Doeflower looked down at her three kits. "This one will be Firekit," she meowed, nuzzling the ginger she-cat. "This one is Windkit," she murmured, gently licking the silver and white she-cat. Then she looked at the tiny tom that was left to be named. "And he will be Waterkit," she decided.

((Just ordered Bluestar's Prophecy - it's the least expensive I could find in hardcover, and would've been my third choice since you don't really learn a ton about her in the first series x3 Though I also wanna buy the second series soon, too. I'm trying to get all the books. But there are so many QwQ
Oh, and if people from the patrol wanna RP, they can run into Pumpkin and ignore Hawke and Adder for now (since Koi has work soon) . Or just keep doing what they're doing x3))
Shadowpaw was on his feet in an instant, fur bristling with excitement. Tingles ran down his spine as he though of going out and actually hunting for the first time. "Imagine catching a baby alligator!" The tom's tail lashed with excitement. "I've heard that their teeth are so sharp, they can take off your tail in one bite!" Though the statement would be frightening to most, it only made the young tom more excited.
He found himself purring happily at his new friend as he began padding out of the camp, only pausing to take a glance Rufflepaw. "Uhhhh..." His ears flicked back as he realized he had no idea what he was doing - since he had been brought into the clan, he hadn't gone outside the camp. But he wouldn't be caught dead admitting that. So he quickly thought of another thing to say. "What do alligators look like? I don't think I've ever seen one."
It was true - since he had been in camp, he had not seen one on the fresh kill pile. So either they were too dangerous to catch often, or... "Are they so tasty that they get taken off the kill pile first?"
((Methinks they will :3))

(I think the patrol would be fun!)
Oliveleaf sat in the camp clearing, still yawning and trying to blink the sleep from eyes. The she-cat watch itching to leave camp and stretch her legs, hoping that the brisk air would wake her up.
“One time Oliveleaf let me try a bite from one she was sharing with some other warriors” Rufflepaw stated as he padded alongside his denmate. “It was kind of tough and hard to chew but it tasted good! There’s nothing else that really tastes like it the tom thought for a moment. “I don’t think they’re that uncommon, I guess cats are just wary of the adult alligators which are often nearby” the tom said in an unphased tone. "Do you know much about hunting?" the tom purred as quickly changed the subject.
(Sorry for the short post for Oliveleaf)

((That's so cool, Rabbitfrost!! I prefer actual books to PDFs, but I may need to do that to catch up on the series ^^' How many are there, five? Six? I've only read up to the third book in "The Power of Three" ^^'
And I probably will, laputani. I love reading Warriors books, though college students probably aren't a part of their target audience x3))
The dark tom's lip curled at the thought of chewing through tough meat - it didn't sound to appealing to him. But not knowing what alligator tasted like was killing him. Determination burned in his yellow orbs as he became resolved to catch one when Rufflepaw and him went hunting. The large apprentice knew he would be lucky to catch anything, let alone an alligator hatchling, but that wouldn't stop him from trying. He had decided never to give up on becoming the best warrior, and that meant being able to hunt.
The first steps they took out of the camp, Shadowpaw's eyes darted back and forth energetically, as though their prey would be right there. At Rufflepaw's question, his ears flicked and he spoke a little too loudly. "Of course I know about hunting!"
The tom instantly realized that, though he knew about hunting, he didn't know the first thing about how to hunt. And since he had already admitted to Rufflepaw that he needed help, there was no harm in telling him how little he knew. Hus ears flicked once more and his head fell slightly. "Though I don't actually know much about how to."

(If it makes you feel any better I'm a college student too so I feel your pain! The stress of deadlines and the fact that they are so cheap to buy on kindle made me start reading them again as a sort of nostalgic escapism pfft)
"Thanks okay!" the small tom mewed cheerfully as he eagerly scanned the area. "My two-leg practiced hunting with me all the time!" his tail twitched excitedly as he remembered all of the 'prey' his two-leg has given him to play with. "I'm not supposed to talk about being a kittypet though" he quickly looked down at his paws suddenly feeling self-conscious. "Lilybreeze is great too! She has taught me how to hunt for real" Rufflepaw sniffed at the ground, suddenly realising they were close to a shallow swamp which would be a perfect place to start hunting. "I'll show you everything she showed me!" he purred as he flicked his tail towards the shallow, muddy water.
Oliveleaf spun around to see Frogleap. "I'd love to go on patrol! I really need to stretch my legs" she shook out her fur. "I feel like an elder already" the young warrior's whiskers twitched as she padded over to the other two cats.

(I'm a college student too, and I also prefer the actual books to reading on my phone. But the free PDFs, and the fact that the series is a guilty pleasure of mine, reading it on my phone just makes more sense.)

((Hahaha, I haven't even gotten it yet xD It's gonna be mailed soon, though. Should get it just in time to procrastinate on homework with And exactly - they're nostalgic! And really well-written and easier to read, so you can actually relax when reading them. Oh wow, so many college students here xD)) Shadowpaw's ears perked up and he let out a happy chirp as the older apprentice told him it was okay. It was nice to not be judged for his inexperience. After all, he had no parents to teach him how to hunt, or if he did, he couldn't remember them. And all the others had always seem to busy for a pesky lost kit like him. After all, he wasn't born as one of them. And neither was Rufflepaw. So when his friend looked down when talking about his two-leg, he couldn't just leave it be. With a flick of his tail, he gently shouldered Rufflepaw in an attempt to pick his mood up. "That's just silly - you can talk about whatever you want!" As he spoke, the large tom's pelt bristled indignantly. "After all, you're my clanmate. Anyone else who says otherwise can go eat dirt." His words were said matter-of-factly, as though nothing anyone said would be able to change his mind. And they couldn't. Once he made up his mind about something, next to nothing could change it. Though they could distract him from it, just as Rufflepaw did when he said he'd show the younger apprentice what Lilybreeze taught him. Shadowpaw excitedly bounded towards the shallow swamp his friend had pointed out, pausing only to remember one thing he had overheard from one of his older clanmate's conversations long ago - loud noises would scare off prey. So he did something he rarely ever did, and probably wouldn't do every again. He froze, waiting for Rufflepaw to take the lead and show him what needed to be done.

The she-cat yawned one final time before fluffing her fur out. “Ready when you are!” Oliveleaf chirped. As she walked her stomach growled and she wondered if they’d have time to hunt afterwards. The tip of her tail twitched and she stifled one final yawn as she waited for a signal from the other cats.
(Yeah same! the good thing about having it on the kindle is you can read a Warriors book out and about and no one will question it because people won't even be able to see what you're reading)

For a few moments Rufflepaw started in silence for a moment over Shadowpaw’s words. Suddenly he snorted before breaking into laughter, he wasn’t laughing at Shadowpaw’s words, he was laughing with relief. “Thank you” The tom smiled as he looked out across the swamp, feeling relaxed in his friend’s presence. He slowly slipped into the swamp until the mud brushed his underbelly before turning back to Shadowpaw and beckoning him forward with a flick of his tail.

(Hey all. Haha, there seem to be a bunch of college students here. To be honest, I was debating rereading the series too and as a college student myself... I probably would have to use a tablet or something as well! We are all in the same boat it seems.)
Hawke sighed and shook his head, his whiskers twitching slightly in irritation. Why would he ask to see the camp as bluntly as he did, the large tom clearly wouldn't show a 'rogue'. He had at least some brains... "I see your point, I suppose. It was mostly to have an idea if perchance I did decide to join at a later date." The lithe tom muttered, admittedly stuck between a rock and a hard place in terms of what to do. Though meeting with the leader did interest him slightly if he stick around to do it... He could bail before they reached him, or 'agree' to a pact only to leech their resources for his own benefit. "I have to admit though. I am curious about this 'meeting your sister' idea..."

"I could eat an alligator right now” Oliveleaf bounded forward a couple of steps to fall inline with the others. “I mean a hatchling of course” she quickly stated and shook her head as if to change the subject from food “we’re on a patrol anyway”. After Frogtail had mentioned it she couldn't help but think about the prospect of running into a Rogue and it made the fur at the base of her neck stand on end. The thought of having to fight made her feel slightly nervous, in her entire life she had never felt any sense of thrill or excitement from battles.

Shadowpaw's eyes widened as Rufflepaw began to laugh. Why was he laughing? Did the younger apprentice say something wrong? Was he being laughed at?
At this thought, claws began to sink into the soft dirt under the large tom's paws - he would not tolerate being laughed at, if that were the case! So as soon as the older apprentice thanked him, the sleek-haired cat relaxed and felt slightly foolish. Of course his friend wouldn't laugh at him.
The young apprentice let out a laugh himself before following Rufflepaw, shuddering as he first stepped into the water. He hated getting wet in the small puddles around camp. The smell of the dampness on his coat, the feeling of hair clinging to his bosy, and even the taste of water when he was grooming it off of himself. But he still followed his friend.
After all, if hunting took getting a little wet and muddy, then it didn't bother him. Or at least, that's what he kept telling himself as he waded over to his denmate.
"Being in water feels funny." He quietly mused, his tail held high out of the water's reach. A strange feeling had settled into his belly, like they themselves were being stalked. Though it was probably just his imagination. After all, he had listened plenty of stories about the dangers of the swamp during the sharing of tongues at their camp. He was probably just imagining snakes swimming through the water towards them, or alligators lurking behing every tree.
Though he wasn't imagining the eyes from above looking down at them, the furry ring-tailed creature they belonged to watching the two smaller cats wandering through the swamp below.
((Racoons usually ignore cats, but thought it might be interesting to put it into my post xP))

"Doesn't it always smell like mud?" Scorchmark mewed as he walks with the patrol. He glanced around expecting to see something come out from the water or from the bushes.

"You can never be to careful." Scorchmark mewed flicking his tail back and forth. He relaxed a bit though since he seemed to appear tensed up.

(Ok I just finished Crookedstar’s Promise and I’m broken. Time to draw fanart to fill the void pfft I haven't drawn warriors fanart in about six years but whatever I'm on a nostalgia run)
“I think it feels relaxing” Rufflepaw said, almost closing his eyes. The tom had very short down fur and for some reason enjoyed the feel of the mud on his skin. He looked down into the mud, watching for any air bubbles or signs of movement. When he saw a bubble break the surface is eagerly glanced at Shadowpaw but quickly realised that he was distracted. Rufflepaw followed his gaze until he noticed the raccoon gazing down at them. “I..Uhh…” the small tom took a step back, desperately trying to remember what older warriors had said about raccoons.
Oliveleaf walked alongside her clanmates in silence. She was just glad to be out of camp, feeling the breeze run through her fur. Oliveleaf sniffed the ground, smelling nothing but Briarclan mixed in with the familiar scent of the swamp. Everything seemed completely normal to her.
