[Just a sleepy writing test. Not anything special, and it's probably littered with typos. Don't even get me started on the pacing and grammar.
But, it definitely made me a whole lot more relaxed writing this out, so maybe it will do the same thing for you, as well? I dunno.
Anyway, good night to you (or day. Whatever it is for you) and have an easy, (also most likely clumsy) short read.]
The dim glow of amber firelight flickered within the cave. In turn, shadows danced along the walls like sentient beings. The occasional droplet fell from the rocky ceiling, emitting a soft plop when it came contact with the stone flooring. However, more often than not, the crackles and pops of the torches that hung from the walls drowned out the simple sound.
In the center of the cavern was a pile of gold and treasures. The amber light reflected off of the shiny minerals, making them glint and glimmer brightly. Atop this pile was a beast greatly feared. Its ivory talons, as long and as sharp as a knight's dagger, were curled protectively around a clump of coins and gems of reds, purples, and greens. Its firm jaw was rested on another clump, its lips occasionally flickering back to reveal yellow-white teeth as fatal as a knight's best blade. The light and shadows seemingly danced as one upon its crimson scales, and its wings were tightly folded against its slender yet powerful body. Its long and whip-thin tail was finally curled around itself, the arrow-pointed tip resting comfortably on the top of its snout.
A snort and a snore rumbled deep within its throat, vibrating through its powerful lungs and into the cave. The low sound bounced off of every corner, until it bounced right back to the dragon's chest. Dark gray smoke curled in delicate tendrils from its nostrils as its breathing once again became even.
Despite being a beast of nightmares and horrific legends, it looked rather peaceful. It was no more a monster than any other creature in this state. When it stirred from its slumber, it would once again be the fire breathing terror of the lands, surely. But, it slept gently and calmly at this point in time. Like a dying flame just barely breathing its last sparks, waiting for the proper materials to bring it back to its true form.
A heavy breath exhaled through its nostrils, bellowing out a cloud of smoke. Rumbling softly, the crimson dragon curled up even tighter. The treasures that it rested upon shifted with its body, making soft clashing sounds that would have been loud enough to stir anything but a dragon. The beast slept on, resting his head on his forefoot. The crackle of the torches grew quieter and the amber glow became dimmer.
The shadows began to grow as the light began to shrink. The pops of the flames became quieter and quieter, leaving only the soft breathing and occasional snores of the beast to fill the silence of the cave. However, even in all this darkness, the treasure still glowed like pieces of sunlight. They kept the dozing dragon company, even if it didn't know that it needed it.
