NEWS: Ask if you'd like to be a mod! I have a feeling we'll be needing many. Find the discussion thread here (link pending).
Welcome to the universe of Omicron and Upsilon! To know more click here. In this game, you will control a Clan of cat-shifters, move them up the ranks, and fight for dominance in the wild!
Credit goes to Kat for the idea!
First things first, this is not going to be an easy game. Your cats will not always succeed and you will not always have good times within the Clan. Please keep that in mind when you join!
> J O I N I N G <
Joining is quite simple. You will post the name of your Clan and a short (or long) introduction, introducing what the Clan's structure is like, common features of the Clan, the MegaClan territory in which they reside, the Clan's territory, and what they are known for. This can be as long or as short as you want, in paragraph/bulleted/list form, or whatever you'd like. Clans are named "the Clan of [insert thing here]", but please try to keep it realistic. You also need to add whether you'd like to start on easy, medium, or hard mode (see below for more explanation on the modes).
> F I R S T -- C A T S <
When you join, you can start on three different modes: easy, medium, or hard. Easy mode grants you three cats to start out with: a leader, and two cats of any designation, plus ten herbs which you choose. Medium modes grants you two cats to start out with: a leader, and one cat of any designation, plus five herbs which you choose. Hard mode grants you only one cat, a leader, to start out with, and no herbs. Your first cat or cats will be randomly rolled, and will come with a picture of their feline form and a description of their human form. You choose the name, age, and sex/gender. Biological rank, however, will be rolled randomly, to make sure the numbers stay equal within the Clans.
> M E G A -- C L A N S <
There are four different mega Clans residing over each of the four territories. These are the Clan of Moor, Clan of Tree, Clan of Lake, and Clan of Swamp. Your Clan will reside in one of these four territories. Each Mega Clan has its own unique biome and prey opportunities.
The Clan of Moor, originally founded by Moorstar, rules over the moors and rolling hillsides of the Clan's territory. The land is very open and free. Most common prey found here is rabbits, game birds, and field mice. Less common prey includes songbirds, fish, and deer.
The Clan of Tree, originally founded by Treestar, rules over the towering evergreens and forests of the Clan's territory. This land is rugged and trees seem to close in on all sides. Most common prey found here is mice, songbirds, and deer. Less common prey includes fish, rabbits, and game birds.
The Clan of Lake, originally founded by Lakestar, rules over the lake and river flowing through the Clan's territory. This land is populated by water, and strong swimming skills are required here. Most common prey found here is waterfowl, birds of prey, and fish. Less common prey includes mice, songbirds, and rabbits.
The Clan of Swamp, originally founded by Swampstar, rules over the swampland in the corner of the Clan's territory. This land is incredibly difficult to live in, and is wet, damp, and cold. Most common prey found here is frogs, birds of prey, and fish. Less common prey includes mice, songbirds, and deer.

There are several ways to get new cats in the game, but the easiest way is through sending out a patrol of any kind. Certain patrols have a higher chance of finding a new cat, though they all have some chance. The next way is sending your leader to the Seeing Stone to ask the Ancestors for a new cat of a specific rank. You may only send a leader to the Seeing Stone ONCE every 7 days. Another way is by trading cats between Clans, which can be done in the action part of your post. You may trade or give another cat to another Clan by stating their Clan and Username, and which cat you are trading. Cats of any age may be traded. Leaders, however, cannot be traded. You can also get more cats by having two cats become mates, which is explained below.
> P A T R O L S <
There are several different kinds of patrols you may send out each day.
HUNTING - consisting of up to 12 cats, you may do this twice every six hours. They will come back with prey according to the quality of your post (see prey section for more information on this).
BORDER - consisting of up to 8 cats, you may do this twice every six hours. They will do one of three things: encounter an enemy/ally, encounter a new cat, or encounter a random event. You will have choices which explain what to do in the case of each event, and the quality of your post will decide whether you succeed or fail.
HERB - consisting of your healer, healer's trainee (if you have one), and up to five omicrons/lambdas/rabbit feet, you may do this once every twelve hours. They will come back with randomly rolled herbs; how many there are depends on the quality of your post. You can bring back up to ten herbs total.
SCOUT - consisting of up to 2 cats, you may do this once every day. This patrol is guaranteed to encounter at least one cat; whether you convince them to join or not depends on the quality of your post.
> P O S T -- Q U A L I T Y <
As you have seen, your post quality determines many things. Your post quality is measured by what it sounds like: quality compared to the rest of your posts on site, NOT compared to others on the thread. You could write 1,000 words, but if it has no substance, it is likely to fail. Quality over quantity is preferred, though there are minimum word counts for certain things. Post quality is important while patrolling, finding new cats, and battling.
> N E W -- R A N K S -- & -- A G I N G -- U P <
Every time you post, your cats age up by three months (however, your in-character posts do not have to reflect this). Ages are measured in years and months, as they are half-human so they know what those words mean. They have human-length lifespans, and usually die at around 75-80 years old, if they do not die from something else before then. Ranking up happens as such:
Kit to Rabbit Foot: at 6 years old
Rabbit Foot to Lambda: at 16 years old
Lambda to Omicron: at 16 years old, after Omicron assessment
Omicron to Senior Omicron: at 45-50 years old
Senior Omicron to Elder: at 55+ years old
Healers may be any age, though healer trainees start out between 6-16 years old. Leaders are usually around 30-50 years old, and deputies are usually around the same age range. Does generally get pregnant between the ages of 16 and 55.
> M A T I N G <
Because in this world who gets pregnant is determined by biological rank and not gender, things are a bit more complicated. Generally speaking, Uppers cannot get pregnant, Middles can only get pregnant by Uppers and other Middles, and Lowers can get pregnant by anyone. For two cats to become mates, simply make a post with one or both of them declaring their matehood, and then I will timeskip to when the fertile rank of the two is pregnant. Pregnancy lasts nine months in-game, so three posts. Cats will have between 1 to 5 kits, though having 5 is incredibly uncommon.
The following genotypes will result in the following sexes being born:
Two cats with XX chromosomes mating will result in all XX chromosome offspring.
A cat with XY chromosomes and a cat with XX chromosomes mating will give a 50% chance of XX and a 50% chance of XY.
Two cats with XY chromosomes mating will give a 50% chance of XY, 25% chance of XX, and 25% chance of YY (infertile male offspring).
> D E A T H <
Death is common in this world. Your cats can die from old age, in childbirth, be stillborn, from wounds left untreated for 4 days, from severe wounds even if they are treated, and from starvation if they are not fed for 4 days.
> H E A L I N G / H E R B S <
If you begin on easy or medium mode, you will get either ten or five different herbs to start out with. You can use herbs from here or here, if they are listed twice (once on each site) with different effects, you can choose either one of the effects. If a cat is sick or injured, to successfully heal them, you should have the herbs necessary and include a post of at least 150 words.
> T R A I N I N G <
Rabbit feet must be assigned a mentor when they come of age. Mentors may only mentor one rabbit foot at a time, and rabbit feet may only have one mentor at a time. Before a rabbit foot can become an omicron, they must be at least sixteen years old, and must have completed at least ten training sessions. You may train in hunting, fighting, patrolling, or for healer's trainees, herb finding and healing. Every successful training session will improve your cat's chances at survival. For a training session to be successful, it should be at least 150 words.
> A L L I E S <
You may ally with another user's Clan, even if they are under a different MegaClan. You do not have to share borders to do this. Allies may be made at borders (if you share them) or at gatherings. You may trade cats, herbs, and prey with allies, but never with enemies. Allies must be agreed on by both players.
> E N E M I E S <
You may make enemies with another user's Clan, even if they are under the same MegaClan. You do not have to share borders to do this. Enemies may be made at borders (if you share them) or at gatherings. Enemies fight often, and can launch raids on another Clan's camp. Raids may steal pregnant does, kits, herbs, prey, or kill other cats. However, this is not without consequence, as the raiding Clan may be attacked as well. The quality of your post will depend on how well you do, however battle posts should be at least 250 words.
> F O R B I D D E N -- R O M A N C E <
Forbidden romances are either romances between a healer without an apprentice and another cat, or two cats from different Clans. If these pairings result as kits, some cover-up should be made to explain them, unless, of course, you want them to be found out. Parents may be exiled if discovered, though this is up to the poster.
> H U N T I N G <
The number of cats you send out on a hunting patrol will determine what you bring back. Prey brought back is determined by the MegaClan you are located in. Cats have a small chance of being injured when taking on large prey. Adult cats eat 2 servings per day, rabbit feet/lambdas eat 1 serving, and kits eat 1/2 of a serving after they reach the age of 1 year. The number of servings = number of cats needed to kill the prey.

Rabbit - 2 servings
Hare - 2 servings
Field mouse - 1/2 serving
Rat - 1 serving

> G A T H E R I N G S <
Gatherings are held once every two weeks and have a special plotline attached to them. This will be announced at the time of the gathering. The next gathering will be on Tuesday, September 11, 2017 at 5:00 PM EST. It will run from 5:00 PM EST until 5:00 AM EST.
> R A N D O M -- E V E N T S <
Random events may be rolled any time you make a post, you have a 15% chance of running into one. The exact variables are hidden only to the admin and moderators, but you may get anything from a new cat to a random cat falling ill.
If I have forgotten something, please politely let me know! Below is a list of Clans, and the mods assigned to them:
