and it takes serious effort to get so many things that wrong ngl
I get that it's a different media portrayed to a different audience with constrained time but like can we keep a few themes and tropes? Like this thing doesn't even have a plot other than Light trying to Get That Girl and not get caught in the process. Like it starts with them trying to "save the world" but we all know it's just cuz he wants Mia.
Also L is stupid in this one, shows his face right off the bat, makes a bunch of stupid little oversights. It's not an "L vs Light conflict to show character flaws" it's more "L vs his own blinded ego self comes into contact with Girl Crazy Light who has no clue what he's doing at all"
I'm just frustrated that the anime/manga both can show these characters as intelligent, manipulative and working off of their own gains, not the others mistakes. and the show just takes the easy way out by letting them make all these errors and the other able to easily capitalize on these errors. and they think they can fill plot holes with gory deaths, swearing and lots of Mia x Light scenes? NAH MAN that's not how it works
anyways if it sounds like I'm complaining I'm not like I said I can appreciate the effort they put into this it does take skillz to botch a good plot that bad and it was entertaining. Also Ryuk would never throw away the cores of apples he always ate them. and we don't get to see a upsidedown Ryuk pretzel. or feet washing Quality Content. Or chained together Light and L fights (though they didn't do the second arc at all so I guess that would never have happened)

I saw it coming tbh I mean I know Light killed her in the end, but that was for HIS life, he still frickin loved her and didn't use her. L was dumb and not mysterious, Light was against killing the innocent even if they got in his way... like could they not keep their actual personalities at least???

haha yeah.
I guess I'm just really disappointed that they used character weaknesses to fill in for actual strategy and cunning. That was the best part of the original, watching their elaborate plans and deductions that the reader didn't even SEE until the two pointed it out.
But now Light's screaming in the marble scene pretty much sums up how much of a wimp he'll be and L actually gets emotional which is not in his character AT ALL.
The only thing I think I like better in the movie is the explanation of the orphanage and where L came from. They didn't do amazing, but I liked Watari's explanations of what happens there (even though that would make Near older than L from Watari's explanation, which I don't believe he was? But then again second/third arc didn't happen so it doesn't matter but his explanation, while good backstory, would never fit canonical timeline)
