I present to you the best instrument ever... BOOMWHACKERS. These are featured in one of my favorite songs, Gnothi Safton by Jim Papoulis. I sang the song 2 years ago at my summer program when he was guest composer. When he was asked to write a piece for the Young People's Chorus of NYC for choir and boomwhackers, he did not know what they were. So he did what anyone would in the 21st century and googled it. He thought it was the name of a band or something. Confused, he sent a note to one of the YPC conductors (who I've also worked with) and asked, "so...what are boomwhackers? Cause all I see are these plastic toys" and she just replies, "yea that's what they are". No joke. I got to see it performed live by YPC at their concert in June and it was absolutely amazing <3 Here's YPC's premiere from a few years ago

I have to always play with a mute or with cotton in my ears bc the high notes and of how loud I have to play. I much prefer piano

Also the hammer dulcimer. A few years ago my choir did a song accompanied by one and when our original player had to cancel a week before, our director somehow got in touch with this incredible national champion (the one in the video) who came from out of state and it was amazing. I've been obsessed ever since.
This is the solo piece he played after we sang
