Jake O'Malley . Male . Twenty-Five . Head Scientist's Son . Homosexual
Jake is an imposing sight, with a height of 6’3” that often forces people to look up at him. His face is very defined, with a pointed nose, strong jawline, and deep set, dark blue grey eyes. His hair is chestnut brown and loosely wavy, growing long enough on the top to fall into his eyes. He has a number of piercings, a industrial and ear lobe piercing on his left ear, and two helix piercings on his right ear. A long, jagged scar runs diagonally down his back, from his right shoulder blade to his lower left ribcage. His right arm has been replaced with a sleek model prostethic, capable of shooting beams of incinerating light from its palm. Several other weapons have been implanted into it. Often times Jake is seen wearing red plaid and jeans.
Jake is a double sided coin, even if one side shows more than the other. Outwardly, Jake is a lot of fun, and to be truthful, addictive to be around. He'll always have a trick or joke up his sleeve, and lives to see people laugh and have fun. He often puts others before himself, and truly cares for everyone who sees good in. He wants to help others in any way he can, even if it's something as simple as donating what little he has to the poor, or cracking a joke to relieve tension. Just as easily Jake can become dead serious and focused. When he sets his mind to something, he will stop at nothing to get it done. He is very empathetic to those around him, and it pains him to see someone in low spirits. He is very open minded to the needs of others, and can always listen when someone is having a rough time. On the flip side, Jake can be paranoid and insecure. Instead of sharing his feelings and seeking advice, he tries to bottle it all up. His paranoia can lead to indecision or hesitation in times of need, causing him to miss crucial moments. Jake tends to dwell on things that have gone wrong, and fears letting others down when they are dependent on him. He often works himself into the ground, or takes on too many responsibilities than he can handle. Jake has seen all the mutants come and go, watched them fail the tests and be.. disposed of. Planned to be the leader of the team of mutants, he lost his arm in a testing procedure. Immediately, he was tested on prototypes for a deadly prosthetic. He grew up learning to build magnificent and lethal creations, under the supervision of his father. He always believed that his destiny is set to crush the rebellion and bring home victory, but lately he's seeing more and more of the corruption surrounding Project Patchwork. He is barely allowed out, seeing as he is 'too valuable' to lose to a rebellion, but all he wants is to feel free again.

Felix Halloran . Male . 24 . Shifer . Bisexual
Not an especially formidable young man, Felix stands at five feet and eight inches, and frankly, what he slightly lacks in stature isn't really made up for by muscle either; he's a scrawny fellow with a rather angular body, and an olive skintone. He has high cheekbones and slightly sunken cheeks, a sharp jawline and a slight overbite. His deep-set almond shape eyes are a light, bright shade of brown which appears almost a muted sort of golden brown in the light, and above his eyes rest low, arching brows. Felix has fairly short, lightly side-swept hair, a brown deep and dark enough to usually appear simply black. His animal form, a Bengal tiger, is relatively reflective of his human one - on the scrawnier side, though, of course, far more imposing simply by principle - in this form, the lacking muscle and weight retract less from his physical power. He has fiery yellow-orange fur which fades towards the tail, marked by sharp, deep black stripes, and similarly black tipped ears and a short black tip to his twitching tail. Around the face, tail, and underbelly, the fur fades to a yellowish sort of off-white shade.
Aloof and cunning, yet with also a kind of skittishness or wariness about him, Felix is usually a quiet presence among others. Despite this seemingly distant attitude, the more anyone interacts with him, the more obvious it becomes how emotive he really is. Though he's unlikely to ever be confrontational about it, and keeps his feelings very internal to himself, he's sensitive and takes things personally - often too much so. On the flip side though, when he cares about somebody, even if he only shows it in subtle ways, he'll still feel it very genuinely. He does unto others what they do unto him, and feels kindness and favours should be returned, but also that and unkindness deserves the same in return, and Felix can certainly hold a grudge if that's what he thinks is deserved. Felix is observant and thoughtful, and typically serious, but even if he isn't one to joke around himself, that doesn't necessarily mean he's averse to a bit of humour and fun, he's just happier to sit at the side and watch. It took him a significant amount of time even for him to get used to the sensory changes that applied to his human form, and even longer when it came to the actual animal form. Enough time passed that it was almost assumed that the experiment had failed before he shifted the first time, and now the shifting power is still more of an instinctive reaction to stress or danger rather than an easy change that he can make at will, as it was through these ways that the scientists would force the shift. However, enough time has passed that he is at least accustomed to his new senses and using his newer form (although having a tail is still a strange feeling, that's for sure).

Kellan (Kell) Dimitri Parker . Male . 22 . Telekinetic . Bisexual
Kellan is a rather tall young man who stands at about 6'0" with a build of lean muscle. His height causes him to slouch on occasion when talking to someone much smaller than him. He has a strongly cut jawline and a straight roman nose with a small scar on the bridge from a break when he was twelve. Another scare can be seen faintly above his eyebrow in addition to various other scar tissue littering his body from experiments and small wounds. Kell has striking blue eyes, a pale icy color with long lashes accompanying them. His hair is often mussed from wind or sleep and has a slight curl or wave to it and he sometimes has to push part of it back from his forehead if it grows too long and gets into his way. He keeps it short with part of it pushed to the side off his forehead. His hair is a darker brown with an amber shine to it especially in the sun, it's something one might not notice with a quick glance, but is obvious when one takes the time to study his features. His resting expression can be intimidating, but if he flashes a somewhat rare smile it lights up his face in a soft way. His slightly crooked half smile is often displayed when he is teasing. He usually opts for a clean shave, but if he doesn't get the chance to maintain then stubble will grow. Overall he is an attractive young man who avoids drawing attention to himself especially by wearing neutral toned clothing.
Kellan is introverted, but can be social under the right circumstances and as long as he has time to himself to recharge. He first prefers to take in a situation and get to know the people around him silently, he is excellent at picking up on little cues and details. He is intelligent and a silent thinker and may receded in on himself if something is troubling him. While he enjoyed laughing and teasing with the others he is a horrible flirt and advances make him flushed and unnerved. He is rather easy going and understanding of others, but Kell is plagued by the abilities bestowed upon him by Project Patchwork and his inability to control them at times. This causes him to lash out on occasion and his temper has the potential to get out of hand, although the anger is usually directed entirely inward. He hates feeling out of control and with his abilities he feels with way all to often. However, that does not stop him from trying to protect the others. He is fiercely loyal to those he deems trustworthy and worth his friendship. In this case he feels it is his responsibility to protect them since so few of them have combat powers and his is so strong although somewhat unpredictable with dangerous side effects if he over exerts himself.
Kellan did not have a pleasant home life before Project Patchwork. He lived with his mother and father in a small beat up house on the south side of Chicago. His mother was ill often and his father had a drinking problem and a temper he usually took out on Kell. One time that has stuck with him, was when his father tossed him down the stairs when he realized Kell had been hiding pay checks to try and save up for college, the impact of his fall caused partial deafness in his left ear which is why he now has a small correctional device in his ear. He was forced to work three jobs to cover his personal costs in addition to provide for his family. When he was 16 the government approached his family with the project and all it took was a flash of cash for his mother and father to send him away, never to be seen again. Kell was with the institute for seven years and has spent much of his life enduring painful experiments and other trainings and tests. His powers are still relatively new, but the government feels when he gains control of them he will make an incredible weapon.

Andrea "Andi" Benson . Female . 23 . Super Soldier . Heterosexual
Andi is a fit and rather short girl. She stands at only 5'4, but appears to be pure muscle. Her skin is pale and marked up with scars. They aren't all over her body, just in random places. She has a scar down the back of her upper right arm from falling out of a tree. There's one on her jaw from a fight. Those are her biggest scars. There's a few smaller ones on her hands and feet. Her hair is dark brown, pulle dingo a ponytail to keep it out of her way. Andi's eyes are a striking blue.
Andi is complex. Her personality varies drastically depending on who you are and what she thinks of you. She's very wary of strangers, coming off as hostile and aggressive when she talks to them. She's always been unsure of strangers, but she's normally more shy. Only recently has it morphed from shyness to hostility. If Andi considers you an ally, or at least someone that won't hurt her, she relaxes. She becomes a lot more friendly and even cracks jokes. If she sees you as a friend, Andi is loyal. She'll do anything for those that have earned it. Her friends get to see the sweet side of her that's rarely shown in public. However, if you cross her, Andi has a thirst for revenge that never fades away. She takes all betrayals to heart, and will do anything to get revenge on those that deserve it. Overall, she's extremely tomboy-ish and competitive. She has a bit of a temper at times, and is extremely stubborn.
Though she was quiet, Andi was always one to defend herself. Maybe not vocally. After all, she never said anything to the kids that bullied her in high school, she just hit them, warning herself a well deserved detention. Andi's father was a cop and taught his kids how to use guns and fight to defend themselves at a young age. Andi was a black belt in tae kwon do. She's always been a physical fighter and has becomes more of a verbal fighter as well lately, so she was a natural fit for the super soldier position.

Oscar Liss . Male . 22 . Scout . Pansexual Appearance. Oscar is, overall, quite attractive. You could even say he's a fine specimen (for experimentation. Haha. Get it?) He's around average height, 5'11", and quite fit. Although, you don't just learn how to fly without getting seriously fit at least, in his upper back, shoulder, stomach muscles. He has little strength in his arms and legs, making for a poor fighter. He has light brown hair, which is usually only a couple inches long and swept back either manually or (upon his escape in the real world) with gel. He has thin eyebrows, and he sports a light beard. Well, it's more of stubble than enough to be considered a beard. He has soft blue eyes. These and his well-rounded face usually cause his to be considered "baby-like" despite his age and his usual demeanor. Though, the large 15' wings sprouting from his shoulder blades might also help with that. Long and brownish like his hair, these wings look like they were chopped right off a giant bald eagle and planted right on his back.
Personality. Oscar is easily described as a party animal. Well, as much as one can party when they're a puzzle piece in the government's evil plan. He not only loves to mess around, get into trouble, and be as social as possible, but he's also a huge flirt. He has had many a bruise just from flirting too much (read: trying to kiss) his guards. He's very charming and very easy-going, so flirting, or even just chatting on the rare occasion, comes naturally to him. However, that said, he is very independent. He doesn't really trust others to stick around long, so he rarely cares about people or becomes attached to them. In fact, he talks rarely about himself unless he's telling you how much he appreciates a [insert your gender] with [insert your hair color] hair and pretty eyes. With time and practice, he's become much better at controlling his wings. Usually, when he's relaxed, they act just like any other limb or like he was born with them. However, when he becomes frustrated, scared, or too focused on controlling them (which is unintuitive) he might describe them as feeling like an alien entity latched on his back.
History. Oscar was a regular kid when he signed up for the Patchwork People project. Not a while after that, he woke up with a burning pain in his back and, you guessed it, a new shiny pair of wings. It took a while for him to become accustomed to even walking with his wings, let alone for him to try flying with them. Over time, however, and with... encouragement, he did learn to lift himself off the ground. Although he would happily participate in the escape of his fellow Patchwork People, he doesn't trust Jake as far as he can throw him (which is like... he couldn't even lift Jake.)

Hunter Brennen . Male . 26 . Shaman . Heterosexual Hunter is a slim young man with a slight build. Standing at 5'10, he's neither overly short nor tall. His brown hair is a messy mop, and he usually makes no effort to tame it. Clear blue eyes hide behind a pair of glasses. He has limited use of his ring and pinky fingers on his left hand due to them being crushed during experimentation. Physically, Hunter is not a fighter. Although he knows the basic self defense skills required to survive in this world, he has neither the strength nor the endurance for physical brawls. Thankfully, due to his ability, there's no need for him to fight on the front lines, and allowing him to take up a supporting role for his teammates. Hunter is a contemplative, somewhat timid person. He is amicable and easy to be around due to his diplomatic personality. He is often considered an open book as he is not too guarded about his own past and is quite willing to share with a curious friend. Due to this, it is easy to mistake him to be soft, or naive. Underlying his friendly candor is a stark and raw will to survive, no matter what it takes. Accompanying this is great trust and value on those he considers his friends. Due to his physical shortcomings, Hunter is dependent on his friends to keep him from harm. In return, he does his best to heal them of their injuries. He is exceedingly loyal, and this shows in his abilities. One thing that he hides from even his friends is a downside to his ability. Although he has the capability to heal pretty much any injury or illness, the effects of that injury are transferred to him. Although minor injuries have no lasting effects on him, healing anything serious weakens him internally. Despite this, Hunter continues to heal anything asked of him, in spite of the fact that his body is slowly weakening from this. Prior to the government's collapse, Hunter was an aspiring medical school student. He had always wanted to be a doctor, and to help people who couldn't help themselves. With the government's fall, Hunter looked to the place where he felt his skills could most widely be utilized, and thus signed up for the Patchwork Project. Little did he know that it wasn't his medical skills that he would be making use of. He woke up on the operating table, sick to the stomach with deep cuts all over his body that seemed to have been left there on purpose. Something told him that he was being tested, like many before him. Slowly, he reached forward to touch a cut, and watched as as muscle and tissue began to regenerate before his eyes, the cut sealing up as if it were never there. { ~Skyblaze~ }

Jasmine Talbot . Female . 19 . Invisibility . Heterosexual Jasmine hardly reaches most people's shoulder at only 5'5 and weighs in at 120lbs. For her size, that's around average, and she owes most of that to her strict athletic regimen that keeps most of her weight in muscle. She's always been a workout nut and due to the dystopsia-esque world she lives in, keeping in shape has never been more important. Her hair is a dirty blond, and for the longest time she kept it long --about to the middle of her back-- and slightly wavy, but after having a wanted poster put up for her involvement with The Surge, she's been forced to cut it to a pixie cut and bleach it, turning her hair from it's natural dirty brown-blonde to almost white. The roots are dyed electric blue. She has light brown eyes. For physique, Jasmine is more of a marathoner than a sprinter. She can't go too fast, but has worked herself so she can travel long distances in a jog or slow run without the need for too many breaks in between, although she'll have to eat lots of calories to make up for it. Jasmine is a quiet individual. Not because she's shy, but because that's how she was raised to be. She's been with rebellions against the government for as long as she can remember, and it's been ingrained in her that speaking out or drawing attention to oneself is the quickest way to be killed. She's been with the same small group of people for most her life, and so loves talking to others and learning new things about them, as that's a new curiosity for her. Hence why she's offered to be an envoy for the Surge to other rebellion groups. She's confident in who she is, and will answer any question posed about herself without hesitation; there aren't many things about Jasmine that one will find a secret once you get to know her. However she tends to be awkward in romances, as being from a small organization raised with few people her age, she has never had any serious relationships and doesn't know what to expect from them. As for her invisibility, Jasmine has just recently become part of Project Patchwork. Motivated to better help her family and the Surge gather information and driven by the excitement and adventure being a mutant gives, Jasmine is working hard to understand the limitations and perks to her new power, although she is far from perfect using it. She finds her invisibility is most easily accessed when she's in danger, frightened, or embarrassed, but is most difficult to call upon when she's angry, excited or emotionless. Jasmine was born second in her family, with an older brother(Johnathan:25) and a younger sister (Jessica:13). Her parents fled just before Jessica was born, finding a small group of other political refugees that had once been Trevor's(father) and Vanessa's(mother) coworkers and friends. There were four families in this initial group and they worked together in order to stay under the radar and alive. Shortly after they settled in, Jessica was born. Jasmine was raised in this small group of what she considered family. Her parent's coworkers were aunts and uncles, and their kids were her siblings or, at the least, cousins. A few other families joined their group, but it remained small comparatively to the other underground resistance groups that had soon formed after the war. They began as just trying to stay alive, but slowly began small acts of resistance against the new tyranny. During the last two years, their small family group found it harder and harder to keep themselves fed and safe, and after a raid were forced to join into Surge, a larger organization that had been trying to recruit them for some time. It was then that Jasmine was able to finally able to convince her parents to let her help and she began running errands for the Surge. It was then she who first infiltrated the Patchwork Project for Surge, and is working to convince Patchwork to join the rebellion. { Brownie } I keep trying to keep away but this is the third time I'm making a form sooooooo maybe it's meant to be also he's supposed to be on a mission, so if there's any details of that plotwise that I should know before anything starts feel free to pm me Edit 1: changed bases to make more sense with the Spy's backstory and role WIP

Torrian Marin . Male . 21 . Messenger . The VoidTM
What a creature! He doesn't stand imposingly tall, at about a right 5'8", but what sturdy frame he does have is lean, well-muscled, filled out in all the right places to get him in and out of situations- literally. Really, a masculine, muscled figure that girls often swooned after and men found jealousy over. Sometimes his broad shoulders are hunched inwards to pair with his easy grin, mirthful eyes, and sometimes they are set back to display his own intimidating aura, jaw sharp and eyes set cold. His skin is of sun kissed tan, a lovely golden shade rich. For the sake of practicality, he keeps his naturally sultry, dark black-brown hair relatively short, but long enough to be kept swept back in a handful, in any way he can. Sometimes he sports bandanas of all colors, other times odd little clips, a pair of glasses, or simply by the magnetic force of gel. However, he has a habit of changing hair color frequently, ranging anything from blonde, pink, red, brown, and black. With high cheekbones, full doll-like lips, and expressive, clear hazel-green eyes, strong, defined jaw and accentuating features, he can make himself appear as all different kinds of personas, all different kinds of ages, with his malleable expressions and drawling voice ranging from sweet highness to raspy. Just like his hair and overall self, his clothing style changes to fit whatever it needs to be. You need a black "power suit"? Fine, he'll even walk down the hall in some dashing 3 inch, bright red heels. You need a scrappy kid? Sure, he'll wear a superhero t-shirt with a white puff jacket, hair clips everywhere, smudges of dirt on his cheeks. You need a masculine bartender? He'll whip out his crisp white ironed-shirt, ruffle up his hair and his eyes with a little makeup, slap on that pinstripe vest and dark pants, and you've got yourself a winner. But, just himself? His preferred style is simple shirts, tucked into whatever pair of light wash ripped jeans he can find, mesh-net seen across his skin between the rips, the jeans have its cuffs trapped in his black boots- and he is almost never seen without his beloved black leather jacket, studs silver. He enjoys wearing eyewear, so gold circle-glasses, women's leopard shades, dark men's sunglasses, and many others are all frequent to his attire. He likes wearing eye makeup, so any skin-safe jewels he can find are often found glued to his eyelids, the arch of his brows, edges of his eyes. When he walks, his feet splay like a duck, and his fingers are quick to become cold and make clicking noises if he teleports too much, which makes him a perfect buddy for summer heat.
Going along with his overall style, Torrian can be anything you want him to be. You need a teasing, snarky kid? He can do that. You need a cold, aloof, eloquent man in a suit at the corner of the bar, looking like he does and doesn't belong at the same time? He can do that too. The heartbreaker, the funny, the leader, the gentle, the sweet, the lone wolf, he can be anything someone wants him to be. Alas, just because he is a master of chameleon, doesn't mean he doesnt have his own personality. Just himself goes a little something like this. For one, he is incredibly passionate about whatever it is he sets his mind to, whether it be getting a job done, or making someone smile. Because he does love a good joke, as he sees life in a sort of pessimistic, realistic, "We're all going to die but let's have a good time before that happens", sort of way. He is very aware of himself, not surprisingly very good at understanding and accepting his emotions and feelings instead of running away from them or pushing them down. Instead, he channels them- and he would much rather talk it out than punch it out. One can definitely say he is an independent person, preferring to do this his way- but, he understands hierarchy, and he can handle being ordered by others. While he likes solving dangerous or risky situations, he doesn't prefer to put other people in danger over it, and much rather wants just himself to do something like that, hence why he is so good at being a messenger. Protective and loyal to those he believes deserve it, he makes for a solid friend. Self-confident, but lacking any real arrogance, he is self-assured on the outside, and inwardly reflective. Nothing passes by his eye without his notice. Alas, despite all this, he has quite the temper on him. While he isn't easily riled, when he is, he can be anywhere from hot anger to cold ice, and he is going to make you know it. For all his passion, it also means he is stubborn, likes his way, and is very attached to his own morals and way of life. If someone challenges it, or does something in a way he doesn't agree in, he won't hold back some hard words. However, being so well-in-control of himself, his different personas he can be, he is also often very difficult to read. Is he joking with you, or is he sincere? It is enough to sometimes have people who don't know him very well to be wary of him, of what he could do. Although those who have known him for long can begin to tell when he is being true, it is still quite difficult to gauge. For his observance and his temper make him dangerous if he becomes vengeful. While Torrian Marin is not openly aggressive and wants other people hurt, Torrian the Messenger with his teleportation makes it easy to find the wife of the sly business man who cheated millions of people out of their hard-earned money, serenely, calmly telling the panicked man on the other end of the phone line to return the dollar bills to their rightful owners, lest he return home to find a dead woman. He knows when a job is a job, making him perfect for ransom exchanges, etc. He feels both detached and very aware of this side of himself, which means he can be a bit melodramatic and flustered when faced with it. Although he is very respectful and polite regarding the personal space of others, you have to tell him- otherwise you might find him lounging in your bed, hanging upside down in your closet critiquing your wardrobe, stealing your cat for a few days, and all sorts of mirth. It can be quite annoying.
Torrian Marin was your regular boy- well, as regular as he could be. Honestly, once the Patchwork Project began, the only difference they made on him was his now ability to teleport. He thought it was pretty cool, and also a little scary. He used to get headaches so bad after a teleportation he would almost be unconscious, and he felt so disassociated from his own body he had to look at his hands for 3 minutes to figure out they were, indeed, his own hands. He was shotty at best in the beginning, but constant practice means the only side-effect now is the buzzing in his forehead, and scaring the daylights out of anyone he teleported near to, as there is no warning of his coming until, suddenly, a blink and there he is. It makes him very good for surprises, and those who don't know him sometimes believe him to have invisibility as well, for he looks like he's been standing there the whole time. Now, that time he popped into a woman's bathtub with her in it... well, the Patchwork Project doesnt need to know that wasn't an accident. He still can become slightly dissociative from his body at times, or detached from what is going on around him and be left open to attack, if he doesn't take necessary self-care steps after a teleportation. Although he doesn't need to do that and just go straight into the action, he is often noticeably distracted and distant, fading in and out of conscious thought and zoning out into space. Teleportation in general makes him physically and mentally tired, and his extremities such as his fingers and toes get cold and stiff if he teleports too frequently. Over time, he has begun to much more easily meld into situations. As a messenger, he has to meet with many people, some more dangerous than others, and lowering the guards of others to make deals is his specialty. Regarding his family, he doesn't seem too concerned about it. What one can know: he had a mother, a father, and a younger sister. No one knows what happened to them considering Torrian doesn't divulge much information on them, although it is acknowledged that his mother is definitely still alive. It is a generally accepted theory that he does use his teleportation to visit them when he can. While he appears to be interested in the cause of the Patchwork People, is he really? Who knows, honestly.

Julian Noel Andreasen . Male . 22 . Shaman . Bisexual
Let’s not forget the fact that Julian’s height — 5’5” — makes him one easy target to tease, though most individuals tend to think twice before mentioning that aspect of him to his face. So tread around him lightly before you call him “little fairy,” or be prepared to run for your life. That is, unless you’re that one person he must grudgingly accept because he knows you’ll continue to refer him by a variety of creative nicknames no matter what he does. In which case, he’ll most likely shoot a withering glare (or simply chuck a book he’s been reading) in your direction. With a deceptively youthful face and slender — almost gentle — features, Julian is a man who possesses smooth skin and a fair complexion. In fact, one could say that he’s quite striking with his soft, tousled inky black locks that messily curl against his throat and hang over his mischievous, oftentimes slightly devious, hazel eyes. Despite how sharp those hazel orbs of his can be depending on the circumstance, there’s also a contemplative and warm light that resides within them as well. The air around this savvy young man may be described as dauntless, and it’s his demeanour that makes him look taller than he actually is from a distance. For that reason, most individuals are more than pleasantly amused or startled to discover that he’s actually, really, really short.
Julian is the opposite of everything you’d expect him to be, from his height to his ability and even to his personality. The image of a delicate healer holds a stark contrast from this vivacious man who is sharp-tongued, somewhat quick-tempered, and indifferent on the surface, not to mention deliberately insensitive with his coarse words. The reason? It acts a force to drive others away. Well, it does most of the time, anyway. The only problem is that once someone is able to see past the wall he’s set up for himself, his intentions, thoughts, and hopes are able to be read like an open book. That, and he’s extremely easy to embarrass, as he tends to be curiously gullible to some extent. Behind his imposing mask, Julian is perhaps one of the most forgiving, unselfish, and loving individuals. As a listener, while he can be hot-tempered at times, his patience not only acts as a means of support for those who need to rant, but also as an instrument for analysing situations without jumping to rash conclusions, unless a pressing plight demands otherwise. On top of that, while it may not seem like it, Julian is an idealist who looks out for the small hints of good in the worst situations. “You can’t be bitter and expect your life to be sweet,” as he’d say with a slightly crooked smile. So, with all this in mind, it isn’t peculiar to say that it’s Julian’s strong sense of loyalty and empathy that will most likely get him killed in the end. Aside from fearing the notion of failure, restriction, and being forgotten, what Julian fears the most is coming to care for someone too much and losing them, just like what had happened to his now-passed lover.
Perhaps it was his father, a hardworking and caring doctor, who influenced Julian to discreetly, yet passionately care about lives (mosquitoes are his only exception). That belief of his only grew when all chaos broke loose, hence his involvement in the Patchwork Project. His ability to heal, while it may sound convenient, is strictly limited to those other than himself (which was discovered through some “practice tests”). In fact, the pain that others feel when they’re mortally wounded are the same things he feels after he heals them back to their normal state. If an individual has a scratch across their cheek and he heals this, after some time, he’ll feel the same sting on his own. If an individual has a gaping wound in their abdomen, sometime later, he’ll feel the exact same agony. Aside from feeling drained (he may be a little more cranky during this time), the main aftereffect of his ability may emerge a minute later or even the next morning, and it doesn’t have a predictable set pattern. All Julian knows is that the experience isn’t all that very pleasant, and it’s an ability that cannot be recklessly used unless he wishes to destroy himself.{ carmine. }
