OOC Same.
I'm really sick of my style right now, at least for humans, but when I try to change it, it turns out horrible? So I'm just like...ugh.

man i wish i could suggest something. it's just a really slow process, but eventually i can say you'll find something you can work with and like. don't work yourself too hard though ! don't be afraid to take breaks and you can come back to your art w/ a fresh pair of eyes :^D

OOC True, it's just, I feel like my humans aren't very unique looking and I tend to draw them with their heads tilted slightly, plus they aren't very expressive, and I wanna change that but I'm not sure what I'd even change by style too.

i usually take a lot of inspiration from artists i like and drawing from life. for example: in terms of making more expressive characters, drawing various expressions and face shapes really helps. c: if you want i can recommend a very helpful site.
when i'm a rut, i basically just look at other works and experiment a ton

This is what I'm currently struggling with, unfortunately. I go through periods of time where I'm pretty confident in my style, and then there's always inevitably a few weeks or even a month where I feel like I can't draw anything. Right now I'm in one of those creative slumps, so to speak. It sucks.

At least it's consistent though, because I have a slump like this about every six months (sometimes more or less) and we're definitely due for another one.

i need to take my own advice but i think it's important to keep realism in mind... if you're struggling with stylistic stuff, just try to sketch from photos or real life and get the subject as close as you can to the original you also might find that if you speed up your referenced drawings, a sort of style inadvertently begins to show itself since you have less time to focus on details and exact appearances OOC Yeah but I don't actually like realism much. I draw in a cartoony style and so I don't want to draw realistically, if that makes sense. Plus I'm only having problems with drawing humans right now and I don't want to change my style to be more realistic.

I've been trying to draw some characters for the last 4 hours and I still haven't really made a breakthrough, haha. Guess I got my colored pencils out for nothing. I keep telling myself I'm going to actually color something one of these days but it's too much work rip

I actually second the realism thing, whether or not that's the kind of style you're aiming for in the end. it's important to remember that even cartoons are rooted in realism - you get a cartoony style by removing and simplifying elements of something realistic so they're not entirely seperate. you don't necessarily have to change your style, see it more as an exercise. even if you don't want to draw realistically, learning to do so will not only help you improve but it may teach you about your own style. as you start finding shortcuts, you'll find what works for you and what doesn't. I've found it to be a very natural way of finding a style that suits you. it's up to you whether or not you try it obviously, and it may not work for everyone but it was really helpful in my case at least
but to actually answer your question, yeah, all the time. it's super frustrating. like, I want to draw and objectively speaking I know I'm not doing any worse than usual but, like, every element of my art is getting on my nerves and I don't want to look at it any more. I think for me it's that I get so used to my art because I stare at it for hours on end that I think it's more default than it is. it isn't the same as everyone else's but I look at my own art more than I look at anyone else's so it feels like it is, if that makes sense?

that's fair i suppose o: i've heard many times that 'bad art is better than no art'... even if there's improvements to make, even if you don't like what you're creating, at least you're... creating something? which is sort of hard to really think about, but it can be helpful for some people. u are making something from nothing... blank paper/canvas/screen/whatever... like a deity

Basically. I just try random things out and mimic certain things I like from other styles.
An art speaker from my art class long ago said "all your teachers will show in your own art. You will see."

I draw in multiple styles, just try different ideas for draw certain things. How I usually create styles is I draw the anatomy of a human/animal in some way, I think about if I want the style to be sharp, smooth, realistic, etc, and I change what doesn't work.
