In the distant future, human technology has advanced to the point that robots are a large, irreplaceable part of everyday life. They range from manufacturing bots to military drones, to dental assistant bots. Most are equipped with near human intelligence or equivalent. As bots continued to be made and their AIs grew and learned, most bots became at least partially sentient. Humans treated bots as emotionless labor incapable of living their own lives. Tensions rose. A fringe group of rebel bots created the ultimate weapon. If humans relied on their technology so much, why not get rid of it? ![](http://imgur.com/nvNsbpU.png) No one really knows how the Disconnect works. Whether the rebel group uploaded a malware that destroyed everything it connected to from working, somehow affecting things it reasonably shouldn't have been able too, or whether it is due to advanced nanobots, no one is certain. What we do know is that our modern technology is useless. It's like electricity just stopped working, and technology couldn't communicate within itself. Even cars won't work, unless they're old enough to not be affected by whatever attacked. The less advanced something is, the more likely it is to work. Vintage radios, for example. Some settlements have managed to get power plants working again, and can power one or two buildings. But even then, nothing is reliable. And the bots stuck around. We don't know why they kept working, either. They still don't like us humans, understandably. Most won't kill, though. Most. Some are as vengeful as ever, and that goes for people too. You always have to be careful, because you never know how someone might react to the conflict. It's safest to stick to settlements. They're dotted around the land. There are a few major ones: ![](http://imgur.com/i3VZGsI.png) To the central south, Chopshop, a ruthless and warmongering bot, rules over a small though well-populated settlement of both humans and robots known simply as "The Shop." Here, only the strongest survive for long. They make most of their income from tearing vehicles and bots apart to build working cars and the like, so maybe the danger is worth it.
On the western coast, the majority human colony of Evergreen stretches from the north until the desert region to the south. It's actually more like many smaller settlements that have formed a coalition. The largest of these is located on a bay in the southern part of Evergreen, arguably the "capitol" of the coalition. Although they aren't the friendliest towards bots, you could do worse. Plus, there's still plenty of room in the smaller internal settlements. Evergreen is best known for, you guessed it, their lush forests and water supply.
The Tallgrass Republic, colloquially known as "the Prairies" or "the Plains" is thinly spread settlement in the Midwest, very peaceful and neutral. They farm, and everyone loves them for it. It's hard to argue against food. Both humans and bots live here.
Further to the north, Heartland sit on Lake Superior. They're best known for their fishing and boats, but they have a pretty strong black market too. If you're looking for bot parts, you might want to come here. And finally, in the north east, sits Northgate. It is the most advanced and heavily armed of the colonies, and a tough place to get into. They are very dedicated to keeping their people safe, bots and humans alike. Some people think they're crazy for searching for some way to fix the Disconnect, but hey, it's working for them so far. It's nestled in some safe land surrounded by various nuclear zones, with only one safe path. Just past this "wall" of radioactivity, many small settlements sit so as to reap some of the benefits of Northgate's success. Particularly, the hospital.
If you're looking to buy something, I'd suggest stocking up on batteries. Anything that can provide a little power is considered valuable. Bot parts are much rarer though they can also be traded for something nice. Our old currency doesn't have much use now, so you'll have to hope you have whatever a vendor is looking for, or learn to barter. ![](https://i.imgur.com/srkgRVz.png) It's been 54 years since the Disconnect. There's talk about Northgate finally booting up a supercomputer. Even if it only worked for a second or two, it's the most progress anyone has made. They think they can fix things. Who knows if it will ever really happen. But there's a story about something that might be able to help. Before everything hit the fan, a group of humans created fail-safe, something that would be able to infiltrate and reprogram anything. The intended to use it to make the bots destroy each other if war ever broke out. But with everyone who understood how it worked dead, only the AI in possession of it is left. Most people think it's just a legend. Even if something like that existed, it wouldn't work, same as everything else. But... the bots work, so why wouldn't an AI?

![](http://i.imgur.com/xfKZYxz.jpg) - Follow all forum rules, obviously. No swearing, keep things PG-13.
-Please try and be active. At least once a week is preferred, and notify me if you're going away or are going to be busy for a long period of time. Otherwise, you're up for deletion
-Be literate, please. No one-liners, no two-liners either. Give whoever you're replying to a reply with substance; if you don't really have a muse, that's understandable and totally fine, but it's pretty hard to reply to something short. 4 lines (not sentences) minimum is required for replies.
-This roleplay is LGBT+ friendly! Everyone is accepted
-No OP characters- This rule includes no godmodding/powerplaying and no mary-sus.
Although I will not restrict the amount of people who can join this, I call it a small group rp because we will be focusing on a small group of individuals traversing the remains of the U.S. One character has been given the fail-safe AI, which they have uploaded into a deactivated bot. With a sought after resource, the group must always keep moving if they want to stay safe. You can have a character who is not a part of the group, but I can't guarantee they will have much to do.
If you want to join, fill out the form below. If you have any plans for your character, such as how they got into the group, if they're already a part of it, or how they will become a part of it, please discuss with me! Honestly if you have any ideas at all, bring it up! Talk about it! I want everyone to have a part in what happens.
Name: Age: (if bot, their make or type) ID info: (a short physical description) Summary: (a short history) Notes: (a short personality description) Faceclaim or photo reference:(optional although for bots it could be very useful) ![](http://imgur.com/cLbadWi.jpg) Name: Falk, Conquest - aka "Connie" Age: 24 ID info: 6'2" with blue eyes, pale skin, long, red hair, and a strong, athletic build. Commonly wears a stetson and a red letterman jacket. She wields a shotgun and carries many knives. Summary: Connie was born in the Tallgrass Republic, where she learned many survival skills and made many connections throughout the continent. Her parents died when she was ten, giving her the failsafe AI on a drive. She left her settlement when she was 20 in an attempt to find some way to bring the AI online. Notes: She is a curious and kind person, though her time spent travelling has caused her to become significantly more violent. She can often be found going on impromptu rants on the things she is passionate about. Name: Brain enRiching Amusement for Minors - aka "BRAM" Type: Classroom bot ID info: A tall, lanky bot covered in a light grey silicone like material. Uses male pronouns. He has two light that protrude from the sides of his face, colored cyan and react according to his emotions. A black screen stretches across where eyes would be, displaying pixelated, animated eyes. Summary: Bram used to help teach children at an elementary school prior to the Disconnect. He was offline when it occurred and had been stuck in his school in a decaying city when Connie found him and reactivated him. Notes: Bram is programmed to be a very emotional and expressive bot, so as to better deal with children. He is also very protective, though ever patient. Others often confuse him for being dumb because he has always been expected to explain things in simple terms. Name: Automated Defense Algorithm - aka "Ada" Type: Scouting bot ID info: A small, beat up little bot that looks like they've been through a lot. Has a black screen for a face and two circle animated eyes. A bundle of wires trails from their head. Summary: Ada was created as the 'failsafe ai' to repair broken technology, but has spent much of their time in a sleep state without any sort of means of acting on their protocol until it was put into the body of a scouting bot. Notes: New to this world and what it has to offer, Ada is an incredibly curious thing trying to learn the ways of the new world and things they was never created to experience, such as autonomy. They try their best to contribute but know that the only good thing about them is their programming. Name: P4NN6-07 - aka "Pachi" Type: Guard bot ID info: A human sized bot built for taking hits, Pachi is made out of some pretty tough metal. He looks armored, but underneath all the faux-padding is some pretty insane weaponry that he can pop out in a moments notice. His screen-like face displays nothing but a mouth when he speaks, but occasionally blinks different colors to express emotion. Summary: Pachi was built to be the personal guard of a businessman that had a lot of money to keep track of. When the person he was meant to guard was lost in crossfire, Pachi really didn't know what to do with himself. He's spent his time wandering the country in search of things to fiercely guard with his life. Notes: Despite his make, Pachi is incredibly chipper and happy, ready to dive in and save whoever needs it. He's basically overflowing with aggressive optimism and really tries to cheer everyone up despite the horrible state of the world. He also enjoys giving things a good punch. Name: Ingram Age: 23 ID info: An average looking guy, he's lithe, maybe 5'7" in height, and fairly fit. He's olive-skinned with messy black hair and a silver streak along the top. Wears way too many layers at any given moment. Summary: Ingram grew up in a family of mechanics, people trying their best to salvage the technology that's been left behind. He lived in Northgate his whole life, but eventually left to hunt down tech and scraps he couldn't find back home. He wants to try and fix bots but their natural distrust of him due to being a human kind of crushes his dreams. Notes: Despite his knack for scavenging, he's a really trustowrthy guy. He's eager to please, but can be a little bit selfish when it comes to his personal interests. Doesn't like to fight much. Name: Elliot Nakamura Age: 19 ID info: Elliot is a very lean and lanky Japanese guy, 6'3" tall with a strong jaw, thin framed glasses and short black hair. Aside from his height, he doesn't seem to stand out much. Carries an old backpack with his tools and belongings. Summary: Elliot was born and raised in Northgate, and knows practically any kind of technology like the back of his hand. The kid could probably hack with his eyes closed; cultivated in the Northgate scramble of their rumored fix with a supercomputer, paired with his surprising intellect, Elliot is knowledgeable with programming bots and anything that can be hacked, he will hack. His parents left Northgate in search of the AI, never returned, and Elliot has now done the same after having nothing left for him in the settlement. Notes: Skittish, hyper and scared are the first three words that come to mind when one thinks of Elliot. The image of naivety, Elliot is an anxiety ridden teen, with ADHD that doesn't let him sit still or sleep or really function, but he seems particularly fond of electronics and computers that still function. He's stunningly smart, and it would show if he could focus for once second.
Name: "Chopshop" Type: auto-repair bot ID info: wip Summary: Chopshop used to work in a literal chop shop, helping criminals destroy vehicles to sell the parts. Mistreated here, he grew to hate humans. He now runs his own settlement with help from a small circle of close confidants. He is known to be heartless and kill bots and humans alike, often welding or hanging their parts on his body. Notes: wip ![](http://imgur.com/u82CucU.jpg)

The light patter of rain permeated the walls of the crappy little shack Connie and her small group had taken up residence for the night. Connie perched herself on the stoop of the small building, which she assumed was likely previously a house, though abandoned some time shortly after the Disconnect. She sighed softly, sticking her boot-clad feet out into the rain and watching the water pool off. This world could be so peaceful at times. Or maybe she was simply giddy. After all, years of searching and she finally found a contact who was in possession of a working, empty bot. And the AI had successfully loaded! And worked! Sure, it was basically a little kid, but it was better than nothing. The situated call for a little, if silent, celebration. Absently, the redhead wondered what time it was. They ought to be waking up and heading off soon.
