It's as official as I can make it on a cat forum without creating banners X3
I think the perception of time can differ, depending on the situation and for different people. Say, in something which happens quickly such as a car crash, people have reported time seeming to slow down as the event occurs, while others have said it all happened so suddenly that they didn't even realize the event which had actually transpired. However, I also think every person has their own baseline for how they perceive time. It has been studied in labs before how people can be told a time on a clock then perform an event or action and then almost be perfectly accurate on how many minutes had passed. But bottom line, I think time perception in any individual only changes based on an event that happens, but it does not change the baseline they have to naturally tell how many minutes or even hours or days have passed. It seems this only happens in relatively traumatic situations, or ones that get the adrenaline pumping.

cx true that
if I understand you correctly, I think I agree. say you're bored, right? time feels like it's passing slower but when you check the clock, you're usually expecting what you get. but then I know I'm not alone in looking up and seeing that more time has passed than expected from time to time. I'm not sure why this is, exactly, and I've got like no research at all to back this up (professional debating everyone) but I feel like that has more to do with being distracted than anything else. it's not so much that time feels like its going by faster, it's more like you don't notice it going by, if that makes sense? or maybe that's just me, idk. like I said, this is such a subjective thing, it's hard to really tell what's a universal experience and what's just how I work, personally.

hey, would you look at that!
and yeah, that's a good point cx unfortunate, really, that the first topic we choose has to be so easily resolved

Yeah, lol. Okay, here's a fun thing that gets debated about a lot. What do you think about Bigfoot?

okay, so. honestly, I feel like it's unlikely that he exists. vague humanoid shapes just don't convince me tbh. I feel like it's too easy to just see a large man or something and mix it up - after all, you see what you want and/or think you'll see. the same goes for first-hand accounts or similar. humans lie and our brains lie to us. we're just not trustworthy enough to prove theories like that. at the same time, I don't want to entirely dismiss the idea. I'm of the mindset that if it exists in theory, we should at least consider the possibility of it existing in practice, too. do I believe it exists? no. but I also cannot say for certain that it doesn't, which is a really bad answer, I know. if I had to take a hard stance, though, I'd be more comfortable saying no, he doesn't exist than yes, he does.

Now we got a debate!
I, for one, think that it does exist. I do agree that many people can lie and that our brains definitely lie to us. But I also like to keep open minded. I believe that the possibility of creatures that we fully don't understand yet can definitely exist in our world and reside in different places around us. Even though people do lie, there still some evidence to support the theory that a creature such as bigfoot could exist, such as casts of prints found in the forests - and I find it very unlikely that someone would take the time to make a fake foot, take it out to the woods, and press it in mud to either fool some random person who just so happens to pass by or to make a cast mold out of it. I just think it's way too much effort for very little pay off, in my opinion. Skeptics turned believers are also my favorite thing, because it really shows how a strong enough experience can change a person's whole view on the world. I just don't think a big man or random black shape in the woods that may or may not be there would do that to most skeptics. Plus, there are very remote areas of our forests even in the U.S. There are places we have never been in yet on land. So, there really could be a possibility that it exists out there, and we just have yet to find it. Heck, maybe somebody has actually found it for real but didn't tell because they knew it would be hunted if they told, and they didn't want to know it died at the hands of some money hungry hunter. But I also have to admit that I want it to be real, so I am a bit biased in this way, also.

I can see that, but here's the thing: I still haven't seen any definite proof. sceptics turn into believers in plenty of things, but that doesn't mean I have to follow their footsteps there - someone previously agianst vegetarianism turning vegetarian doesn't mean I have to do the same. and making footprints to scare people is exactly the kind of thing a bored teenager would do, if you ask me. the fact that the possibility is there given that not all of our forests are explored does not mean that it certainly exists. given the lack of proof, I can't say that it's real. of course, this goes the other way, too. I can't say for certain that it doesn't exist, so flat out saying no, it doesn't, is honestly a little uncomfortable to me. but, for the sake of debate, I'll stick to that hard stance.
it's kind of like the whole innocent until proven guilty thing for me, I think. if the choice is between yes and no, I'll go with no because saying yes and applying that same logic to all aspects of my life would bring chaos. am I from an alien planet and 73 thousand years old? I have no definite proof that I am not, therefore I am. is my skin rainbow coloured to foxes and one specific species of ant? I can't prove the contrary, so it must be. in that sense, staying sceptical until I know for sure - both here and in other instances - ensures that everything is nice and ordered. now, granted, the existence of bigfoot is a lot more believable than the rainbow skin thing. but the logic is the same and that's what it comes down to for me, I think.

I can understand your points. However, I can't say that it exists for sure, but that I'd lean more towards 'yes.' I get what you mean about a bored teenager, but they'd have to be bored for a pretty long time to make the fake foot first, and I don't really know how many people would even have the patience for such a thing, let alone a bored teen. Plus, the fact that the odds of someone coming across the print just seem too slim for me. I just think it wouldn't be worth the effort, but that's just me.
I get that skeptics exist and people don't have to turn believe because someone else does. I honestly would just like it to be real, really. I like the idea of a creature living in our woods who is intelligent and elusive. To me, that's just a neat thing. And I really can't discredit all the eyewitnesses and stories. But hey, even if it doesn't exist out there, it's still really fun to hear about.

that's all true, I see your point. still, I think this is a debate that comes down to what you want to believe, as is often the case with things like this where there's some but not enough evidence, or where it's mostly circumstantial. if I understand you correctly, though, it seems we both agree that nothing is certain, we just decide to lean towards different conclusions.

cx I'll start liking them if you want I'm just used to not doing that except to show agreement or whatever. people usually have to tell me they'd rather I do like things to actually get anything to happen
