I don't have a cat, but I have a dog who acts like one 95% of the time
Her "toy" of choice is empty yogurt containers. She'll stick her nose in them and push them around like she thinks she's a bulldozer. Or else just bat them around with her paws.

My cats like playing with my birds molted feathers, although it's always supervised and we wash them just in case.
Also @ anyone saying their cat plays with hair ties, please lock the hair ties up somewhere that you know the cat can't get them. If they are swallowed (and they eventually will be) it can get stuck or twisted up in their digestive tract and kill them. And even if you do manage to save them, surgery is a few thousand dollars, which most people aren't willing to pay. Just not worth the risk to their health.

Trash-wise they love to play with the plastic piece you pull off of a milk jug to open it. Favorite toys are pipe cleaners I twist into a hoop and attach a bell to. Ravenpaw has also recently been taking one of those stress balls you squeeze to test how strong your hand muscles are (it's nearly as big as he is) and putting it in the water dish.

The only thing my first cat, Chester, will ever play with is catnip. And you don't want to be near him when he finds his catnip. Things can get crazy... As for my second cat, Bobbi, her #1 favorite toy is live lizards. And when she's done playing with them she'll eat them. Then vomit them back up. o_o Poor little reptiles. Whenever I see that she's playing with one, I try to take it from her and put it back outside. But, I can't always get there in time. That's why I have to make extra sure she doesn't get at my turtle.

One of my cats likes to take the strainer from the bathtub, eat the hair in it and then put it somewhere like the bed or in the living room. Kind of like a toy for him. They also like to take hair ties that I place on my dresser and run away with them.

I forgot to mention Squirrelflight's favorite toy is about a foot long section of weed eater line - it's string she can't eat!

My cat Nala is too lazy to play with any toys, but when she does, it tends to be plastic bags that are lying round the floor that she'll play with. Or the carpet, or anything hanging off the tables.
Also, a family friend's cat steals clothes from round the street.
