After working at my other job today I finally do have some free time but I ended up at my friend's house so all I have is mobile. Sorry for not really being able to respond. I managed to score another shift tomorrow so I'm pretty excited to work again.]

Smokestorm kept his eyes in front of him as she stretched out next to him. It felt wonderful to be able to relax. He felt his tense muscles slowly loosen up and he let out a gentle sigh of content. He turned his gaze to her, looking at her from the corner of his eye as she spoke. He gave a small nod, it was almost as if he didn't nod at all. He spoke, his voice was usually quick and sharp and now it was calm and smooth "it is nice, I bet plenty of prey will be scurrying out in no time." he gave a small smile at the idea of feeding the clan "we'll be greeted with all kinds of warmth." As he said this he thought about the tense atmosphere back at camp. He was glad he had some company, it felt weird being with a cat that wasn't Cloudfrost or Ashcloud. The two were always so annoying to him but even he couldn't deny that he would do anything to protect them. He would always protect the clan. Peachflower hadn't failed to notice the change in Smokestorm's attitude. Who knew he could be so relaxed? "Both in the belly and on the fur." She let out a little chuckle at her lame comment about warmth. She rolled onto her back and stretched her long limbs in the air. "What are you most excited for?" She gazed at him curiously. Now that they were actually talking, she was surprised by how much she wanted to get to know the other cat. Maybe she was in a socializing mood and hadn't realized it earlier. |

As she questioned him he thought about it, the thing he was most excited for was a new deputy. Cinderspark had gone against the code and in Smokestorm's opinion, despite his respect for the tom, losing the rank of deputy was the best course of action. He breathed in the scents around him, sure he could recognize her scent now. "I'm excited to see who Silverstar will choose as the next deputy, I'm sure she's hurting but she needs to keep a clear head." |

The small silver tabby buried herself deeper into the space between Echomist’s warm belly and Lethe, praying to the stars above that what the clan-cats were saying was untrue. Why did they want to change her name? Not even just her’s but Lethe’s and Fate’s too! Sleep pulled at her eyes but she wouldn't permit it as she poked her head up to looked to her siblings. Their sides rose and fell softly as their lungs filled with sleep, their faces holding peace for the first time in awhile. Ebbe couldn’t help but imagine what lives they were living in their sweet slumber. Were they dreaming of the sweet aroma of green-leaf their mother sang so fondly of? Maybe perhaps they were having a night full of chasing hares like father talked about, lush hills rolling with green grasses and splotches of wildflowers, their pungent fragrance clinging to their fur and lingering for the briefest moment as they pushed sleep from their eyes. Or maybe, just maybe they they curled into the warmth of them in the den, enveloped with nothing but reassurance that everything was alright. She could only lay there and pray to the stars above that their nights were full of sweetly fabricated tales, better than the ones they were living now. She missed her family, with the entirety of her broken heart.
Her heart sank. Twice her heart had grown weary and she had only just awoken. Would this be how the rest of her days carried on? Strange cats spinning her strange tales of her mother, questioning why she so dearly wanted to hold onto the little bits of her that she had left, and a sinking heart? Be wondered how long one could keep a sinking heart in the confines of a cat’s chest before it disappeared. Would it ever disappear? She couldn't help but find herself questioning their motives. Why did the clan-cats want to strip everything they called familiar away from them? Would her refusal to take up a clan name, like her mother’s as they said, really be that disastrous? How could it!
“Your mother loved the name given to her by the clan.” Her heart clenched at the she-cat’s words. Augustpetal. If she were here now would her eyes reflect the same amount of confusion and disappointment as the two gray cats that stood before her?
“I love the name my mother gave me…” she said softly. Her head hung between her shoulders in heavy defeat and exhaustion, not even daring to pick it up to meet the cat’s eyes. She knew all too well that they would only think little of her because - well, she was little.
Ebbe couldn’t help but press into Echomist’s muzzle as she brought it to her side, thankful for the comfort that the queen offered to her and her siblings. Allowing her body to lower she curled back up into Echomist’s belly, burying her head into her siblings fur and finally allowing sleep to weigh her eyes down. She prayed she dreamed of Augustpetal and Silas, or somewhere far from here.
