Prologue-
My mother always told me not to play with fire. She would tell me this over and over again anytime I felt the urge to stick a paw into the swirling, bright red and yellow flames. My brother on the other paw, well, he's very different from me. He would back away anytime he saw the flames, fear glistening in his eyes as if he saw something that I couldn't. The clan's medicine cat would light a fire every half and full moon using flint and dry moss. She would use berries and give us all markings on that night. It was my brother and I's turn to become a true member of the clan, Warriors. Seedripple, our medicine cat, had painted my silver tabby fur with bright orange and reds. The marks of a cat meaning to have a fulfilled life. I grinned confidently at the spotted she-cat and dipped my head. I turned to leave but she put a paw on my shoulder.
"Silverpaw." She whispered. "No matter where your destiny takes you, remember who you are." Seedripple flicked her slim tail and dismissed me. I left her den with an erie feeling but reassured myself that it was just her being emotional. She has been my friend for awhile now so prehaps she was worried I was going to stop talking to her once I've become a warrior. When I stepped outside, the fire was already lit in the middle of the camp. My brother, Wavepaw, looked slightly worried as he stood besides the flames. He had blue markings around his eyes, tips of ears, and back legs. Which meant he was destined to become a good hunter for the clan. I fell in beside my smaller littermate and gave him a small smile to reassure him. He looked back him and smiled back, nervously. Cats had began to gather around them. I could spot out my mother, our leader, Seedripple, and the deputy along with most of our other clanmates. Darkstar opened their muzzle to speak but before he could, Wavepaw stumbled into me. His eyes widened with dread and fear as I stumbled backwards into the fire. I stood in the middle of hungry flames that wrapped me up tightly. The pain if it was agony, but for some reason I didn't scream. I stood quietly in the fire and watched as the flames traveled along my markings made by the berry juice and burn away. Voices rang in my head and I shook to try to stop them. Some were my clanmates shrieking to get me out, but one voice stood out to me.
"They don't understand the meaning of this fire anymore. They don't make it in my memory. How dare they use my fire without remembering the one who gave it to them!" A furious she-cat hissed. "I'll show them what happens when they don't respect the gods!" The fire moved as if it were alive and wrapped itself around me completely. The smell of burning fur hit my nose. I looked down at my paws to see what was happening. My beautiful silver fur was gone and my paws looked painfully burnt. "You will be my example." The she-cat's voice rang. The fire died down and cats began to back away when I glanced up at them. A small beautiful She-cat stepped up in front of me, facing the clan. "Once my powers were used to destroy threats to this clan as well as kept them warm when the harsh snow fell. The cats would praise me and my fire for helping them and gave me offerings. But now my fire is no longer used for what I meant it's purpose to be and no more offering are made in my name. From now on, the only fire you will find will be destructive." The starry cat took one last look at me, smiled, and faded away.
I looked over at my friends and family. Their eyes screamed with fear as they looked at me. I wondered why until I looked in a nearby puddle. I had no patches of fur left and my whole body was covered in angry, red and blustering, burns. That wasn't the only thing though. Around me, a red and yellow glow pulsed outwards. I touched a bit of lone grass that was growing in the camp's ground. It shriveled up in a small fire.
"This is a goddess's curse." Seedripple told me. "I'm sorry Silverpaw, but it looks as if your destiny has changed for the worse."
