I lie under starlit sky And the seasons change in the blink of an eye I watch as the planets turn And the old stars die and the young stars burn
But I don't really know this place And it's lonesome here in a wide open space Can it be as real as it seems Maybe this time I won't wake from the dream - Lonesome Dreams, Lord Huron I found an excellent tutorial for painting night skies the other week, so I just had to give it a try. This scene takes place in the middle of the desert, and desert skies are nothing short of spectacular. This particular scene takes place about halfway through my story, with Jax (left) and Gjin (right) enjoying some quiet time after a long day of walking. Gjin is hopelessly naive, and has little understanding of the world, so when she's thrust into the world of gods and monsters, she is in way over her head, more so than she could ever realise, and she doesn't cope all too well. Jax, on the other hand, grew up in the desert, and is much more accustomed to the harsh lifestyle the characters are forced to live. He takes pity on her, and decides to comfort her - and perhaps give her a bit of advice.
This was drawn traditionally, then inked, scanned and coloured in photoshop elements using a Wacom intros tablet. All in all, it took about three hours.

This is cute. Do you mind posting a link to the tutorial? I wanna try it now.

Thanks! I love stars, and I've been wanting to learn how to paint a decent night sky for ages, so I'm very happy with how this turned out XD

I use a similar method of how I start my art, by doing it traditionally :3. Instead I use FireAlpaca instead of a tablet for the latter steps.
It looks nice and your style is very pretty by the way!

Nice. I can never get the lines right when I draw completely digitally - not to mention the fact that my traditional art is much better than my digital stuff - so I find it much easier to scan it.
Thank you!

Same here, except I take a picture with my I-Pad, download it to my computer and do it that way.

Huh, interesting. The camera quality on my iPad is terrible, so I could never do it that way

No, I use a laptop and FireAlpaca, why? I use FireAlpaca as well, but I find it surprising that you use a mouse or track pad instead of a tablet. With a tablet you're really just drawing on paper, but... Digitally.

(I've tried using my I-Pad before, but I dislike the feel.)

(I've tried using my I-Pad before, but I dislike the feel.) A drawing tablet is different from a literal tablet, like an ipad, though. You do pretty good without it though, so I applaud you.
