OOC My cat let a giant, very much alive mouse into the house and it's either in the basement (rip me, my room is a mess ;-, the kitchen, or the family room.
I'm terrified and close to panicking, and we are trying to get it out but we can't find it so I set one of our cats loose in the house. But pls, I need advice on how to get it out, like, now.

depending on how immediately you want to get it out you might be able to go to the store and get a humane mouse trap (I found a few that say they're sold at Walmart which, okay, not my favorite store but pretty convenient if there's one nearby)
beyond that I'm not really sure; we "dealt with" our mouse problem by not removing the snakes from the basement...

OOC I want it gone immediately. I don't think you understand, I live in the basement, I'm terrified of mice, and this one is huge and is most likely in the basement and right now I'm just hoping one of the cats gets it.

get glue traps and set them up around the house my dog sometimes kills rats and brings them inside (they're outdoor rats; we live in a super rural area so there's always gonna be rodents whatever we do //shrug) but it's easy to take them from him. we usually distract him with a treat and take the rat away in a plastic bag. sometimes they're still alive. in that case, you gotta trap it instead. don't grab a live rat or mouse

far as i know there's no immediate way to kill it if you don't have any traps unless one of your cats decides to kill it or you kill it yourself

the Internet says the smell of peppermint will drive mice away
you could try to get the mouse to enter a container even if you can't get out to buy a real trap if you get a big container you could catch it
