One time my dad gave my expired milk by accident and I got so sick. I had the worst stomach pains I've ever experienced until I threw it all up

if stuff isn't opened then it's probably fine even if it's a few days after "expiration." those are dates by which it is still in top quality after which stores aren't allowed to sell it.
if it was like a week past expiration i might be concerned then

Exactly what Shadowstalker said: the "sell by" date doesn't mean it instantly goes bad at that point.
I usually go two days past on milk, myself; that's when I know it'll still be good.
