Well, European settlement of the former colony began with the Dutch in 1609 and what would become New York City was called New Amsterdam until the British got their hands on it in 1664 and named the settlement New York, after the Duke of York. After the American Revolution, NY was admitted as the eleventh state in the union on July 26, 1788. So, from Dutch settlement, it's about 410 years old, about 353 from British colonization, and about 209 since it became a state.

YES by all means, please go! (I might know your friend, maybe...) I went to the concert earlier this summer (after doing a combined program in upstate NY for several years) and it was completely indescribable. So much great music and all the people are so friendly and inspiring! Save

Have you ever been to Florida? If so, how does it differ from New York? I have, but only once and it was when I was like four or five, so I barely remember it. I'm think I found it to be more fun though, if only because my family took Disney World for my birthday.
