i just went to a concert for the first time last night and had... such a good time oh my god... i never thought id like going to a concert bc of social awkwardness haha but i really didnt feel self conscious at all jumping and singing along it was so great.
it was just a show in this small venue with like 6 local bands covering early 2000s emo songs. we got there like 10 mins before doors opened and it was sold out but we just went around back and there was a band standing there and they were like hey you guys looking for a way to sneak in and we were like yeah lol and he was like here take these cards and just go in and we just walked in omg. highlights of the night include some crust punk saying they recognized me as "new wave kid" since i wear joy division and smiths shirts all the time, said crust punk trying to start a mosh pit during EVERY song, the riot grrrl band doing avril lavigne covers and surprisingly having the second roughest crowd of the night... second only to the my chemical romance set. oh my god. the my chemical romance set. mcr was like... My Life from 6th-8th grade, like, im one of those "mcr saved my life" people for real and this was probably as close to an mcr show ill ever get HAHA so i made the most of it. i ended up in the pit which was surprisingly not as terrifying/painful as i expected and was actually just a lot of fun, half of the crowd fell over during welcome to the black parade, and i almost cried like 4 times. they did im not okay, helena, famous last words, and wttbp. theres something really inspiring about a bunch of former emos screaming along to "i am not afraid to keep on living / i am not afraid to walk this world alone" hahaha... i also saw two kids in my marching band there??? one of them was in the pit with me during the mcr set and we just had a moment of locking eyes and a pact was made right then DSFHSJ i really understand what people mean when they talk about like having a bond with all the people in the concert singing along. idk.
anyways i just had a great time and wanted to talk about it somewhere that i wont feel stupid for being so excited about a stupid 2000s emo cover show. (its hard to feel stupid about anything when its being said on a forum for childrens talking animal novels.) feel free to share concert experiences here or something ig!
