im sorry, i know i keep making threads about this and its probably bugging people but im kinda looking for reassurance and just need to rant
the short backstory is that i never got braces when i was younger and my parents got distracted with stuff and neglected my dental healthcare for like 5 years. as a result i have some problems with my teeth. nothing drastic like falling out or crazy crooked, but i do have some crowding on my lower incisors, and an adult canine growing in behind the baby one.
so i finally took it into my own hands in the spring and started setting up my own dentist appointments and such. basically, the dentist/orthodontist (he was certified both) told me that i couldn't do anything until i got my incoming wisdom teeth out and get a few fillings. so i did that. but with my latin intensive and moving to college i didnt have the chance to do anything else, so now i gotta find an orthodontist here.
my dentist did say two things: first, that i had a narrow dental arch that i could do nothing about and that i'd always have "saddle shaped" teeth, never a beautiful wide smile. second, that the adult canine would probably push the baby tooth out eventually.
but im having concerns about the latter, because my mouth is already too small for my tongue and the incoming canine is starting to leave a permanent dent in my tongue and im worried it'll only get worse as the tooth comes in (the baby tooth shows no sign of loosening). on top of this, i just started doing research and it turns out you CAN fix narrow arches using "removable appliances" (which are similar to retainers, but made to help reshape the structure of your mouth by widening the arches).
on top of all of this my front teeth have been chipped since i was like 11 and i really want them to be grind down but every time i asked the dentist it wouldn't be a good time for it
so yeah. i just really want a normal smile and i've been self-conscious about mine since i was little. now im in college and its gonna be so awkward because ill be basically the only person with them, and braces are so unattractive, and ugh.

That stinks :c
If you budget allows, you could get invisalign braces instead of the typical metal ones with brackets..
I totally get the thing about being self-conscious about your teeth though. Before I got braces, I used to have this canine that came in waaay higher than it was supposed to and that really jacked up my teeth (cross-bite, crowding, etc.) I hardly ever smiled in pictures (if I let myself be in any) But yeah, it was bad..
I hope you can get yours fixed up soon!

The orthodontist said that Invisalign wouldn't be possible because it's abilities are too limited to fix my teeth (especially the canine) and I need proper braces.
Now I'm scared because some impacted canines aren't moveable, and that chance increases the older you are.

Awe man, that bites. I'm sorry to hear that. When I was younger my bottom four front teeth had to be pulled out because a second row was growing in.
EDIT: Oops no pun intended. Was looking for a better word than sucks.

Oh boy,
I know my that when I went to get my braces, the orthodontist told me that if I had come in later, they probably would have to go through a lot more trouble to fix the impacted canine tooth I had at the time... Hopefully they'll be able to move yours! I'm pretty optimistic that they'll find a way c:
Also, it stinks that invisalign won't work! I've also heard of some braces with clear brackets (if that is any better) so that they're less noticeable and blend in more with your teeth

They attach on the back of your teeth instead of the front and apparently work faster than traditional braces anyways

I've never heard of those before, but they sound great! (well, as great as braces can get cx)
Might take a bit to get used to at first tho, just like anything new ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

idk. i keep hearing contradicting reviews on them. one source says they're more painful than traditional braces and another will say they're a lot less painful. who to trust???
i found a highly rated place nearby that offers free consultations, so that's nice

I would think they'd cause about the same amount of pain, but idk, all braces are bound to hurt for the first couple days cx
Also, what luck! Consultations are always good to have c:

Well in my experience with braces they moved my teeth fast and now I have short roots on all my front teeth which basically means if I got a good knock to the mouth my teeth would fall out which is super cool. I can also wiggle them a tiny bit and I'm like. God I'm so glad braces ruined my teeth forever (: . So if those braces that sit behind your teeth work faster then having short roots could be an issue. If you're worried abt having braces because you're old then get them now because you're not getting any younger unfortunately. If it makes you feel any better I had braces throughout high school and into when I started college. Most people I don't think really notice. Honestly the braces are better than the retainers because retainers tend to make you talk funny which you're more likely to get teased for trust me. Um either way you go braces suck and they hurt so. You're not getting off the hook for anything. And honestly I wouldn't recommend anything that's basically retainers because while braces sick retainers are not better. When I finally got out of braces and got my retainers they gave me the worst canker sores I've ever had lol. It was awful and I couldn't not wear my retainers for fear of losing my progress with the braces. But my retainers effed my teeth back up anyway so there's that. Idk. Braces suck but get then if you want
