belfast pride!! it was a lot of fun
i'm 17, and pretty happy with being a lesbian, but i'm also closeted around my family, and it's taken me a long time to be comfortable enough with my sexuality to be open about it, so i've never actually been to a pride parade before. it was fun nlg, we had a great day for it, the parade was the length of the town and i saw a lot of dogs! always a good sign.
there's this bakery called Ashers that was involved in a huge homophobic scandal last year, and it's right on the main street, Donegall Place, so the parade was marching past it all day. The owner was standing there just glaring, for like, six hours??? he must really hate the gays lol. people in the parade were shouting things at him but there wasn't any actual trouble because there were a lot of police about, and basically everyone was having too good a time to care?
there were a lot of police today, and they were very friendly, and approachable, and went out of their way to make sure we knew they weren't here to intimidate (NI politics hates the gays, so it's nice to see what the law enforcers don't agree), but they were also being super careful and checking everyone's bags. They must still be on high alert after the Manchester Bomb at the Ariana Grande concert.
the whole town stank of weed lmao, like, everywhere. this is the gay agenda.
I bought a cute wooden rainbow bracelet and a lesbian pride flag!!! and frankly??? best money I've ever spent?? i had to hide them when i came home, but it was so nice to walk around town and to just let everyone know that I was gay. Got some cute polaroids too.
such a sunny day, im so glad i went

Congratulations! That sounds like so much fun. I missed pride this time around, but I'm hoping to go next year.

That sounds awesome!! ^^
I've only been to one once (I snuck out of the house to attend) while I was dating my ex-girlfriend. But at the time I was still questioning myself/didn't really identify as bisexual yet/was moreso just going to be supportive to her since she was in the parade. so I'd like to go back to one someday, for myself. Possibly when I move for grad school, because I'll be close to Toronto, and they have a big one there!
