I am not a member on Steam, but I know some of you are. My question is, if you are a member, can you see how popular a game is? As in, can you tell how often a game has been bought, to gauge the popularity of it?
I need to know for petty, selfish reasons.

I don't think so. People can leave ratings though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know you can check reviews and ratings, but I think that's the closest to "popularity gauges" you can access
(I don't have Steam, but all of my exes have had it and I was nosy xD)

Unless the devs themselves disclose the info, I don't think there's a way to check how many Steam sales a game has. (I could be wrong about this, Idk? As far as I can tell, though, I can't see anything for sales.)
That said, there are User Reviews for each game, so that should give a pretty good idea on how good a game is. You don't need to be a member to see them, though.

Thanks for the info guys. My brother created a game that went live on Steam on 8/11, and he has put all his eggs in that basket, refusing to actually go out and get a job and support his child, instead just waiting for it to take off so he can make tons of money and leave his wife. My mom keeps me updated, but I don't fully trust that he would be 100% honest with her about how it's REALLY doing (he's had other failed get rich quick schemes before), so I didn't know if there was a way I could snoop on my own or not.
