Roselight sprang, claws outstretched. Just as she managed to sink her claws into the thrush, she saw a dark flash before something collided with her. She tumbled away, losing her hold on the catch. How dare that mousebrain get in her way! She decided she'd deal with whomever did it afterwards. She didn't even bother to find out who it was and leapt to her paws in moments, pelting after the fleeing injured bird. It attempted to fly away, but it's movements were awkward and delayed from already being injured. It was gaining height, and she knew she didn't have much longer to catch it. Roselight put on an extra burst of speed, and leapt into the air just managing to catch her claws on it's upper leg and pulled it back to the ground, giving it a killing bite. She panted heavily as she stood over the bird, it's blood fresh in her mouth. She scowled as she stared down at it. It was imperfect, not only was it rather slim, but it also messily caught. It wasn't a clean catch as it would've been if she hadn't been inturrupted. "That bird almost got away! That is why prefer to hunt alone... -because mousebrains like you come along and ruin everything," she called into the air, her voice dripping with menace.

Yew let out a deep growl towards the warrior. That was the first piece of decent prey he had come across in a week! Of course some clan cat would have come across the same prey and stolen it from him. He gave chase, running as fast as he could though he was no match for Roselight. Yew was built for strength and for fighting, there was little else that his rather massive frame would allow him to be good at. The loner noticed that she hadn't eaten the bird yet, and assumed she had intended to bring it back to camp with her. Rather than come to a halt and have a conversation, Yew simply put all of his weight forward and dove straight for Roselight. Swinging for the warrior's head with one paw, he aimed to sink his claws into her back with the others. He just hoped she wasn't quick enough to dodge. "I would say the same for you. You foolish warriors think you own this forest and everything in it!" Usually he wouldn't start a fight like this, but he knew if he let Roselight get away the thrush would be gone forever. Then he'd have to struggle to find and successfully catch another bit of prey, and with his hunting skill that was a lot harder than just fighting for food.

Roselight whirled around to face whatever clan cat had been foolish enough to interrupt her hunt. She was taken off guard when the tom swung at her head, and the blow glanced off the side of her head, stunning her momentarily, giving him enough time to sink his claws into her back. She yowled in pain, and glared up at Yew with piercing green eyes. It was a rouge! How could she have been so foolish!? A warrior should always be prepared for this situation! She mentally reprimanded herself for not paying enough attention. Quickly calming herself, she entered a state of quiet calculation. The tom was most certainly strong... She didn't know if she could summon the strength to push away from the hefty cat. For now she'd have to distract him. "This forest is where we live and hunt. It's what we live off of; it's our home. You are the one who is foolish enough to invade that home!" she hissed, pushing her back against him, hoping it would be enough to unbalance him so she could free herself.

(Sorry for the poof.)
Yew smirked down at the warrior when she turned to glare at him, realizing he had caught her off-guard. "I haven't invaded anything, this is my home too! I've lived here practically all my life." The yellow loner spoke in a snarl, angry that it seemed he could never get anything done without some clan cat getting in his way. He hadn't been expecting Roseflight to be so calm, figuring that he would easily overpower the she-cat while she was flustered. Her sudden movement startled Yew, and he quickly rolled away before she could throw him off. After a moment's hesitation Yew threw himself not at the Roseflight but the thrush. After all, he had left his den looking for a meal not a fight. Now it was just a matter of getting away from Roseflight with the thrush so he could eat.

(It's fine! ^^ I'm very poofy too!)
"If you had been living within our territory that long, then you would've been caught trespassing by now!" Roselight sprang to her feet, her fur standing up on end. Her heart raced and thumped in her ears, but her mind was clear as she reassessed the situation. He was strong, but he was easy to irritate, which might or might not help her later. She didn't have much time to look the rouge over, because he was lunging for the thrush. "Oh no you don't!" She hissed, launching herself towards him, claws unsheathed. As soon as he was at the thrush, she was there, and batted rapidly at his head, hoping to at least disorient him.

Yew opened his mouth to respond to Roselight, but shut it quickly as the quicker she-cat met him at the thrust at struck at his head. The tom growled, covering up the already-scarred right side of his face. He didn't need to lose the sight in his injured eye, it was already hit or miss as it was. The loner countered with a powerful swat of his one, a bit dazed by the blow to his head but certainly not out of the battle. "Those clanmates of yours certainly didn't teach you to fight did they?" He taunted before leaning in to bite at her neck. It seemed she wasn't willing to give up the prey to avoid a fight, and since she was significantly faster Yew knew he would need to defeat the warrior if he wanted his meal.

Roselight hissed and took a step back to dodge his attack and swiped at Yew's head once more when he lunged for her neck. Her strength wasn't in fighting, but she knew she couldn't let rouges come and take prey whenever they wanted. Then they'd only ever do it again... She could run back to camp to fetch help, but the tom would probably be long gone by then. No... she must stand her ground. When he insulted her ability to fight, she snarled and circled him slowly. She studied him for some sort of weakness as she circled. She had speed on her side, but speed always works best in numbers. "NightClan warriors are very skilled at fighting. And they trained me well, thank you very much," she boasted.

Yew grunted as her paw smacked into his head, though he was fortunate enough to take to blow on his forehead. It hurt a bit, but his eye was fine and that was much more importance. Aside from his slower speed, the tom's poor sight in his right meant that he tended to lead with his left side. "If that was true you would've run me off by now. You should've stayed in your camp today!" The tom swiped at her face, hoping to score a meaningful strike there before charging her again. He knew killing or seriously injuring a warrior would bring more vengeance from NightClan, but she had made him more than just a bit angry and there was no code for loners like. It was a struggle to keep his anger in check, and he hoped to gain a dominant position in their battle before things got any further out of hand.

His last swipe came so close to her face that she could feel her whiskers tingle. That was a little too close for comfort. She mustn't get too careless. "Don't you see? Not all fighting is won by brute force. The hunting patrol I was in most likely has noticed my absence by now. They'll be here soon, and all I have to do is hold you off until then," Roselight bluffed with a confident smile. There was a variety of ways he could react to this, the one she hoped for most was of him leaving, but somehow she didn't think he would take things that way.

Yew was silent for a moment, weighing his options as he attempted to ram into Roseflight. "That patrol won't do you any good if I finish you off before they can get here." As he spoke, Yew lowered his head to lead in with a headbutt before the rest of his body crashed into Roseflight. Well, if he could get there before she could move. At this point, he didn't see another choice but to fight. He couldn't get away from Roseflight with her superior speed, and if there really was a hunting patrol they'd either kill him or capture him. There was no way he could fight off an entire patrol, so the only option the loner saw was to run his opponent off and get his meal before any other NightClan cats arrived.

She was starting to be able to predict his movements. The fact that she was actually fighting an intruder was just dawning on her. It was all happening so fast, but the one thing that was clear in her mind was that she'd retain her pride and defend her catch to the best of her ability. Roselight jumped up as the tom came charging towards her. She landed on his back and dug her front claws into his haunches, while her back claws struggled to find a hold at his shoulders. "Like I would let that happen," she mocked from above. "In my opinion, your best option would be to run now, while you still have the chance!"

Yew hissed loudly as he realized his mistake, though he kept managed to keep his mouth shut when he felt her dig into his back. It would kill him if he allowed himself to show this warrior had badly that hurt. This wasn't his first battle though, and the tom quickly rolled onto his back. It wasn't a move guaranteed to free him from Roseflight's grasp, but if nothing else he could do a fair bit of damage just by crushing her beneath his weight. "Go home with an empty belly? When I could get a meal and put a stuck-up clan cat like you in her place? You really are a fool." The tom was certainly experienced, the scars that decorated his pelt made that obvious. This wasn't the first time he had to resort to stealing prey. "I'll give you some credit warrior, you're more resilient than I expected." Yew had always seen cats who lived in a clan as weak. While they relied on the clan as a whole for prey, protection, medicine and everything else loners like himself had no one. As soon as he had left his parents' side Yew had to look out for himself, and it was a matter of pride that he had never been reduced to letting others do what he could do without them.

(Sorry! XD I fell asleep. )
Roselight jumped from his back before she could get crushed, but one of her claws got stuck a moment too long, and when the tom rolled, it crushed her left foreleg. She held back a yowl as pain lanced up her leg. At the start of the fight she had seen the scars that had marred Yew's pelt as well as his massive build. She knew that she must dodge every blow if she really wanted to win this fight, because each blow was powerful. It felt like her foreleg might be twisted, putting her at a great disadvantage. If she let him complete his roll, he'd most likely be on her in seconds. She couldn't let that happen. She kicked out with her hind legs at his face, she could only hope he'd choose to get away rather than kick at her face as well. "Ha, I was about to say the same thing about you," she panted. She had battle training, and had dealt with predators before though never by herself, but never had she faced another cat in mortal combat. "You insult NightClan, but you end up with the same plan as we warriors strive to do every day. Does that mean you you're insulting yourself as well?" Despite the fact that he was her enemy, she secretly respected him for acknowledging her strength; not that she'd ever admit that.

(No worries l. I was going to go to sleep soon anyway.)
Yew was forced to grind his teeth and bear with Roselight's back claws scratching away at his face as he rolled over. He was only able to hold the position for a moment before he had to scurry out from beneath the she-cat. "I'm nothing like you. I don't need other cats around to protect me and take care of me, and that's why you'll never win." He did his best to keep up appearances. In reality the fight had taken its toll on him, which was obvious from the number of bloody open wounds that now adorned his pelt and face. Knowing that this battle couldn't last much longer, the yellow loner turned his focus again to the thrush. That was his real goal, not defeating Roselight. Yew darted away from her and towards the thrush with the last of his strength, hoping to break away so he could enjoy the hard-earned meal. Without a medicine cat to look after him, Yew couldn't afford to be injured any further and he hoped Roselight would feel the same and head back home.

( ) The tom was bleeding, but he seemed to stand strong. Could this rouge ever be defeated? Roselight was close to her limit, she wasn't built for fighting. She forced herself back to her paws, her sprained leg suspended above the ground. Her body was sore, and the wounds she had received stung. She saw his gaze flick to the thrush, and despite her exhaustion, she stepped in his way, though it was obvious that it wouldn't take much to get past her. Her expression was no longer cold and calculating, nor was it angry; her expression was sad. "Having comrades is what makes us strong. Not only to depend upon them in our weakness, but to stand strong in their weakness. I don't see how you could see that as a bad thing. Don't you have any family?"

Yew took note of the she-cat's injured leg and grinned, figuring she would take the first opportunity to break and run to the safety of the NightClan camp. Needless to say he was surprised to see her trying to stop him again. This time he paused in front of her, rather than attack again. "Strength shouldn't come from those around you, strength comes from within yourself. You and your clanmates are weak without each other because you've never learned to fend for yourselves." His voice was much more calm, though he visibly winced when Roselight mentioned family. "Not anymore." The loner spoke through gritted teeth, it was a rather uncomfortable subject for him. "Enough of this, get out of my way. A thrush is not worth your life." He growled, taking a step towards her as he did so.

(Hello Singe. ^^)
The multicoloured tabby paused a moment before speaking. "That is where you are wrong..." Roselight replied quietly, standing right where she was, her tail flicking slowly from side to side. "You can depend on your own strength, but that will never be enough in the end." Her deep emerald gaze lifted to meet his, and her expression was no longer compassionate, but hardened. "We are not weak! We are stronger because we are family, because we must stay strong for each other! Why can't you get that through your thick skull!" she yowled, her muscles rippling, as if she was preparing to fight. This was no longer a matter of who got the thrush anymore. This cat... This rouge came onto their territory, had the audacity to try and take their prey, and on top of it all, insulted the ways of the clan. She struggled to figure this insolent rouge out, and most of all, she wouldn't let him prove himself that clan cats were weak. "If you are as strong as you say you are, and you don't depend on any other cat's strength, why are you here, trying to get a bird on NightClan territory, that I clearly caught?!"

Yew let out a short laugh in response to her defense of the NightClan cats. In his mind a warrior would never have the strength of someone like himself who had never had another cat to turn to when things were bad. Life was always sink or swim for a loner, and he felt that was what made him stronger. He swatted at her head once more, claws unsheathed this time. With any luck he could simply knock her aside long enough to get away. Sure, there was no code for how loners and rogues had to live, but he was not a killer. At least not when he didn't need to be, and Roseflight had clearly had enough fighting for one day. Regardless of whether or not she was willing to stand aside "NightClan claims this territory as their own, you caught the bird. I understand these things." He glared at her as he spoke, wondering why she didn't see things the same way he did. "Yet here I am, living on this territory and moments away from taking the bird for myself. What difference does it make who claimed this forest first, or which one of us killed that thrush? If I can take what I want from you I will." To the loner this way of thinking made sense. He didn't rely on Roseflight for his meal, he relied on his own ability to take the bird away from her.

Roselight took a step back to avoid the blow, but it managed to catch her on the nose, and she stumbled to the side a few steps. Her nose throbbed, but she still stood in his way. "That is why I won't let you take it!" she hissed, angered at the fact that he didn't see her point. With a yowl, she advanced, snapping with her teeth towards him. All it would take was a well placed blow and she would be down. "If I let you take this, you'll only come back for more, won't you!? That is why I can't let you have it! I need to feed the clan, and it's hard enough without outsiders coming and taking food from us!"

"It must be hard to for you to accept that it doesn't matter what you think. I live here. This is my home, and I will be coming back tomorrow when I'm hungry. You fail to understand that you don't have to let me take this prey from you, I'm going to do it regardless of how you feel. What right do you have to stake claim to this forest and its prey if you can't defend it from a single outsider?" The she-cat's teeth caught hold of bit of Yew's shredded right ear that remained, tearing it cleanly. He didn't expect such ferocity from a warrior, and yet here Roselight was defending her clan and its territory well beyond reason. "If I were a meaner cat I would've finished you by now." The statement was followed by a headbutt. Maybe that would knock some sense into Roselight. "Like I said before, you're tough but there's no way you're going to stop me. You should've just run when you had four good legs."

Post by Light on Nov 9, 2017 20:34:41 GMT -5
Roselight fell to the ground after the head butt, and lay still for a moment before shifting and lifting her head to meet his gaze with a sharp glare. "Never. A warrior never turns tail from an enemy," she growled, trying to stand, but wincing and sinking back down. No, it wasn't worth it. Not at this point. There were several things she should've done different, but there was nothing she could do about it now except to be prepared for next time. "Fine, take the thrush. I don't understand you that well, but just know this; you should leave NightClan territory before you meet someone stronger than me, or an entire patrol. Unless you have official business with NightClan, you should go, or things won't go too well for you," she told him. She felt bad for him and the fact that he had no family, and partly knew what it was like to lose a family member. Her father had died when she had been a young apprentice, and ever since he died, her mother had been quite distant, almost as if she was lost to her and her brother as well.

Upon seeing that Roselight was finished trying to fight, Yew promptly plopped himself down next to the thrush. He took a minute or so to lick the wounds that he was able to reach before digging into the thrush. As for the issue of his family, it seemed that he had all but forgotten that they had been brought up only a short while before. "I appreciate the concern..." He trailed off, realizing that he didn't know her name. That would make sense, considering that their first interaction was him attacking her. "I don't doubt that I'll be seeing some of your clanmates very soon, especially after our little scuffle here. That should be interesting." Once he finished most of the thrush he swatted it with a paw, sending it in the fallen she-cat's direction. He then padded over towards Roselight, looking her over to more accurately gauge the extent of her injuries. "Are you going to make it back to that camp?" Yew asked, wondering how she intended to walk there with her left foreleg in the condition it was.

(Thank you for adding me Rabbit!)
Roselight watched the tom as he ate, her gaze once more unreadable. He was a strange one... He was strong, and wise with experience, but unlike some of the stories of rouges she had heard, he was somewhat caring. He reminded her of her father, who's love and devotion became the death of him. She wondered if this cat could ever love something to the point that he'd die to protect it. She snapped out of her thoughts as the mostly cleaned carcass rolled towards her, and she looked back at the tom as he spoke. She forced herself to her feet, lifting her left sprained forepaw so it didn't touch the ground. If the chill of leaf-bare was good for anything, it was good for at least numbing the pain of her wounds. "I will have to do it on my own, now won't I? There's nothing more to it," she replied, limping a few steps.
