I feel like everyone cares about others' characters a bit too much nowadays.
Creating OCs is supposed to be fun and that's it. It's okay to give newbies tips but really just don't force it on them or make them ashamed or make fun of them. It's really crushing for a young kid to experience something like that.
Also this is my personal opinion, but I don't think sonas should be critsized, since it's supposed to be something that the creator relates to and feels as such. I might just be weird tho.

agreed my opinion on it is p much that "mary sues" tend to be self-inserts created by young people. and it's ok to create a self-insert character. it's fun! but just keep in mind when you're critiquing this kind of character you're critiquing the harmless fun of mostly younger writers and your "critiques" (tbh i've never seen a "critique" of a mary sue that doesn't start to morph into bullying and making fun of the author) may put them off creating characters and sharing their writing

OOC I've found that people learn on their own, like even if they make a cringe-y self insert Mary Sue character now, it's very, very likely that in a year or so, or even a few months, that they'll look back and try to make a better character and so on and so forth. But when someone jumps in and criticizes it, it very well may stunt them in character creation, or stop it entirely.

Let people have the characters they want. It's all in good fun anyway.
