I have no idea what I want to do with my life. It seems like everyone I know has some kind of career goal set up, but I've never aspired to be anything. My family is pushing me to go to college, but I feel like it would just be a waste of money since there's nothing that interests me. Everything I like is more of a hobby than a job, and will never get me anywhere. :/
Does anyone else feel this way.

yeah exactly
i completely lack motivation and it's not like i can just go fetch some motivation at the store or something...... i also didn't really develop hobbies outside of gaming due to dealing with severe depression since i was a kid lmao
i don’t know how to explain this, but i feel like i lack a personality. it feels as if i have different personalities that i “put on” for different groups of people and different occasions, but none of me feels concrete. identity disturbance? idk, but it also seems to affect my motivation/outlook of the future.

tbh I have no clue what I want to do either I'm going to college but as for a specific career or whatever I'm aiming at, I don't have one :/ luckily this is just community college for me this year so maybe I'll figure it out before my 4 years of uni

this is me if i can't think of anything, i guess i'd go with photography.. people call me good at it all the time but i don't enjoy it much. i don't want to do something if i don't like it, but i guess most people hate working, doesn't mean they don't do it :/

plenty of people don't figure out what to major in until a few years into college.
a friendly reminder that you can always get an associate's degree (two years) first, especially at like a community college. that will give you time to figure it out, possibly explore more options, and makes it much easier to return to school at a later date if you so wished to get a bachelor's or even a master's degree.
it's hard to go wrong with versatile majors such as business, finance, or communications. you can do a LOT with them in a wide variety of fields.
i feel like there's a stigma that if you go to uni, you must get one of the "well-pursued" degrees like engineering, or medical, or english. but you don't. almost every hobby has some sort of corresponding major that can help you spin it into a career. the most important advice my brother has ever granted me is this: don't go to college to get a job. go to college to learn.
Some questions to think about that might help navigate the fog of uncertainty:
1 - Do you have interest in learning a language? (Consider a foreign language degree) 2 - What about the well-being of animals? (Veterinary offshoots, such as vet technician or handlers) 3 - Do you enjoy writing, whether creatively or factually? (Communications; the world always needs good writers) 4 - Maybe you're good at management and leadership qualities. (Business degrees cater to such skills) 5 - The workings of the human mind fascinate you? (Psychology, anthology) 6 - Love building and creating worlds, or constructing on games like Sims or Minecraft? (Have you thought of architecture?) 7 - A passion for communicating importance and getting facts straight? (That's journalism!) 8 - Fascinated by the cause and effect of our past? (History departmental degrees) 9 - Do you love immersing yourself in classical worlds of the Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians? (Classics degree!) 10 - Intrigued by the delicate workings of our market and how, exactly, money and value rotate this delicate world? (Economics is all about that) 11 - Curious as to the minds, motivations, and complexities of civil society? (Government is the degree for you!) 12 - Similarly, perhaps you wish to learn more of the delicate games of our gov. (Consider politics or political science) 13 - How did X culture come to be? Maybe it's always fascinated you. (There are whole majors just for individual cultures!) 14 - Why do languages operate the way they do? How are they crafted and manipulated by others? (Linguistics, or perhaps English) 15 - So why are things the way they are? (Literally the description of philosophy) 16 - Maybe you love overlooked skills like hair styling and make-up. (Cosmetology school!)
Just some suggestions for somewhat overlooked majors. Or those that most don't like at first glance.
It's important to remember that degrees tend to be stereotyped as one thing or another, and once you have that set in your mind, it's easy to be driven off. Take the time to do a research on them all. Know exactly what you're choosing to decline before you decide "not for me". Often times, the stereotypes can be misleading. A lot of these majors have a lot of practical skills as well as theoretically intellectual ones. For instance, economics gives you a sound understand of finances, how to play the market, and run your own budgets and investments better. History degrees don't just limit you to become a history professor somewhere-- be an archivist, editorial assistant, conservation officer.
I'd reccomend using www.prospects.ac.uk/careers-advice/what-can-i-do-with-my-degree It will tell you all sorts of employment that comes directly from or can be influenced by a certain degree
Note that college isn't necessary for success. But if you're leaning that way, it might help.

me
i would love a music career (dream career is touring alternative band member) bc band is my favorite class at school and i love p much everything being an artist would involve (touring, merch, recording music, etc). the only problem is that i've played flute in school band the past 7 years, and i want to be a drummer but i only just ordered a drum set last week. i'm going to practice and try to improve but realistically i'd doubt i'd get into Berklee music school with drums bc I don't have enough experience or skill. which would mean i would audition on flute and be stuck with that as my principal instrument for 4 yrs, without getting much time to practice drums for my band. :") rip
but my second favorite subject (and the subject i'm best at) is French. i've been at the top of my French classes so far, it's really enjoyable for me, and i'd love to become fluent and maybe even study Linguistics.
i just don't really have plans for college or anything. i'm taking as many honors/AP classes / exams as possible and have a 3.96 unweighted gpa so i'm keeping my options open for colleges

Don't worry too much, it takes time!
I've had one set life-plan for myself since I was probably 13 years old. (To become a pharmacist). Then this winter, it all got turned on its head when I started hating the classes I had to take to get into said program/realized I had no passion for it. I was pretty much just wanting to be in it for the money.
I honestly started with just a general search of "jobs you can get with a biology degree", and also asked some good friends in the community and family members about their jobs, and tried to find one that lined up with things I was passionate about (science, languages, helping others, one-on-one teaching, helping people with different abilities and learning styles overcome obstacles). Ngl I had nervous breakdowns over this uncertainty of my future for probably 2 months straight. But it all works itself out eventually! I'm currently looking at becoming a Speech Language Pathologist in the school system, and I couldn't be happier about my decision ^.^

anyways OP i'm honestly considering entering a trade at this point. college tuition is just absolutely ridiculous and i don't want to waste my parents' money just bc i'm indecisive and lukewarm. i'm becoming increasingly convinced that college is a joke anyways, at least in america.

I want to major in veterinary science and theatre, and minor in space science (if that's a thing) probably called astronomy, lmao. I wanted to attend a performing arts school as well, but of course my parents shot me down on that one with that old "you're gonna be poor and have to wait tables" speech. But really, if I enjoy what I do, isn't that enough? Maybe once I graduate from university I can try to save up enough money to pay for it myself, but that'll take a long time.

I don't really know, I would like to be a veterinarian but I'm squeamish and cannot even watch a video of someone preforming a small surgery on an otter :/
I would really love to become a voice actor but I don't think that'll happen.
