So my dogs (two Maltese) went to the vet yesterday to get their shots. I told my mom to make sure they titer them to make sure they don't get unnecessary shots.
So get this, the vet says that they don't titer pets. So they just shot my dogs full of chemicals at the dosage a Great Dane requires. Because that's the dosage all the vaccines are!
My dogs are 7 and 14 pounds. They're not 200 lbs!! Why aren't there shots that have appropriate dosages for smaller dogs?!
So yesterday was spent in the pet emergency room because one of the dogs had a serious reaction (his lips/tongue were swelling)! The other dog had a reaction too just not as severe, lots of vomiting though. Both dogs had reactions their first round of shots too.
And the law says that we're forced to vaccinate our dogs regardless of the dosage size and our dogs' reactions to the vaccines. Well the law is wrong!

I mean... no. The law isn't wrong. Public safety is deffently never wrong. And I don't see why you're saying an entire name for professionals are stupid after your event with one..
Though I hope the dogs come out okay. Also, did they tell you the dosage they were using? I don't think any vet has to explain that. It's really weird that they would mention that.

what vaccines did they get? also it appears that all vaccines are the same because pharmaceutical companies make sure they work for all dogs. there is no studies on if administering a lower dosage would work it appears. also there was a study that smaller dogs are more likely to have a reaction, but also there was a higher amount of reactions in spayed/neutered pets as well as pets from the ages of 1-3. now what shouldn't have happened was them getting multiple shots at the same time. they should've been spaced out because your dogs are smaller and they need time to process the vaccines.

Vets aren't stupid. It's the law. They HAVE to give them those vaccines or they will be put down. The allergic reaction is typical depending on the injection. Inflammation isn't unusual

Reactions are honestly not that common, it happens but in the hundreds of dogs I have seen vaccinated I personally have never had a dog react, but it happens. I actually looked up a study and it says out of 10,000 dogs vaccinated, 38 had reactions. Thats not many. A lot of clinics dont titer test because they are required to give it when its due, so why even offer a service that is kind of useless besides knowledge to the owner?

Okay walking away from it for a couple hours I've calmed down. Yes my dogs are okay. They're just pumped full of Benadryl .

OOC I'm sorry for your dogs.
My family goes to this little family owned vet office near us for our dogs and the two vets are a father and son duo, both of who are great at listening to what we say and are very helpful. Though most places aren't like that. We've had some not good experiences at other veterinary clinics as well.

The vet by my parents house sucks tbh. A couple years ago I had to take my cat there for a urinary infection, and before they had even finished the tests they charged me like $400 for special food (IN CASE it was a certain thing, they didn't even know yet) and for the antibiotics they didn't know if they were going to need to use.
Then just like 6 months ago my other cat couldn't use his back legs for a while so I took him in and it cost like $600 for the tests. The vet told me had had a sickness of some sort but didn't even tell me anything about the sickness nor did he offer any treatment or anything I could do for him.
Not all vets are bad but some just aren't good at all.
