? Some stellar work out there, especially with the way the weather just..back stabbed us."
~~~~~~ "Well, I mean we've trained him so he kind of is a Quidditch player now." Vanessa says with a deadpan. She turns in her chair to face him and whistles, "You look like shi/, Ari. What happened?" She rolls her eyes at his aggressive attitude, her friends shift all of their chairs away from them and quickly start talking among themselves, a girl nervously leans over her shoulder, intent on keeping in on the conversation.
"Hey, if he goes by anything else, he's never corrected me, not that I spend too much time talking to the twerp. Thanks for the info, Ari, he/him pronouns, which will be f/kin used." She looks down at her nails and jerks her head with a huff, "I know enough about him, don't see why you think he's so puzzling. He's a know it all who happens to not be so pretentious about it. Nice? Why is he nice?" she practically cackles and leans back into the girl behind her, "Slytherin a little low on the nice factor, Ari? Lincoln's a sweet kid. Just is. Unless you say a wrong fact and want to fight him on it, then he'll drag you through the dirt. The boy loves his facts, likes his creatures more. Fought me for twenty minutes on the topic of gnomes. Gnomes, Ari. He gets so embarrassed afterwards though. Never calls names, apologizes a lot. Sad. Why are you asking? I thought he stormed up to your team to ream you a new one after the game. Was he aggressively concerned or something? That'd be just like him. You aren't looking for dirt on him so you can embarrass him or something for winning, are you?"
Vanessa's eyes narrow and her lip curls, "Because that's something I expect from Rick. The only people who get to make fun of Lincoln are other Ravenclaw's- nearly limited to this Quidditch team, you hear me? It's in good nature. I won't tolerate it from anyone else."
"So that's why you ripped Ashley a new one for calling him annoying?"
"Yes, Brooke, exactly. That isn't a Gryffindor privilege. We'll Lincoln teasing us soon enough, it'll be great, maybe he'll stop talking about Centaurs and dragons and start making actual friends."
Lindy laughed. "Theatrical's good! Theatrical's what I see every day almost. Some of my friends are very... extra." (Cue flashbacks of holding a yowling Ari up in the air with one hand and, with the other, more desperately holding back a knife-wielding Kat smiling at the Gryffindor who dared to punch Seongjin in the face. Seongjin's still crying, flung dramatically out in Kondwani's lap, who's cradling him like a kitten. Rick's laughing in the background. Sterling, calmly violating all rules between technology and magic, records the whole thing and uploads it to their group chat.)
"Aw, buddy," Lindy said sympathetically upon hearing how Lincoln nearly ran into/got hit by something multiple times. "That's Quidditch for you - to tell the truth, it's why I'm Keeper. All I have to do is stay by the hoops - staying faaar away from the craziness by keeping still in the middle of it all, y'know?" She grinned at him. "Hey, seriously, no worries about that. Ari needs a good yelling at from time to time. Heck knows I've given him a good earful now and then." Lindy rolled her eyes with a sigh. "He's a handful. I'd know, he's practically my brother. Step-brother, technically, but you know. So, you're new this year, right? How's practice been treating you?"
Rick quietly seethed in the back. Curse Lindy and her social skills.
As he tried to figure out a good place in the conversation to sneak in, his eyes traveled over to the Ravenclaw girl standing in the doorway who, by the way she was staring at Lincoln and Lindy, was probably planning to sit the seat Lindy stole. Recognizing her as one of the players on the team, Rick got an idea.
He waved to her, putting on his most disarming smile. "Hey, you can sit over here." Right behind Lindy. Who stole her seat. "Class is about to start," he added, inclining his head towards where the professor was setting up at the front.
--
((lol better have mycle meet them x3))
"Mycle, you should go sit with them," Kat said suddenly.
Mycle started. "Huh? What? Who?"
"The couple you two were talking about," Kat said, already hauling them up to their feet.
"H-huh?" Mycle yelped as they fumbled for their crutches. "Where - where did that come from -!"
"I've been ordered to by my demon overlord."
"Haha," Mycle said dryly as they hobbled a little due to Kat's insistent tugging on their arm. "You just want to watch me embarrass myself. And get Sterling to record it and upload it to the group chat."
Kat shrugged, not bothering to deny it. Mycle knew her too well. "You are my main form of entertainment."
"Yay."
"Honestly you should join the Quidditch team group chat. There's this hilarious video of me stabbing a guy. Well, almost stabbing a guy. Lindy turned the butter knife into kale, which isn't nearly as satisfying. Do you know how hard it is to break skin with kale?"
"Uh, I'll pass."
"Oh, right, Ari's on there," Kat said casually. A quiet, high-pitched scream streamed out of Mycle's mouth and they covered their burning face with their arm. "Pity you two don't talk. You know everyone else on the Slytherin team - well, almost everybody. Except for like Rick and Seongjin and Kondwani -"
"That's like half the team..."
"- but no matter! You'll get to know them quickly once you meet them," Kat said. "Later though." Then she casually flung Mycle into Mason's lap. Literally. Flung. Mycle screamed out loud and his crutches went clattering. "Oops." She giggled. "Sorry, Mycle, but I gotta go and rip out a toad's entrails for Divination. Later!"
Then she was swinging out the door, still laughing, leaving Mycle to quietly die in embarrassment.
((kat's nuts i love her))
--
(("let the slytherin act like a puppy and defy the nature of the houses. its fine" lol soon he'll make his house proud))
"She's somewhere. Probably killing a toad to study its entrails," Seongjin said with an easy shrug and smile, as if such things were normal at Hogwarts. (It's not.) "Divination's her next class." His eyes lit up. "I'd love to sit together! Yes!" He happily hopped into the nearest seat and gestured to the one next to him, beaming. "I don't bite, promise!"
He nodded enthusiastically. "Yep!!" he said so cheerfully you could practically hear the double exclamation marks. "And thank you!! The rain really came out of nowhere, like -" he gestured with a burst of movement, his accent growing more pronounced "- whoosh! Bam! Luckily there wasn't any lightning - someone might have gotten really hurt! I might have already told you already but you did really well! When you scored with Vanessa and made the ball go pheew - it was really cool!"
Then he suddenly slumped on his desk, a forlorn look on his face. "Still... I'm the oldest new person and came in as a fifth year and my dongsaengs are soooo much better at flying than me... I mean Ari-ya needs to work on his temper but even though he's the youngest he's the best out of all of us. I'm jealous."
He tilted his head. "Oh - what's your name, again? I want to make sure I've got it right."
--
"I always look like sh/t," Ari said solemnly. The dark circles under his eyes somehow grew even darker. He seemed to notice and take pleasure in the fact that the others have noticeably shifted away from his increasingly grumpy presence. "And thank you. There's nothing I hate more than being misgendered." He paused and thought about. "Actually never mind I take that back, I hate stupidity and mindless obedience even more. Anyway."
Ari proceeded to listen intensely, not taking his eyes of Vanessa. "Interesting," he said after she finished. "He did come up to tell me off - and, somehow, while doing so, managed to compliment me, ask me if I was okay, and then back off apologizing while saying I was right - I mean he also said I was wrong too but that's not important - so yeah. Puzzling." His eyebrows furrowed. "I'm serious when I say he actually sounded genuine. I'd actually believe you when you say he's sweet and that's just how he is - I've been trying to figure out ulterior motives and I can't figure out something solid." He huffed and leaned back. "It's just frustrating - there's no way someone can be that straightforward. It defies human nature. The 'nicest' people I know are either schmoozing for praise to comfort his fragile ego, highly skilled manipulators who will have you dropping everything to wipe away a single tear, or straight up sociopathic. So what's his angle?"
He wrinkled his nose. "Oh yeah, don't clump us all together. I'm not not-nice because I'm a Slytherin - I'm not nice because I'm me, shut up. The nicest people I know are Slytherins - 'nice' just doesn't mean 'good.'" There's something bitter, something sad. "And I'm not that petty. I don't give a sh/t about winning Quidditch - Lincoln was right, my head wasn't in the game at the time so that didn't count. I'm just - just trying to figure him out. I guess."
Ari straightened up. "Oh yeah, what do you mean, 'actual friends'? How does someone like that not have friends?" He tilted his head, suddenly looking less like a snarling cat and more like an inquisitive puppy. "And why does he have to stop talking about his interests to have friends?" There was a strange defensiveness in his tone that surprised even him.
"That's... good to hear." Lincoln scratches at his cheek and chuckles. He wasn't theatrical often, he felt, but it seems whenever it was important he was a bit more prone to it. He blinks when Lindy seems to have a moment of...reminiscing. Seems... she had some sort of fun memory about that.
"I mean, I guess that is Quidditch.. Probably why I avoided it all up until this year." It had so much going on and there was so much moving. Lincoln was used to his mostly stagnant lifestyle with reading- until he got adventurous and poked his head places he wasn't supposed to- Which reminds him. He flips his book open for a moment and taps a note in the margin. Right. He had a plan, and right after a game was as good as a time as ever because practice would be lenient for a day or two. "I hadn't planned on getting my position, you know? I kinda..fell into it. It's fun, I guess? I'm... just very new. As a Keeper don't you get a lot of things chucked at you though?"
Lincoln shuts his book and looks back up Lindy with a sheepish expression, "I mean, even if you think he needs it.. Looks like you guys were in the middle of something intense, you know? I just barged on it- but he's a more skilled Seeker than me, and he seemed distracted, so I thought maybe I'd rambled and said something bad- but it was obvious that he had something else on his mind, and during a game that can be kinda dangerous-" breath "and if I- in my right state of mind- can nearly run into a pole or two or get hit by a bludger than when he is distracted-" breath "He could definitely get in some sort of trouble, you know? I hope we get to play again so I can see what he can really do because I bet he's pretty impressive- your whole team seems really good- not that my team isn't good- because they are you know, I'm like the only newbie on the team so of course they're all skilled-" Lincoln pauses, face a little red and he fidgets. "Sorry." He clears his throat, "I do that. Uhm. Practice is good. It's a lot to take in, and without the previous Seeker really being able to teach me I.. have a bit of a learning curve." He offers her a small shrug, "I heard your team was pretty secretive with training this year, not a bad idea, keeps teams on their toes."
Markie gives Rick a bit of a skeptical look, but he wasn't wrong. Class was about to start. So with a little shrug to herself she marches her way over and plops into the seat. She can already see Lincoln reaching his babbling phase and purses her lips. Yup. He could do that. Looks like he was pretty flustered over it this time too? He hadn't even been fighting, what do you know. "Err, thanks Rick. Nice game?" She offers. Why the heck did that Lindy girl take her seat? She sat there all the time. Even before Lincoln had joined the team she'd him as her partner. Maybe she just wanted to get away from Rick. ... ... She gives him a look. Maybe.
(Kat seems like such a card lololol)
Amberlee and Mason had been pretty involved in their conversation. Hearts were practically floating as they waxed poetry about each other. Still no asking out on the other party yet, but she was going to make it perfect- preferably when he wasn't injured. Normally Poni would be sitting somewhere here, uncomfortable, and third wheeling- she didn't care to interject often- but she wasn't.
"Now that one time, Amber-"
"Mason, no! Don't bring that up!"
"You were so sill-OH!" Mason yelps as a classmate is- well to be frank- flung into his lap. His arms shoot up in alarm and he gawks at them. "Er... hello there?" Mason can't help but laugh when he finally collects himself. "That was quite an entrance, are you alright there, bud?"
Amberlee is already bristling in her seat, Mason was hurt! Mason however was having none of that and gave her thigh a soft squeeze, "It's alright, Lee, hun," He flashes her a smile, "Not their fault, aint that right, bud? Hun, will you grab his crutches?"
"...Sure." She side eyes Kat as she leaves the classroom cackling. Double rude. She huffs and snatches the crutches up and sets them in the seat next to Mason, "Here you go, dude."
"You alright, Mycle, right?" Mason keeps on smiling as he helps Mycle sit up, even as Amberlee frets on his other side about his injury, "Hun, it really isn't that much, just a bruise."
~~~~
(That is so..ominous lol x'D )
"...That sounds... lovely?" It didn't. Poni tries her best to offer a grin, but it comes out a little awkward. Toads probably liked to keep their insides...inside. "Oh, he's with Vanessa then. Vanessa is like a pro at divination. Little snobby about it though, I swear she's actually nice?" Vanessa was almost stereotypical cheerleader status, but she..mostly had a good heart. Sometimes she was a little..sneaky, but Vanessa liked being smarter than others and liked knowing more than she should- socially. She was great at playing dumb though. "Haha.. alright. I trust you about that."
Poni takes the seat next to Seongin and can't help but giggle. He was so perky. His bubbliness has her laughing and making noises as she recaps with him, "Okay, but when you went like whoom- right through there and made that score? It was like woah!"
Oh boy. It seems he does have an off switch. She reaches over and pats him on the back, "Hey, everyone starts at a different time, ya know? I mean, Lincoln is older than you and he's a rookie too. It's practice that really makes the player. Plus, he plays a different position than you, so it's not like you can really compare, right? You guys are training for different things" She gives him a final pat and leans back in her seat, "Oh, don't worry about it. My names Poni, kinda like.. Pon-knee? Spelled like Poni with an I instead of an Y"
~~~~
"Damn, aint that the truth." Vanessa gives him a flat stare, "Twenty hours of sleep and a spa treatment could do you some wonders." She visibly leans back from him. Were those bags under his eyes contagious or something? She worked hard to NOT look as tired as she often felt. She waves a finger at him, "Stupidity is pretty damn annoying. I'll agree with you on that too."
Did he....ever look away? It was weird being stared at so intently. "He usually manages to do a lot all at once whenever he speaks, because he says a lot. No other house has seen how he can be, ok? He's nice, genuine. Yeah. I don't think he would ever intentionally misdirect or harm anyone...ever? What does he have to gain from it anyways. Lincoln wants to get his schooling done and... go research creatures or something? Or research...research? You know, I haven't ever asked him." She shrugs.
"Fine fine. Every Slytherin is unique, and stereotypes aren't a good classification for students within the house." She waves her hand and rolls her eyes, "At least you know you're not nice. Why. Ari. Why would you want to figure him out?" She leans forward, "See, the team? We're still trying to figure him out."
"See, thing is we don't know much about him. We're trying. He doesn't talk about himself a lot. 'oh Lincoln what's your favorite color?' 'Oh did you know there are these creatures called mantis shrimp have....some freaky range of color vision'. He has a few study buddies, but we interviewed them, they don't hang out outside of studying. So like, who does he hang out with? What does he do? We don't f///ing know. We invite him out to group things now and again and he says he's studying usually, and if he joins he kind of sits quietly." Kirin was making a point to know. She liked him. He could get distracted and chatter non-stop, but from what they have seen, he seemed alright. Vanessa was more eager to figure out the social enigma that was Lincoln, but hey, she had no problems with being his friend.
She leans back, hands held up defensively, "Hey, he doesn't have to. If he talked about something else though, and took a breath here or there, maybe people could contribute. I don't give a s///t about gnomes or the like, but he went and researched some sort of...muggle thing to use over bruises to cover them up when I got one in practice, that was pretty sweet, tittered on about how it reminded him of me. Cute really. All I'm saying, you're preaching to the choir, Lincoln is an social enigma, a nice one, and we want to be his friends."
