I'm pretty sure my grandparents house up by Oroville burned down. Update: It did. ![](http://i.imgur.com/R5WeFj8.jpg?1) All that's left. second cousin who lived up there had to evacuate. He only had enough time to load his dogs into his truck, grab his wallet and leave. He didn't even have a shirt on. He looked back and he saw flames over the top of 100 foot tall trees. The neighbors house, only a few hundred yards down the road, burned to the ground. The lady who lived there is in Sacramento, but her boyfriend and dogs were there. All of them are missing. We were literally just there a week ago... I talked to Larry. He gave us plums from his garden. He seemed nice. And now he's missing. All of us are preparing for the worst. If its gone, we lost many priceless, irreplaceable photos and antiques. Once the fire is contained/out, were driving down to assess the damage. We cut down trees and brush around the house, but there's still about a 98% the house that my grandfather was raised in is just a pile of ashes. The thought of a place where so many happy memories were made reduced to ashes... It feels weird. Like a pit in my stomach. And the missing person and animals... I just talked to them...

And it's been confirmed.
Every house up there is gone.

My grandparents live in Oregon with me. My grandpa inherited that house when his dad died a few years ago. My second cousin who lived next door evacuated yesterday evening. He and his dogs are staying with another relative. Still no word from the neighbors. I certainly hope they're okay. No one lived in that house full time. It was a sort of va action home. But the other people actually did live up there. This fire isn't nearly as devastating for us. The neighbors lost their homes.

Update:
Bruce and Leslie (neighbors who travel a lot and we weren't sure if they were home or not) were in fact home and got out safely.

That's horrible that so many things and tangible memories were lost but I'm glad the people and pets are safe.

The house we lost was fully furnished. Because of the high fire danger there was no insurance so we've lost thousands of dollars along with the priceless antiques and photos.
But 10 houses have burned. 4 of them were on my family's property, and only one of those was lived in full time.
Which still leaves Bruce and Leslie, Doug (cousin), Kelly and Sam along with at least 3 other people homeless. And 500 buildings are still threatened.
But as of right now everyone I know (including pets) is safe. And for that I am grateful.

A friend of the family went up and took pictures after it was safe to go look at the remains. All that's left is the chime by and an old water tank.

Explains all the smoke outside. Jeez. This is in California, not Oregon. My grandpa inherited 20 acres from my great grandparents when they died. That's what burned.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Clementine. At least the person was arrested and everyone seems to at least be safe, but I still feel bad for you and all those people. Wish there was something I could do to help.

Hey is there any way we could donate to help rebuild or replace stuff for y'all? Like a gofundme or something?
|
|
|
Post by Deleted on Aug 31, 2017 15:45:05 GMT -5
I believe a gofundme was set up for Doug (cousin), by the person he's staying with. As for everyone else, I don't know. I'll ask my grandpa when he comes home from work, he should know.

There are gofundmes up for the victims of this fire.
If you go to gofundme and search for ponderosa fire, at least 2 will pop up.
I've never actually used gofundme before so I'm not entirely sure how to navigate the website to find specific ones if I don't know what they're called.

I'm really sorry about that. I'm glad everyone is safe and that someone got arrested, but the damage was still done. I hope they all recover well.
