As WCRP's forum anniversary is coming up soon, we are looking to do a Fanatic Challenge like WCF did. Thing is, we have one problem; as mods, @sav and I don't know a lot / remember how Fanatic Challenges work. We'd like to ask for some "experts" on how the Fanatic Challenge is run, how it works, and what were used as prizes. Obviously, we'll possibly change up the prizes part, but we'd like to learn more about how it operates. Quick note: If you do have information, then that's great! Please post it, but do not ask to run the Fanatic Challenge. It will be staff only. Thanks for your help & cooperation!

I was never in one, but from what I can remember each question was a separate thread. It was about either Warriors, Seekers, or Survivors (if Survivors was even out by then) obviously. The first 10 people to post the correct answer received a special avatar.

The time for a question would be announced long in advance. In the first 3 years spelling did not matter, but in the 4th year, it started mattering from the Taqqiq question on (which I think was kind of mean but whatever).
Posting twice was not recommended; second answers would not be counted and had a chance to get you disqualified. Thus even chatting on the thread was discouraged.
Editing your post disqualified you because you couldn't prove you had actually gotten the answer when you first posted.
If you won a question, you could not win any more for the duration of that Challenge. (For example, if you won question 5, you could not win question 6 and on.)
As for the prize...they would take whatever avatar you were using at the time and add the year's symbol to the bottom right corner. I believe the first year was a yellow star, the second year was a yellow paw print, the third year was a red three-claw-mark-scratch, and the fourth year was the orange circle with a Clan symbol with a 10 in it (which I included in my avatar here).
The avatar with the symbol could not be changed. You could ask to have it removed, but it could never be given back. It replaced the rank, so you could still have a second regular changeable avatar beneath it. If you won multiple years the avatars would stack, oldest on top and newest just above the changeable one.

You're welcome. If I remember anything else I'll tell you.

In addition to what has already been said: - The Challenge usually ran from November to about February.
- They'd usually alternate which series the question was about each week - for instance Warriors the first week, Seekers the second, and I think Survivors the third (can't remember if that was out while they were still doing challenges), and Warriors again after that, and so on.
- They'd announce the question at the start of each week. The day of the week and time of day would vary drastically, so that people in all timezones and with different personal schedules would have a chance of having at least one week work for them.
- In addition to the avatar, one of the prizes was that the names of all the winners would scroll across the top of the main warriorcats.com for a while.
- They locked the thread and subforum after maybe 10-30 minutes had passed, because it got ridiculous when people were still posting their answer when the thread already had over a dozen pages (and if the thread individually wasn't locked, people would start posting again in it sometimes when the next question was posted).
- The subforum was locked when questions were not active. Usually replying would be turned on within seconds of it being posted, although there were occasions when they didn't turn it on properly and the question was up for minutes before they managed to turn replying on.

I was never a part of the WCF, but this seems like a great idea!

They also created a subforum for "Fanatic Challenge Winners" and the thread titles went like "Fanatic Challenge day/month/year" then the thread body was the question, correct answer, and screen names of the winners.

They also created a subforum for "Fanatic Challenge Winners" and the thread titles went like "Fanatic Challenge day/month/year" then the thread body was the question, correct answer, and screen names of the winners. Yep, that was what they used to load the text for the scrolling ticker at the top of warriorcats.com - the text in the ticker was directly the thread titles. In the first challenge I won, my name on warriorcats.com was cut off as "Dawnwin", so I brought that up to the mods and they explained to me that it comes from the thread titles and that they'd run out of characters for that; they managed to take out an extra space somewhere to fit the last letter of my name in.
