mkmk so I had my first german class today and wow this prof doesn't mess around. We got like, a dozen english words out of him the whole time ahhhhh also I kept wanting to speak french since I've been taking that for 5+ years now and that's just my default oops.
but I know most of you are multi-lingual peeps so any tips on how to learn languages and retain the knowledge better? And how to isolate my german from my french so I stop frenching my german pronunciations? Or is it just lots of practice/immersion/time because I felt so lost, less so in reading/writing and even listening, but in speaking I was a total mess. Which was also because I decided to choose the cutest chick for a convo buddy and kept getting nervous oops

there really isn't a magic formula unfortunately haha. but immersion is very helpful.
for speaking specifically, there's some programs that allow you to talk to native speakers, and you could try that.

Practice and immerse yourself. Take a bit of time everyday to practice - try reading articles, listening to music, and watching shows / movies (with subs) all in that language. Mixing up pronunciations with two languages can be tricky - I still do that with Spanish and English admittedly. It's just a practice thing but there'll probably still be slip ups every now and then.
